The case over Michigan’s ‘Anti-Tesla law’ will be dragged out well into 2018 as both sides are expected to provide a list of expert witnesses next month, and the pre-trial “discovery” phase is predicted to take months. A lawsuit of this magnitude has the potential to set national precedent in commerce and trade regulations as Tesla continues to defend its business model relying strictly on hype and word-of-mouth. “Any type of lawsuit like this — whether you win or lose — establishes a precedent,” said David Cole, chairman emeritus of the Center for Automotive Research in Ann Arbor in an article published in The Detroit News. “It’s hard to change the direction of…

Just as quickly as Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg went from casual acquaintances to full-on foes, 2017 is more than halfway over. Tesla had a lot of lofty goals for the year, and made some big moves like the release of the Model 3, but there are still a few ideas brewing that Musk would like to execute by year’s end. Anticipated Model 3 Release Source: Tesla As mentioned above, the Tesla Model 3 graced the world with its presence this year, and its rollout is in two days at a company handover party. As we previously reported, production is expected to kick into a higher gear and Musk’s processes and logistics will be tested following the off…

When you think Tesla, your typically think Fremont, California or Sparks, Nevada. But Bloomberg published a fascinating story, The Canadian Ghost Town That Tesla Is Bringing Back to Life, which reports on some important mines in North America that are addressing the “global demand for cobalt, a component in batteries used to power electric cars for automakers from Tesla Inc. to Volkswagen AG.” So where is this so-called Canadian ghost town? Ironically, itÂ’s called Cobalt, Ontario and it only has a population 1,100. Above: Cobalt has a long history of mining silver but thatÂ’s changing as Cobalt is fast-becoming a hotspot for its namesake, cobalt (Image: Camp Scout) …

It has been seven years (and a day) since Elon Musk made the decision to take Tesla Inc. (TSLA) public, and what a financial ride it has been. The company started off offering 13,300,000 shares at an IPO price of $17 a share. At the time of this writing, TSLA is trading above $360 per share, indicating that TSLA was definitely a bet worth making for those playing the stock game back when the shares were in the teens. Although the stock is fairly successful now, there were always those who doubted Musk and the company’s longevity on the stock market. “Optimism, pessimism, f*** that; we’re going to make it happen. As God as my bloody witness, I’m hell-bent on…

An electric vehicle is more than just a new form of technology. It’s part of a shift in our entire way of life. From a consumables based civilization to a renewable one. My last article focused on the environmental benefits of driving an electric vehicle, but what about manufacturing? Is it also sustainable? One of the main themes from my previous article is that the data surrounding electric vehicles has been quickly changing. Our electricity grid is getting greener, batteries are increasing in energy density, and costs are falling. This rapid advancement is the reason for many misconceptions about electric vehicles and it holds true of manufacturing as well. Thi…

Although Tesla is "off" to most normal onlookers... you must realize that the battery regulations system and other systems are in an ALWAYS on mode. Very interesting to see the car actually working even while it may appear "off" to onlookers. Needless to say I go to see some of the inner software at work. Pretty complex code running 24/7

With the surge in demand for electric vehicles causing the need for more ‘GigafactoriesÂ’ to be built, demand is high for lithium ion batteriesÂ’ key ingredient: cobalt. Cobalt is an earth metal that makes up about 35 percent of the lithium ion battery mix — the battery used in EVs and smartphones. The battery business makes up 42 percent of the global cobalt demand, and companies such as Tesla, Apple and Google are scrambling to secure as much of the precious metal as possible. Like most things, this is easier said than done. Cobalt supply is already in a severe deficit and thatÂ’s without considering the exponential increase of nearly 500 percent in demand t…

Elon Musk entertained a flurry of Twitter requests over the weekend made by Tesla owners who asked for new vehicle features ranging from auto-closing sunroofs that can detect rain, to an easy-entry/exit function for Model S, Model X and Model 3 drivers. Both of which he agreed would be introduced in one of the upcoming over-the-air software updates. However, MuskÂ’s latest tweet goes beyond a confirmation on a feature intended for a single vehicle. Rather, Tesla is looking to leverage its data gathering expertise to create a cloud-based driverÂ’s profile that can be accessed on any Tesla in the world. “We are going to move all info and settings to the ‘cl…

