A new Gigafactory in Buffalo, N.Y., is slated to begin production on Tesla solar tiles this fall, and partner Panasonic is heading an effort to hire some 300 new employees for positions that range from engineers and technicians to manufacturers. The Buffalo News reported that Tesla has committed to bring nearly 3,000 jobs to the Buffalo area, and the joint venture with Panasonic is the latest step toward making good on that promise. Elon Musk has regained the rights to X.com, according to a Tweet sent last night by the serial tech entrepreneur who founded X in 1999 and later renamed to PayPal in 2001. BRANDON, Miss. — Almost immediately after she found out she was pregnant, Brandon resident Jordan Thiering began preparing for her baby. She bought outfits and stocked up on cloth diapers. She and husband Doug assembled baby furniture and decorated the nursery with the name they had chosen for their son; they would call him Roman, middle name to be determined. They packed a bag, ready for that moment they had to rush off to the hospital. In a multitude of ways, Thiering was prepared for her baby’s arrival. One thing she was not prepared for, however, was to go to court. At 33 weeks pregnant, Thiering got a court order giving her the rights to her placenta. …

This article first appeared on: Lucid Air just hit the astonishingly high speed of 235 mph during its latest round of testing. Lucid previously fitted one of its prototypes with a roll cage to prep for a series of high-speed tests intended to explore the limits of the platform. The prototype, the Lucid Air Alpha Speed Car, was first tested in April 2017. The car was given aerodynamic aids and a parachute for the initial tests to slow the car abruptly in case the straights didn’t prove long enough to reach desired speeds and slow down for the following turns. For this first test, the top speed was software limited to 217 mph, with the driver exiti…

The Wall Street Journal released updated data yesterday on how the elimination of Hong Kong’s vehicle-registration tax waiver for electrics impacted Tesla sales, and the results weren’t stellar. Data analysis from the publication shows that zero new Tesla Model S sedans and Model X SUVs were registered with the Hong Kong transport department in April after the tax break was discontinued at the start of that month. In May, five electric cars were registered for the whole month. Tesla sales boomed before the April 1 rule change, with 2,939 Tesla vehicles registered in March, making for a total of nearly 3,700 for the first quarter of 2017. The end of the tax …
