JWs have always had and will continue to have, as can be seen from everything, problems to harmonize the so-called "biblical principles", "lists of rules" and "bible-trained conscience". Basically, it turns out that it's best for JWs "to stick" to what GB says, because that way they won't "make mistakes" and won't "stumble" anyone. lol

I pay $20 a month to OpenAI to play with their 4.0+ version of ChatGPT. It's not really an expense because I still do some remote consulting for a tech company in Ohio. Today, I decided to try out its ability to draw pictures on demand. I wanted a picture of a man about to curse because he just hit his thumb with a hammer, and I want his wife, to put her fingers in the "ears" of their pet parrot, so that the parrot doesn't pick up any bad words to repeat. So here goes: Prompt: I need a New Yorker style cartoon containing man hammering a nail in the wall and accidentally hitting his thumb. At the same time a woman, presumably his wife, is standing nex…

I've known young people who committed suicide after being shunned/disfellowshipped. I was one of those who tried to kill himself after being disassociated several years ago. I've talked with dozens of young disfellowshipped ones. In the past 30 years I've talked with parents of children who committed suicide due to being disfellowshipped. I wanted to share this.... How are they going to address the parents of young people that committed suicide after being disfellowshipped or marked? IMO the parent should sue the governing body for emotional manipulation and emotional distress for forcing them to cut off their own children, even grown children. That includes c…

I was just about to engage in a productive debate until I saw this "ad hominem" comment about sock puppets. Maybe this is better suited within your group in the closed club. So, I'm out! I would start with the creative designation of the Watchtower 4026 with that of Thiele, 4004, and have individuals take it from that point of view. Good Luck!

In this topic, I'd like to see how much we can learn about Bible timeline as it relates to Jewish history and what we know about Egypt, Assyria, and Babylon. But let's see how far we can get using only references from the Bible and from archaeology. And only from NON-ASTRONOMY-RELATED archaeology. Therefore, there will be no BCE dates argued or discussed. We already have other topics for that. Also, I'll try to keep myself more organized, and keep the topic more organized. To that end, here are the proposed guidelines: Unrelated comments get moved to a subtopic (to be created and linked). Comments are to be strictly on the topic of Bible-related timelin…

BTK, are you suggesting that 568 BC is an invalid date? We can make good use of VAT 4956 since the 37th year of Nebuchadnezzar can be found in other historical content, not just that insignificant astronomical tablet. Apostates often misuse that date to support the claim of 587 BC, but let's explore its true significance. The 13 lunar readings are indicative of the commencement of specific kings' reigns. Some historians mention the starting reign of King Waphres in 589/8 BC, and he died in 568/7 BC. By considering secular history alone, we discover that after Nebuchadnezzar's growing disappointment with the kings of Judah, the temple was burned down in 588 BC. If we …

What is the biblical basis for the existence of the status called "unbaptized publisher"? This is how it is explained in the JW cartoon. Of course, some elements in this interpretation are outdated doctrine that is no longer valid. If we exclude the "small unimportant detail" that "hours no longer count", the question still remains: Did Jesus become an "unbaptized preacher at the age of 12"? And if so, how? Key words in this video are: license, approved, elders, desire to be JW = unbaptized publisher. Are those words in Bible, too? pk_E_048_r720P.mp4

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/bc-jehovahs-witness-privacy-battle-1.7079252 The B.C. Supreme Court has ruled against two congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses that tried to argue their religious freedoms were infringed when the information and privacy commissioner ordered them to turn over records containing personal information about two former members. On Monday, Justice Steven Wilson upheld an order requiring the Coldstream and Grand Forks congregations to disclose records concerning the ex-members' breaks with the church to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC). The Jehovah's Witnesses had argued that the s…

