If yesteryear’s Coachella is known for one thing, it’s photos of young people dressed as if the California desert were the only habitable clime in the world. But this year’s Coachella, which kicked off yesterday, shows the festival’s increasingly cosmopolitan view of music and art. Exhibit A: Blackpink. The four-member, all-female K-pop group performed at Coachella last night—and their set made waves far outside Indio. YouTube livestreamed the performance on the biggest billboard in NYC’s Times Square. Haven’t seen Blackpink’s hit on YouTube yet? You might be the only one... The South Korean group just broke YouTube’s record for most-viewed music vi…

Do you know what tetraphobia means? It means ‘fear of four’ in Greek: a combination of the Greek words tetra (the number 4) and phobia (fear). You might be shocked to find that tetraphobia is fairly common throughout the many Asian countries such as, China Japan, and Korea. As some believe the number 13 has the unlucky connotation in the western cultures, many have 미신 (superstitions) about the number 4 in 한국 (South Korea). 4자 기피 [sa-jja-gi-pi] – tetraphobia: fear of the number four 13 층 [sip-sam-cheung] – 13th floor 호텔 엘리베이터 [ho-tel-el-li-be-ee-tuh] – hotel elevator 12층 [sip-ee-cheung] – 12th floor 14 층 [sip-sa-cheung] …

Hyperloop Technologies Transportation (HTT) has forged a deal to make a near-supersonic train in South Korea. The train would go from Seoul to Busan, a roughly 200 mile expedition. South Korean officials have previously stated that their goal is to have a Hyperloop that goes about 620 mph, making the 200 mile journey between the cities last for about 20 minutes. To put it in an American perspective, the Hyperloop being discussed in South Korea could take someone from Los Angeles to San Francisco — an over 380 mile journey — in roughly half an hour, which would knock more than 5 hours off the current commute time. Hyperloop uses magnetic levitation in low-pr…

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement that North Korea attempted to launch an unidentified missile at about 5:20 a.m. local time but that it is presumed to have failed. A man watches a TV news program showing a file footage of a missile launch conducted by North Korea, at the Seoul Train Station in Seoul, South Korea, Saturday, April 23, 2016. The Korean letters at top left read: “North Korea fires a submarine-launched ballistic missile or SLBM.” (AP Photo/Lee Jin-man) The JCS says it is further analyzing the situation, and gave no other immediate details. The apparent launch failure comes amid tensions over recent nuclear…
