Yesterday, I was at Wallkill and Warwick. And it wasn't what you might be thinking. It was to take the grandkids (ages 3 & 6) apple picking. When my own children were young, this was an easy thing to do. Load everyone in a car; drive at least 30 miles outside NYC; watch for signs; take your pick of places; end it with a simple hay-ride, and then take home your pick of apples. Now many of the farms that manage these things only take reservations for picking. They charge $40 for a half-bushel. The have expensive vendor stands creating a makeshift food court, a gift shop, a donut shop, a cider shop. The one we ended up at yesterday had about 500 cars when we arrived (and…

October 19, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) — Pope Francis called religious proselytism “poison” during a meeting with Lutheran pilgrims in the Vatican’s Paul VI Hall last week. The audience took place before the Pope’s trip to Lund, Sweden, for a commemoration of the Protestant Reformation 500 years ago. The meeting will also celebrate 50 years of official ecumenical dialogue between Catholics and Lutherans. In the Holy Father’s speech to pilgrims he expressed gratitude for the initiative of the ecumenical pilgrimage that made its start in Germany and ended in Rome. He emphasized Baptism as the unifying basis for dialogue between the two Christian confessions and expressed…

The Jones Act strikes again! Simply: if you are shipping something on a boat from one US port to another, it has to be on a US-made boat, staffed by US sailors, and flying under the US flag. For tax, labor, and industrial policy reasons all three of these are extremely rare by themselves and nearly impossible all together. It is far more advantageous for Texas to export oil abroad, and California to import from Saudi Arabia, then to send a boat from Houston to Long Beach. https://www.reuters.com/markets/commodities/oil-companies-work-around-jones-act-supply-us-fuel-markets-2022-08-18/

Yet amid all the economic doom & gloom, the world economy is still projected to grow about 2.5% this year, even amid junk bonds and debt bubbles devastating countless individuals. Is this calculation just some illusion generated by sky-high inflation rates and widespread currency devaluation?

via TheWorldNewsOrg If the global economy enters a new economic crisis it may lead to epic debt defaults, according to trade economists at the United Nations. “As capital begins to flow out, there is now a real danger of entering a third phase of the financial crisis which began in the United States housing market in late 2007 before spreading to the European sovereign bond market,” the annual report of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). Following the 2008-2009 crisis, developing countries faced a huge influx of cheap credit. The process was heated by quantitative easing programs in the developed nations. “Alarm bells have been ringin…

The United States (and much of the rest of the world) is in the grips of a full-blown mental health crisis, says this post and its many comments explaining why. Sometimes society seems so gaslit that any little spark could set us off. Go outside and take a long Doombreak if you need one; Collapse isn't going anywhere, except down.

The world’s richest man, Elon Musk changed his mind—again—and will be buying Twitter after all. The deal is now expected to close next Wednesday. If you think a billionaire 007 villain (?)—who’s getting involved in international affairs—taking over one of the world’s largest consent-manufacturing factories doesn’t pertain to Collapse, consider looking into the medieval history of the papacy, or the modern CIA/CCP.

Eyes are on South Asia (India, Pakistan, Nepal, Tibet, Bangladesh), where melting Himalayan glaciers will threaten the region’s water supply over the coming decades. It will also contribute to landslides, flash flooding, forced displacement, and probably water wars. These ancient glaciers can only melt once.

A Mexican mayor was shot & killed by gangsters along with 17 others in southwest Mexico. This is the “logic” of insurgency; taking out supposed collaborators to send a message. The government is not improving the situation. Situations like this have led to the collapse of Burkina Faso, Mali, Haiti, etc.
