U.S. health officials are warning hundreds of thousands of clinicians in hospitals around the country to be on the lookout for an emerging and highly drug-resistant type of yeast that is causing potentially fatal infections in hospitalized patients around the world. Most people are familiar with the garden variety kind of yeast infections that people get on the skin or in their genitals. But invasive yeast infections can be fatal, especially for patients in intensive care or having surgery. Others at risk include people with diabetes, patients taking powerful antibiotics and antifungal medications, and those with catheters. This emerging strain of yeast, known a…

"We expect the daily death rate in the United States, because of seasonality and declining vigilance of the public, to reach nearly 3000 a day in December," the institute, which bills itself as an independent research centre, said in an update of its periodic forecasts. https://www.smh.com.au/world/north-america/us-coronavirus-deaths-projected-to-more-than-double-to-410-000-by-year-s-end-20200905-p55smq.html The maximum number of new cases recorded in one day in the US was 78k. Yesterday we had 52k new cases. That's 2/3 of the record!

couple things to put in perspective. we have only eradicated 2 diseases from the planet, smallpox and rinderpest. the bubonic plague is still around. there was another case this year in the us. antibiotics have rendered the once greatest plague in history almost an afterthought. H1N1 was the common flu strain in 2018. that is the same viral lineage that spawned the spanish flu of 2018 and swine flu. these plagues continually fade away and resurface. So yes, covid will fade, but it may come back a later date. the key is keep an eye out for aggressive strains, and take appropriate actions to contain them. https://www.cnbc.com/2020/07/22/dr-anthony-f…

Dermatologists around the world are gathering data on what may be largely overlooked symptoms of COVID-19: skin conditions ranging from rashes to “pseudo-frostbite.” Many viral illnesses—including chickenpox, measles and mononucleosis—are accompanied by telltale skin rashes, often a result of the body’s heightened inflammatory response while fighting off infection. Though more research is needed, a growing number of case reports and preliminary studies suggest SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, can also affect the skin. In late March, an Italian physician submitted a letter to the editor of the Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereol…

My opinion is that you keep the correct levels of vitamin D in your body. Now a days, due to staying indoors, it is possible that you will develop the deficiency of vitamin D. Get this checked by your doctor and use the correct dose to stay healthy. Here are my notes: Daily 10 microgram or 400 IU/Day Lippincott’s Biochemistry Review 4th Edition. Page 388 Daily 5 mg of cholecalciferol or 200 IU of Vitamin D. However, 800 IU/Day is shown to reduce the incidence of osteoporotic fractures. 800 IU/Day recommended by the Institute of Medicine to maintain bone health. Frank deficiency is when the levels of 25-hydroxycholecalciferol (25OHD) is less than 20 ng/mL…

https://newatlas.com/medical/reversing-aging-discovery-restore-telomeres/ "...the team used human blood stem cells and triggered mutations in the PARN gene that give rise to dyskeratosis congenita. These were then implanted into mice that were treated with the compounds, with the team finding the treatment boosted TERC, restored telomere length in the stem cells and had no ill effects on the rodents. “This provided the hope that this could become a clinical treatment,” says Nagpal. The team will now continue its work in an effort to prove these small molecules are a safe and effective way to apply the brakes to dyskeratosis congenita, other diseases, and po…

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7172861/ Over the past century, the opinion that Vit-C can be used to treat cancer and viral infection has shown promises and controversies. There are cases where high dose Vit-C has shown benefits. In some cases, there have been no benefits. However, new knowledge regarding the pharmacokinetic properties of Vit-C, and recent preclinical studies, have revived interest in the utilization of high-dose Vit-C for cancer treatment [[132], [133], [134], [135], [136], [137], [138], [139], [140], [141], [142], [143], [144], [145]]. Similar is the case of using IV Vit-C as antiviral, especially for the recent Covid19 [[146], [147],…

Patient on days 8 and 11 after the onset of illness: Full report: https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2001017 Heres a normal one for comparison: Here is one showing pneumonia in the right lung base: So basically it clogs up the lungs with the dense white stuff The dense white stuff being fluid, mucus, and other stuff that generally shouldn’t be in your lungs. This is what all cases of pneumonia do, regardless of their origin (viral, bacterial, chemical, etc.) and relative severity. How might the treatment in a hospital be for this? They install apparatuses to aid breathing and create an environment in the body th…

The United States has confirmed the first case of the new coronavirus on its territory. The Centers for Disease Control said the virus, which originated in China, had been diagnosed in a US resident who arrived in Seattle from China. The virus, which spread from the Chinese city of Wuhan, has infected almost 300 people, and six have died. North Korea has temporarily closed its borders to foreign tourists in response to the threat, a tour operator says. The patient diagnosed in the US - reported to be a man in his 30s - returned from Wuhan on 15 January, the CDC said. "The patient sought care at a medical facility in the state of Washington, where …

This week, U.K. Health Secretary Matt Hancock pledged that all British newborns will be able to have their genomes sequenced at birth. The babies don't get much of a say, but mums and dads can opt in. By receiving this genetic information, families could get advanced warning of heightened disease risks and plan for personalized treatment. In the U.S., doctors used Crispr to snip the genes of cancer patients (a first in the country). The technology is quickly advancing: Last month, researchers announced a more precise, flexible version called "prime editing." The new genome-editing tool lets researchers ctrl-alt-delete or ctrl-v DNA with less collateral damage. …
