"E-Tell is believed by some scholars, led by Prof. Rami Arav of the University of Nebraska in Omaha, to have been Geshur’s capital and is also thought to have been, centuries later, the village of Bethsaida, which features prominently in the New Testament. " ... "The preliminary analysis of the pottery dates the fort to the early Iron Age, specifically the 11th or 10th century B.C.E., Tzin says. This, according to the biblical chronology, would have been the time of the great united Israelite monarchy of David and Solomon, and Geshur is mentioned several times in the holy text in connection to this kingdom. For example, King David is said to have married Maakah,…

This funerary stele presents under a long inscription in Aramaic a figurative scene with a priest seated at the banquet. The cult of the moon god, Sîn in Akkadian, is already well established in the Aleppo region of Syria. In the long dedication the deceased takes stock of his life and says his desire for a beautiful death and to enjoy the rest in the Hereafter without its remains being desecrated. What fascinates me the most about the first temple are its striking similarities (according to the bible's descriptions) to the polytheist temples of the Phoenicians: https://www.biblicalarchaeology.org/daily/biblical-sites-places/biblical-archaeology-sites/searching-for-the-temple-of-king-solomon/

This is a nice article about archaeological finds, what caught my attention is the use of 586 BCE as the date for the destruction of Jerusalem. According to biblical descriptions, in 586 BCE, the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar vanquished the Judaean king Zedekiah and razed his capital city, Jerusalem. The Babylonian captain of the guard Nebuzaradan was dispatched into the city, where, as told in the Book of Jeremiah, he “burned the house of the Lord, and the king’s house; and all the houses of Jerusalem, even every great man’s house, burned he with fire.” Source

A Year in “the Good Land” In 1908 an exciting discovery was made at the site of the Biblical city of Gezer, which lies toward the coastal plain west of Jerusalem: a small limestone plaque, or tablet, believed to be from the tenth century B.C.E. On it, in ancient Hebrew script, was found what is thought to be a simplified version of an agricultural year, or cycle, with its various operations. This tablet has come to be known as the Gezer Calendar. The tablet bears a signature: Abijah. Though not all archaeologists agree, many consider it to be a schoolboy’s exercise set in verse.*(see footnote below) Would you like to see the passing of seasons through the eyes of a …

In ancient Rome, going to toilet was a social event. You would gather your friends, family and neigbours and go together to public latrines like this: You see the all the sticks lying on the ground, for now just remember those. I will come back to it. Now some real photos of Latrines of the Roman era: You would sit on the holes doing your business. There will be flowing water under the seat. You can have an engaged conversation with the person sitting next. And obviously while fully watching, hearing and smelling everyone’s business. Now one more photo of a public toilet. Now back to the stick on the ground. The stick would have a s…

In Hellenic and Roman art, the sun-god Helios and Roman emperors are often depicted with a radiant crown. The latter was not used in primitive Christian art because of its pagan origins, but from the mid 4th Century, Christ is thus represented. It was only from the 6th Century onwards that the halo began to be seen in most representations of the Virgin Mary and other saints. “The halos that artists during the Middle Ages put around the heads of saints are a remnant of sun worship.” - Will Durant “From the 4th Century, Christian artists began to paint Jesus with a halo of light, and later Mary and the Apostles. It is also charac…

God Shamash Louvre Location: Sb 7 Richelieu room 3 A sovereign pours libation on an altar before a seated god, recognisable by his tiara (crown) with several rows of horns. The god holds a ring and a rod, symbols of power and justice. A rayed sun disc dominates the scene. These symbols are often associated with Shamash, sun-god but also god of justice. The symbolism in the Bible is identical. Judah gives his signet ‘ring’ and the ‘staff that is in thy hand’, both personal and precious, as a pledge to Tamar (Genesis 38:18). The rod of Moses became a symbol of his authority. - (Exodus 14) In his …

In the Bible, the sun is never deified because, as an impersonal force, it was created by God as a great light to light up the Earth and set a calendar. The existence of sun worship in the Kingdom of Judah is reported by the Prophet Ezekiel. “They were bowing down to the east, to the sun.” (Ezekiel 8:16). This apostate behaviour went against the Law (Deuteronomy 4:19) and the words of the psalmist, “For Jehovah God is a sun and a shield; Favor and glory are what he gives.” (Psalm 84:11). Years earlier, the King Josiah had however abolished worship of the sun-god. - 2 Kings 23:5. The Temptation of Christ MI 285 Location in the Louvre:…

SCIENCE RED SEA: Archaeologists Discover Remains Of Egyptian Army From The Biblical Exodus The discovery of the remains of a large Egyptian army at the bottom of the Gulf of Suez, 1.5 km offshore from the modern city of Ras Gharib, has been announced this morning by Egypt’s Antiquities Ministry. The team of underwater archaeologists was in search of ancient shipwrecks and artifacts from the Stone and Bronze Age trade in the Red Sea when they came across a huge pile of human bones dated back to the 14th century BC. The Hong Kong-based team rebutted skepticism over their claims of finding Noah's Ark in Turkey. Two members of the search team that claims to have found Noah’s Ark on Mount Ararat in Turkey responded to skepticism by saying that there is no plausible explanation for what they found other than it is the fabled biblical boat that weathered a storm that raged 40 days and 40 nights and flooded the entire Earth.Noah's Ark Ministries International (NAMI) held a press conference April 25 in Hong Kong to present their findings and say they were “99.9 percent sure” that a wooden structure found at a 12,000-ft. elevation and dated as 4,800 years old was Noah’s Ark.members of the Ch…

Holy Land's 'oldest church' found at Armageddon Chris McGrealFirst published on Mon 7 Nov 2005 05.28Â EST Prisoners help unearth remains at jail on site of final biblical showdown As if Megiddo, the biblical city of Armageddon - scene of three millennia of battles, the last cavalry charge of the first world war and the final showdown between good and evil - did not have enough on its plate. Archaeologists now claim to have unearthed the remains of the oldest Christian church discovered in the Holy Land. Unfortunately for Israel's beleaguered tourism industry, the find was made behind the walls of one of the country's maximum security prisons. …

By Tom Metcalfe, Live Science Contributor | June 4, 2018 The body of a man buried in northern Italy 2,000 years ago shows signs that he died after being nailed to a wooden cross, the method used for the execution of Jesus described in the Christian Bible. Although crucifixion was a common form of capital punishment for criminals and slaves in ancient Roman times, the new finding is only the second time that direct archaeological evidence of it has been found. A new study of the skeletal remains of the man, found near Venice in 2007, reveals a lesion and unhealed fracture on one of the heel bones that suggests his feet had been nailed to a cross. Syrian Deity. Naaman, commander of the Syrian army, after being cured of leprosy, he recognized Jehovah as the true God but expressed concern due to the fact that was to accompany the king of Syria in the temple of Rimmon and there bow down with the king before the idol of Rimmon , since the king leaned on his arm. - 2 Kings 5: 15-18. Rimmon is generally identified with Ramman ( "roaring, thundering"), the god worshiped in Assyria and Babylonia. It has been suggested that by Assyria the worship of Rimmon (Ramman) have been successfully settled tribes or somewhere around then to Damascus. Some scholars Rimmon (Ramman) could be a simple title of the storm god Adad (Hadad). …
