The thing about fashion is that some people look better in one type of clothes than another.

Why it works the way it does is a mystery to me, but I realize it as a valid phenomenon.

If it was up to me I would wear Levis, and a blue long sleeve dress  shirt  without a tie  EVERYWHERE, including the Meetings.

I change clothes about every three days, but  it does not appear that I do.

To those that see me everyday, it appears I never change clothes. Comfort fit Levis, dark blue long sleeve permanent press dress shirt open collar, red t-shirt, red wide "fireman's" suspenders AND a belt, and tan suede shows with no socks.

Everyday.

Exactly the same.

I KNOW it looks dorky to fashionistas, but it works for me!

If I had a LOT of money, it would be totally acceptable at the Meetings. ("Oh...he's just ECCENTRIC ...")

Underneath I have bare skin, which is very helpful in keeping my insides ... in.

Superman had the same problem ... same outfit, everyday ... day in and day out ... week after week ... year after year ...  but his shirt tail kept popping out, and when he bent over he showed his butt crack, so early in life he realized he needed to wear a cape, or sell advertising space.

I personally saw NOTHING wrong with the way anyone in this illustration was dressed.

Kick Me.jpg

It does look like the Brother in the tan suit is afraid that the Brother in the light blue shirt has just put a "KICK ME" sign on his back, or he is afraid of becoming a hand puppet.

Just remember this basic Congregational rule about proper dress ...  "If it's neat and clean, and well arranged and modest ....  hides your fat, and for Sisters, if it looks cheap and frumpy ... it's acceptable".

Years ago I was at a District Assembly at Hampton Roads Coliseum, and through my binoculars noticed the DO and key speaker had fluorescent yellow patent leather mirror finish shoes.  I do not know anywhere in the world you could even buy shoes like that ... and 50 years later, STILL don't know.

My only objection about the following picture is that the "tight pants"are  UGLY, and it appears you would need side leg zippers up to your knees to get them on and off.

How do you even DO this... .jpg

.... perhaps to get your feet through the pants legs you have to temporarily remove the feet.

With the Brothers outrageous and ugly haircut and mismatched shoes, and clown socks, it is quite clear that he was DELIBERATELY dressed and groomed for the photo to be as repulsive as possible

Of course.

I OFTEN wonder, looking at that picture, if a smart artist on the Bethel staff is trying to illustrate .... and for those that are not clueless,  successfully so,  .... how totally goofy and cringeworthy some of what corporate thinking is actually like.

... someone with an outrageous sense of humor with complete impunity, slipping "inside jokes" past the totally clueless editorial staff .

Are you ready for a New World and this kind of Fashion style? :)))

I am a big fan of women's Ferengi fashions.

But not for Ferengi women.

QUARK: Would somebody please tell me what's going on?

ISHKA: It's one of those good news bad news type of things. Give them the good news first.

ZEK: If you insist. Three days ago, I added a new amendment to the Ferengi Bill of Opportunities giving females the right to wear clothes.

ROM: In public?

ISHKA: Anywhere we want.

QUARK: That can't be the good news. If Ferengi females can wear clothes in public, then they can leave their homes. If they can leave their homes, they can go to work. If they can go to work, they can make profit.

ISHKA: What's the matter, Quark? Afraid of a little competition?

Yes one thing that I've always considered wrong (but who am i to judge) is that all men are supposed to dress in 'Western style fashion'. No not Wild west fashion. And at assemblies in Twickenham UK, on the last day of the assembly,  some overseas bros and sis are 'allowed' to walk around the 'arena' in their 'native costumes'. Why shouldn't people be allowed to wear the clothes they would normally wear in their own countries, as long as it's decent of course, all the time.

@James Thomas Rook Jr. I remember when I used to attend Catholic school and church, the girls had to wear head coverings and dresses, the hem of which had to be below the knees. The boys had to wear shirts, ties and slacks. It was called respect for where you were and standing before God in modesty. Then as the churches began to loose so many parishioners and the pews became empty, the hierarchy gave up the idea of modesty and decorum and now allows men and women to wear shorts, T shirts, flip flops, hair curlers and no head coverings.

I read an article, a few months back, where med students did a study taking swabs of chairs in public places, seats in theaters and on public transportation and various other public places and they found feces, blood, urine and other various bodily fluids on a mass scale. It may be cute and titillating to see a girl walking around and bending over while in her preferred attire, however, most people gag at what they may be exposing themselves to.

Lack of respect and lack of modesty for God and your fellow man is at the crux of the matter. Everyone has freedom, freewill to do what is within their purview as acceptable. But if one calls themselves a Witness of Jehovah, their metamorphosis must be complete as to Christian dress, grooming, behavior and as the apostle Paul admonishes at Romans 12: 2 "Do not copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. (WHY?)  Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect."

