Tesla held a Model 3 test drive and training event for employees last Friday, September 1 at the company’s headquarters in Palo Alto, California. Ahead of this monthÂ’s end of quarter, the event was meant to serve as a “get to know Model 3” type event for employees that have placed their online reservations for the vehicle, but have yet to convert it into an order. The invite-only event was also a way for the Silicon Valley-based electric car maker to familiarize their sales staff, including sales representatives, advisors, and store managers, with the Model 3 before the company begins rolling out the vehicle to Tesla showrooms, expected to take place in the fourth quarter.

YouTuber and Model S owner Alex Guberman from the Everything Tesla channel had the opportunity to join a Tesla employee as a guest and take part in the Model 3 test drive and training event. According to Guberman, “the people that were conducting the test drives were the showroom sales people”. Guberman further notes that the sales staff were practicing their demonstration of the Model 3.

“I think this was a great way for the sales staff to practice showcasing these cars so they know what to expect and have all the answers for the time when this car will make it to the showrooms around the country for the world to test drive.”

Guberman rode in Model 3 vehicles that were reportedly owned by Tesla staff with VIN numbers ranging between 100 to 300. The Everything Tesla host tells Teslarati that he rode as a passenger during the Model 3 test drives, and that only the employees were permitted to drive.

After a quick bout around Tesla HQ in the Model 3, Guberman and passengers ended up on the freeway “for about a mile” after making a wrong turn. While he wasn’t able to actually drive the vehicle, Guberman did get the chance to fully experience Model 3’s minimalistic, austere interior that many reservation holders are excited about.

Otherwise, the ride was largely low key — each test drive appointment was prearranged so only two groups test drove their Model 3s at a time.

Tesla employees have been slated as the first to receive their Model 3s as both a token of appreciation for their support and as a way to continue to work on the vehicle (if need be) without massive recalls.

As excitement for full scale production builds, some reservation holders are that much closer to understanding what it will mean to own a Model 3.