Audi will be pairing with Altra Devices, a Chinese photovoltaic cell developer, to produce solar energy-capturing glass roofs for the luxury car brand. The solar-embedded panoramic roofs are expected to be transparent, and will generate enough energy to power a vehicle’s air conditioning system, heated seats, onboard electronic devices, and other accessories. Audi believes that the solar roof could one day be used to charge electric vehicles. The post Audi could forge ahead with EV solar roof despite Tesla skepticism appeared first on TESLARATI.com. Via

The Cathedral College in Rockhampton becomes the first school in Australia to use Tesla’s Powerpack system to spur 40 to 50 percent in energy savings for the institution, and with a return on investment of just six years. A video released by Tesla details the project, showing the schoolÂ’s use of the Powerpack battery storage unit combined with a 100kW solar system to power the collegeÂ’s boarding houses and other buildings throughout the night. “The motivation for us with installing the Tesla Powerpack was to create an efficient way for us to harness the energy produced by the sun and use that at nighttime,” Aaron Nunn, ICT Manager for The Cathedral College, …

Australian grid operator to add 250 kW Tesla Powerpack for “demand response” and blackout prevention
by Guest- 0 replies

Australian transmission operator Transgrid has announced that it will install a 250 kilowatt, 500 kilowatt hour Powerpack installation in New South Wales to better manageme fluctuating energy demand and prevent blackouts. Transgrid operates the high voltage electricity transmission backbone for NSW and the ACT which connects the generators, distributors and large scale consumers of power. It is looking to energy storage as a means to smooth power spikes caused by renewables like solar which at the grid level, creates a spike in generation at midday that does not always correspond to usage. Unlike fossil fuel fired generation which can be throttled up or down as neede…

The last several months have been busy in the electric vehicle revolution. Governments have been announcing their phase out plans for petrol vehicles and automakers have committed billions of dollars to electrification programs. At this point automakers are practically falling over each other racing to get out their announcements. How many electric vehicles they’re developing, how much they’re investing, are they going fully electrified, and when. Suddenly no one wants to be perceived as falling behind in this revolution. And why should they? Nokia and Blackberry can attest to what happens if you do. In the past, established automakers have been very cautious with e…

More than 70 electric vehicle charging ports will be added in rural Western Australia in a move that’s aimed at providing drivers with more options to refuel while cruising down the coast, according to WAToday. Robert Dean and his partner Robin made a 13-day, 5,400 kilometer (3,356 mile) trip from Perth to Broome in their 2015 Tesla Model S. They stopped every 400 kilometers (249 miles) to recharge on their journey, which they made before the charging port announcement. “People were saying, ‘You can’t do that!,’ but I knew we could,” Rob told RAC. “It became a challenge to prove we could and I thought we could actually do it quite easily.” The journey is a major bl…

From the Model 3 delivery event to the Q3 earnings report, TSLA had quite the week on the NASDAQ. The stock kicked off the week at a 1% increase after the Model 3 delivery event. As more of the information from the event resonated on Wall Street, the stock lowered a bit. While it was widely known that there would be levels of pricing, many were surprised at just how high some of the options went, expecting the whole shebang to cap out around $42,000 instead of the higher tiers the company offered. First photos of Tesla’s Model 3 online configurator revealed a starting price of $49,000 for first production cars and topping at nearly $60,000 for a fully optioned rear w…

This story was originally published on EVANNEX. Renowned mutual fund manager and investment icon Ron Baron of Baron Capital is well-known for his conservative, long-term approach to stock picking. He’s been compared to Warren Buffett (both for his investing style and outstanding track record) and has said that Tesla “may be the most interesting” company he’s ever invested in over his 46 year career. Yesterday, CNBC interviewed Baron for his views on Tesla [NASDAQ: TSLA]. What is his forecast for the stock? “I think it is going to be about $500 to $600 next year, and I think it is going to be $1,000 in 2020.” At that time, Baron said, he expects the company to ha…

BMW challenging Tesla with major EV strategy: “All brands and model series can be electrified”
by Guest- 0 replies
BMW group has joined the likes of Tesla and Volvo in bringing more EVs to the world’s streets. The company announced that all brands and model series can be electrified, and will offer a full-electric or hybrid plug-in drivetrain as an option to internal combustion engine vehicles. The company predicts that electrified vehicles will account for 15 to 25 percent of its sales by 2025, according to a company press release. The announcement by BMW is a signal that international car manufacturers are reacting to the EV movement spurred by companies like Tesla. Volvo announced earlier this month that it’s aiming to have 1 million EVs on the road by 2025, and Volkswa…