WE do not have to be exposed to a piece of cloth stretched across  someone's genitals to know he's a male, we do not have to be exposed to a thong and bare behind to know we are in the company of a female. We do not need hypocrites, with their pretend piety and lips dripping  death dealing venom, in our midst when there are hundreds of "come as YOU are and do what YOU want" religions available to them.

I agree with modesty but not with the 'traditions of men'.

The suit and tie is from the world isn't it ? So when it suits the GB to follow the world then it's ok is it ?

If people cannot see beyond clothing then they have poor judgement.

I think this is the crux of the matter.

In an Engineering Office, you know when a client's project has been totally screwed up and gone over budget ... when management starts stressing the dress code of suits and ties for all employees ... as if that will impress  an over billed client that the Engineering Firm's management  are competent.

This is based on the idea that the client is SO STUPID that they will think clowns stop being clowns because they have changed costumes.

I was working on a project in Cincinnati, Ohio ... 945 people in two large four-story buildings ... when the client we were doing work for locally and all the way to China, got fed up with TRYING to be taken for a fool, and fired our firm.

In 30 days it went from 945 people to less than 30 people, and within a year they had to close the office.

Everybody in the office knew what the problem really was ... EXCEPT MANAGEMENT.

@JOHN BUTLER "Traditions of men" are the designers of the couture of the day. Whatever a so called fashion house thinks will sell. Those are the traditions of men which have nothing to do with being modest but blatantly immodest.  Are the designers looking to please God or their pocket book?

There is a wide variety of styles and/or colors that can be chosen as long as the clothing is not revealing breasts or emphasizing genitalia. However, "traditions of men" do not follow those guidelines. The apostle councils "Obey your spiritual leaders, and what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit."

Acts 20:28 " Pay attention to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the holy spirit has appointed YOU overseers, to shepherd the congregation of God, which he purchased with the blood of his own [Son].

I must emphasize that the door opens the same whether your going out or coming in. The world welcomes all those who desire to look as though they are wearing their baby brother's clothing. "Traditions" are waiting for you on the other side of the door.

The Governing Body is there to do oversight of Jehovah's organization, just as in the first century. If you can speak 930 languages, send out thousands of envoys into 240 lands - then feel free, no one is stopping you. If you can build Bethel homes and translation facilities, If you can care for disaster relief for millions then have at it.

But markedly, those who constantly find fault with the "Governing Body, The Slave" do not leave because they want to preserve their complaining behinds. They actually think that they will be preserved alive through the tribulation and that Jehovah has not already read their hearts. Free Will, The Choice is yours.

@James Thomas Rook Jr. EXCEPT, the Slave's existence does not depend on pacifying a client, employee or volunteer. Their continued success (since 1870) Is Jehovah's spirit. Prospective volunteers continue to fill out applications and flock to Jehovah's organization. The Governing Body is directed by Jehovah himself. The problem isn't modest dress it is the corrupted reasoning by apostates. Nit picking, whiners mirror 1914 and what happened to those who tried to bring in apostate teaching and thinking? The were cast out/ thrown out where they still fought amongst themselves until they split into several splinter groups which are never ever heard from.

@James Thomas Rook Jr. Everybody in the office knew what the problem really was ... EXCEPT MANAGEMENT.

WOW!! Is that meant to be a threat? I'm sure the Slave will take your rebellious diatribe under consideration. If one is not part of the sheep fold, its because the shepherd did not call their name.

Actually, I agree with you on that one.

There is no other rational explanation among intelligent, thinking people.

The LORD knows that, and I know that ... otherwise they would have been laughed off the stage a long time ago.

The clueless ATTRACT the clueless .... but with Google, it has reached a critical time when people in general are getting smarter ... and it is a REAL problem. A VERY real problem in credibility, but not among the clueless, AS THE MONEY KEEPS ROLLING IN .... no matter WHAT is said or done.

Think I am exaggerating?

Here are two classic examples for your review.

Sami - I would appreciate your review and considered opinion of what you are hearing here from the Governing Body.

Very rarely in our area do we have friends dressing inappropriately.

There was a young sister who wore an embarrassingly tight dress once, my wife and I felt sorry for her and wondered how her parents didn't notice.  We weren't the only ones shaking our heads.  It happens, move on.

It would not be surprising how some would want to take her out into the Kingdom Hall parking lot, and have her CRUSHED, by the 350 pound Sisters.

Jesus said the Pharisees followed the 'Traditions of Men'. Surely you know and understand that much ?

THE GB seem to have given themselves the title 'Faithful and discreet slave'. However there are many things that would prove otherwise. But that would be going off topic, which I constantly get told of about.

You have quoted scripture to show that the GB are the boss. However there are scriptures which tell the 'leaders' ' not to lord it over the congregation'.

I'm sure anyone can find a scripture to suit their own needs.

