I know this is a disgusting topic / question... but I rent a room in an apartment where the others are not so clean.

What is the best way to kill and prevent these critters from entering my room?

Anyone else had experience killing these bugs?

We use this Raid Max, it is very effective even with scorpions, it kills them immediately, eventually we also spray Cypermethrin combined with water and diesel, but with that you have to be very careful :)

I spray with HOME DEFENSE around windows, doors, any cracks, baseboard, then when that's dry I use Boric Acid (mix with a little sugar), put Boric Acid under all sinks around pipes, closet corners wherever they may enter. 20 Mule team Borax also works (old detergent) also mix with a little sugar, kills ants too. After a few weeks you should be ok. Mixture is ineffective if it gets wet.  Bay Leaves will keep them away also. I use all of these methods, have not seen a cockroach (maybe dead) in almost 1 year. One more thing sprinkle mixture behind stove, under all kitchen appliances  and in garage that's where they like to nest.

Who would have thought that this post would be in the top 10 on the main page forum?

Evidently there are a lot of people out there wanting to exterminate roaches!

The best cockroach killer is instant coffee, straight out of the jar.

Coffee is a vegetable, and is edible ... its a bean. So the cockroaches love to eat aromatic beans.

It's the caffeine that kills them, but it does require some work on your part.

You have to get up in the middle of the night and as fast as you can, flick the light switches on and off for at least 20 seconds.

In the dark, all the cockroaches have come out into the center of the room, and when you rapidly switch the lights, the stroboscopic effects scare and disorient them.

Remember ... they are ALREADY totally wired from eating the coffee.

This gives them a heart attack, and in the morning, you will see them all in the middle of the floor, lying on their backs, with their six legs and "hands" clutching their hearts. If you look close, they may have little tiny "x"s on their eyes, with tongues hanging out.