Imagine a time when people no longer treat one another like animals. I know, it’s hard to fathom. After all, religion herself is the cause for many wars, causing strife and hatred that permeates mankind, but not for much longer. These manifestations will soon reveal themselves all over the world and is also known as the revealing of the Son of Man. This phase is the third and final phase known as the revelation phase of the Presence of Christ. One would think that all of mankind would welcome such a wonderful environment but the majority of earth’s inhabitants will actually reject and fight against this revelation tooth and nail, for mankind’s inhabitants as a whole …

So, GB and their supporters/Helpers take care that even the smallest donation of a poor sister or brother is not taxed by the state. Truly, wonderful JWs brothers/elders who care for the needs of the flock. If soft and persistent language does not help in persuading government officials to get a lower tax or a complete tax exemption, then GB advises the last measure, which is to ... sue them, all of them. lol

AlanF commented quite often on this forum when he was alive. He and @scholar JW had a history going back for many years —decades—according to scholar JW. Same with Ann O’maly whom scholar JW also appeared to have communicated with for many past years. I hated AlanF’s position on evolution and complete dismissal of much of Genesis but I appreciated that both he and Ann O’maly were much more knowledgeable about neo-Babylonian chronology that I am. By a long shot. They both corrected me publicly with good evidence on several mistakes I made here while learning the topic. I always appreciate corrections by anyone, even a "public reproof."

There is NO Bible evidence for 539 BCE. There is NO Bible evidence for 587 BCE. There is NO Bible evidence for 607 BCE. I think most of us understand that by now. So, I propose this new thread/topic where we shift the focus almost exclusively to the basic, fundamental question about the strength of the secular evidence in the Neo-Babylonian period. Why do we rely on it? Why does the WTS rely on secular Babylonian astronomer's evidence for Cyrus in 539? Why does the WTS reject the same evidence for Nebuchadnezzar's 18th year? Is the evidence for Nebuchadnezzar's years actually 10 times better than for Cyrus? When that question is solved, it also resolves the ent…

JWs insist, for a very long time, on being treated as "clergy" before the courts. Or in a some wider context known only to WTJWorg' "creators of future". Reference has already been made in previous CSA cases to the Catholic clergy, and their (JWs) status as a clergy inside JWs Congregations. "Catholic type of confession" is in a form in which one priest and one person who "confesses his sin" have a special relationship. Of course, this is nothing like the JWs elders who examine the "sinner" in a three-member commission ( Judicial Committee) and determine the "guilt or innocence" of the sinner. As far as can be seen, the purpose of the "Catholic confession"…

(Quora question) Besides being a significant source for literacy in lands where it is poor, they are well known for disaster relief, prompting taking care of their own, in catastrophic times. They thus provide a good example for other groups to follow, for there is no reason that anyone cannot do as they do. In recent years, some critics have attempted to spin this exercise of brotherly love as a lack of concern for anyone else. They do this even though they themselves would—say, in the event of an earthquake—check on family members first, never dreaming that anyone would frame that as indifference to the suffering of ot…

Lots of threads on chronolgy here. Why should I weigh in? All it would do is rain on someone’s parade. If it is of an interest I don’t give two hoots about—well, there are plenty of things interesting to me that others don’t give two hoots about. ‘Let it be. Let it be. Whisper words of wisdom. Let it be.’ But, what about those words of wisdom, Tommy? What are they? How come you don’t care about what everyone else here does? How come whenever the topic comes up, you join Pudgy in picking off fleas off yourself? Because it seems analogous to someone finding a document in the engine room of the Titanic to the effect that the ship is not going down in the next 20 mi…

Q: How much credit do PIMO Jehovah’s Witnesses owe to Zoom for freeing them from attending boring meetings at the Kingdom Hall? Probably quite a bit, though simply fading would accomplish the same goal, minus the certain element of hypocrisy. Fading works fine for those who wish to leave. As long as one doesn’t go publicly reviling, robbing banks, or killing people, one is fine. A consistent blackened screen without any participation always suggests to me PIMO as a possibility, save for obvious cases of infirmity, distance, hardship, etc. Nor is anyone fooled in the long run. Witnesses bond so readily with their fellow believers, even from around the world, beca…

If anyone wishes to participate, I'd like to have a more serious discussion about the 20-year adjustment to the standard Neo-Babylonian chronology. There may be several posts already made by @George88 and @scholar JW that are more related to this topic than @xero's topic about the Fall of Nineveh where several of them were, before being moved here. If anyone wants to participate they are welcome of course, and if anyone wants to continue some of the related and unrelated topics back on xero's thread, that's fine too. Unrelated topics here can even be moved over there if that seems OK.