One other point on the clothing of brothers and sisters.  Assemblies and conventions are where the young ones / single ones go to find a marriage mate. Well they are not supposed to be looking 'in the world', so it has to be at the conventions. Not everyone wants someone from their own congregation.

Hence the young and single want to look like young and single and who can blame them. Just because the GB are old frumps doesn't mean everyone has to be... And just because you don't like something doesn't mean everyone has to dislike it.

As I've said before, Jesus said 'Remove the rafter from your own eye before trying to remove the straw from your brother's eye'.

So having nice hair and a good outfit is apparently bad? I see people dress like this at the convention all the time lol
      Wild colored socks.
Anthony Morris III actually wasn’t saying there’s anything wrong with that. He said that sock color was a matter of taste, and that he thought some of these young brothers with brightly colored socks were demonstrating poor taste, but it wasn’t immodest.
      - Anthony Morris III - Governing Body member speaking at the US Branch Visit on November 8, 2014
      Tight Pants
(tight pants on the young brothers who the worldly gay designers are drooling over at 27:35)

“…and the other one that needs addressing is for these young fellows, cause the older ones aren’t doing much of it, thankfully, uhhh, it’s the metrosexual look. We’ve addressed that in the past, we’ve said things about it, but what’s happened now has really caught on more.

Now the metrosexual look, that’s the tight suit jacket and the tight pants, better known as ‘tight pants’. (laughter) And, uh, they are tight, I mean tight all the way down to the ankles. And, that is not modest brothers. No. It’s not appropriate. It’s not sound of mind.

And I was proud of one Circuit Overseer who told me this past summer at one of the Intl. Conventions, 'cuz he brought it up, one of these fellows, he shows up for his Circuit Overseer’s visit and wants to go out in the ministry work with him, door-to-door, he’s wearing 'tight pants’. And the Circuit Overseer was man enough, spiritual man enough to say, 'No. I’m not going door-to-door with you. Not with that dress on. Inappropriate.'

So a lot to think about and you elders out there listening in, and be kind now, we always want to try to imitate Christ Jesus. You be spiritual man enough to tell these young fellows 'You don’t go out in the ministry looking like that. Not in this organization.'
And frankly I have asked sister after sister, 'You know, what do you think of this? Do you find that appealing, attractive? You know, I’m just curious, 'cause I’m not a woman. Ahhh.’ (laughter) And you know what, I’ve not found one yet that thought they look good. (Garbled, poor audio quality for a couple seconds.)

And this is a fact, the homosexuals that are designing these clothes, they like you in tight pants. (Huge laughter) Not, spiritual people. So, it’s something to consider for Christian grooming. Is it appropriate? Is it modest? Does it display soundness of mind? If not, do something about it.”
      - Anthony Morris III - Governing Body member speaking at the US Branch Visit on November 8, 2014
      Spanx
“…what it is is this Spanx, this skin-tight stuff they wear. Now, are you sisters wearing this in the ministry? No. I can’t say that I’ve ever seen that. But when they exercise, they leave their home and they’re jogging in this stuff?

Look at the verse. Is that appropriate to wear skin-tight Spanx or whatever they call them? It’s not modest and it’s certainly not sound of mind. It’s really inappropriate. There’s nothing else to say about it. Now you want to be in your home or your room and wear that stuff, that’s your business. But don’t go out in public like that and say you worship the True God. ‘I’m just trying to stay in shape’. (laughter) Inappropriate.”

I remember in the 1960's and 1970's when some Kingdom Halls had a closet with white dress shirts, and visiting speakers would NOT BE ALLOWED to give their talks if they were "inappropriately dressed".  I was called off the platform during a Ministry School assignment because I had a blue shirt under my suit coat, and chastised because I had a mustache.
When Jesus was teaching in the Synagogue, did he have to conform to the dress code of Rabbis, and the sideburns never trimmed, and the long Long, LONG beards they had, in order to be allowed to teach from the "platform"?
I hope someone out there knows Jewish "rules' and customs about "dress codes" in Jesus' time ... he was referred to as "Rabbi".

    • Somewhere around 1995 a recruiter called me up and wanted me to go to work at the World Trade Center Towers.  He said I could live several states away, and commute in, and that there was a train station in the bottom of the World Trade Center, and I would never even have to go to a "surface street".   A four hour commute did not bother me at all, as I am a compulsive reader, and had a long list of unread books. The money was fabulous, and it was a great job... but it seemed to me that the place was a fire trap. I even considered taking a reserve parachute, and a shot gun with slugs, to shoot out the window, and parachute to the street below, in case of a fire.  I know it takes about 400 feet to get line stretch on the suspension lines of a parachute, and before that, a parachute is merely decorative. So, I would have needed about 600 feet for a successful deployment. I calculated the odds six ways from Sunday, and decided not to take the job. September 11, 2001, I knew I had made the right decision.
