Anne Celeste Herby, 99, of Conneaut Lake, formerly of Blairsville, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2017, surrounded by her loving family, at UPMC Hamot in Erie.

She was born March 12, 1918, in Allegheny County to the late Emil and Ladie Mary (Rataicak) Brenkus.

She married Russell Herby in 1935. He preceded her in death on Jan. 19, 2004.

Anne would proudly want to be remembered as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She was a woman of strong faith and dedication, active in her service for over 86 years.

She had a large and loving spiritual family. She was a devoted wife and mother and loved her family to the fullest. She delighted in her children and grandchildren.

Anne was well known for her generous hospitality and home-cooked meals, her huge heart, an open kitchen door to all, her handwritten cards and her baking.

Especially coveted was her apple pie.

She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening and canning. She was an avid fan of the Pens, Pirates and Steelers.

She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her four children: Jo Anne Anderson Burns and her husband, Charles, of Conneaut Lake; Jon Herby and his companion, Constance Ottie, of Blairsville; Ralph (Sue) Herby, of Blairsville; and Stephen Emil (Molly) Herby, of Blairsville; eight grandchildren: Zachery (Cindy) Anderson, Tawnia (Ted) Demianczyk, Camille Kobrys, Ingrid (Steve) Yoney, Camille (Evan) Verbofski, Nathan Herby, Angela (Nick) Pinizzotto and Shawn (Cindy) Burns; 14 great-grandchildren: Chelsea, Tyler, Haley, Kayla, Beau (Laken), Mitch (Lindsey), Koltan, Nolan, Riley, Will, Cami, Eric, Jacob and Dylan; and three great-great-grandchildren: Sam, Lawson and Linik.

In addition to her husband of nearly 69 years, she was preceded in death by a son, Carl Russell; sisters Tina, Mary, Marg and Luicille; and only brother, Emil.

Visitation for friends and family will be from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday, July 8, followed by a memorial service to be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 324 Newport Road, Blairsville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society at JW.org.

Arrangements are under the care of McCauley Funeral Home, 1405 Main St., Conneautville.