I get relative measurements w/regard to regnal years and the like as that will allow you shift right or left, but no matter where I look, I get bloviating when it comes to how this exact date was decided upon. I need to know what they used as a starting point. I haven't found any astronomical events used, I'm not taking anyone's word for it, or "Experts agree". I need to see the argument in the form of premise, premise, conclusion. I want all the connecting dots, not an inky wash of academic bloviance.

This story is about a fairly unknown R&D engineer at a Japanese company. So naturally, I'll start off by somehow making this about myself. Just kidding. I'll make it about my father. Just kidding . . .well, almost. From 1964 to 1984 my father ran a couple of electronics labs for the University of Missouri. This was great fun for him and even more fun for me and my brother. The world was transferring from tubes to transistors, and my father invented a "semiconductor curve tracer" onto a simple oscilloscope screen that made testing transistors as easy or even easier than the old ways of testing vacuum tubes. The University got a patent for it. And from …

Father Guido Sarducci on SNL had a skit called "Find the Pope in the Pizza." A woman sold her actual slice of pizza with an apparent image scorched onto the back for $28,000 on eBay. There have been similar occurrences with Jesus' face on a slice of toast, for example. https://birdinflight.com/en/world/20160525-litso-boga.html Well I had my own very similar experience today, when I sliced a pear in half.

It is all about money, firstly. JW Ben Elder presentation: He says "I've been one of the JWs probably longer than I can remember". Here, WTJWorg himself refuted the claims that are being made in this court in Oslo, that children are not baptized, but only "adult children". lol He is the Director of an office called "Freedom of Worship" based in Germany. In conjunction with that is his role as the EAJW Representative (European Association of Jehovah's Witnesses). When asked by the Judge what his professional background is, he answers with the words that he is the Office Director and Office Manager. The judge actually asks him about his educational bac…

Serving [tacos] where the need is greater. My parents moved our family of 5 from California to Missouri to "serve where the need was greater" in 1964. The first things we missed were the leeks and onions and garlic of Egypt (Num 11:4-6). I mean, of course, the tacos of California. Rather than risk turning into a pillar of sodium chloride by longing for the past, we did just fine with Missouri cuisine. And driving back to California once a year over the summer. Even though in a fairly large University of Missouri township, no local stores within 100 miles sold tortillas in 1964. By 1966, my father went to the town Kroger's and guaranteed the purchase of 2 dozen packs …

In the "basement video" you will notice how the doctrine regarding the "Great Tribulation" is Outdated. Kevin, from the drama, left the JWs just few minutes before GT, but that doesn't mean he won't "survive" Armageddon. That's what they "promised" now in "new clarification", at least.

PM Harold Wilson, UK and JWs. Anyone know if this headline was to be taken literally? Satire?

I am not trying to sell an item on eBay. This item has been listed up there for quite some time, and the seller is in the UK. I was only wondering if anyone knew why the reference to JWs was on the cover. Did he actually say something like what's on the cover? https://www.ebay.com/itm/155110296118 The description. says: The front cover features Harold Wilson - Wislon Joins Jehovah’s Witnesses. Wilson is saying: “I cannot be a Christian and Prime Minister". Note that they spelled Jehovah's Witnesses correctly, but not Wilson. The Awake! mentions him a couple of times: *** g74 8/8 p. 30 Watching the World *** Church and State ◆ The …
