7-Eleven said Friday that it has tested drone delivery from one of its Reno, Nevada stores with Flirtey, an independent drone delivery service. The companies said their joint test was the first time a U.S. customer has received a package to their home via drone.

Irving-based 7-Eleven is calling it an historic milestone, beating Amazon.com to the punch. Flirtey has worked with NASA, the University of Nevada, The New Jersey Test Site and Virginia Tech to create the technology and logistics systems for a mass-market drone delivery network.

Two deliveries were completed on July 11.

The purchases included hot and cold food items:   Slurpee® drinks, a chicken sandwich, donuts, hot coffee and candy.
