I was born in Honolulu HI in 1942, just 3 months after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
My mom was born and raised there. My dad was in the Army, and stationed there, and that's how they met. They were married 11/18/40. They were there on December 7th. My mother was just 3 months away from having me. My dad was from Boston, and that's where I grew up. I have a sister who is a year and a half younger than I. My mother was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1950, although she had known the truth since she was a teenager. She was born 2/8/20 (this also happens to be the birth date of Lana Turner).

I was baptized in May of 1957, just 2 years before I graduated from high school, and I pioneered from '69 to '72. We attended the international conventions of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1953 and 1958. I remember 1963 also. But '58 was the granddaddy of them all.

I moved to WA state in 1987 because I liked the climate better than New England. Then I started dialing up a Witness-Only bulletin board system, and was met with many messages of welcome from a variety of friends (PHriends, as we called them), and one of those e-mails was from Grace Straley.

Over the course of time, I got to know things about her and vice verse, and we found out that we both wrote poetry and often shared these on the bulletin board. We did finally meet at the district convention in the summer of '95, incidentally.

When so many friends went to the Internet (as I did), they asked about the poetry, and that is when I decided to go this route and publish the poetry on a website for many friends to see and enjoy, as so many of them had been on the BBS.

And by the way, we did become the best of friends!!!!!

1 hour ago, The Librarian said:

Looks like all of her poems are now gone sadly. 😒

I'm finding a lot of the poetry here:

The last link is this:

http://ww.delightfulpoetry.com/introduction-4.html

(which resolves with www  or the "ww" as the subdomain.)

There are many poems from both Cynthia Becker and Grace Straley. For example:

http://www.delightfulpoetry.com/broken_reed.html

The other links in the list might be resolved through the "waybackmachine" or "web archive." For example:

Life Everlasing is Promised

from the above list is not available: http://www.poetsbranch.com/PPT/LifeEverlasting/LifeEverlasting.html

But an earlier version of it is available here:

http://web.archive.org/web/20160327223513/http://www.poetsbranch.com/PPT/LifeEverlasting/LifeEverlasting.html

Didn't test any others.

      Poetry at it's finest
      *SISTERS*
I was sitting, on a summer day, beneath a
shady tree, descending into slumber, when a
      vision came to me.
There was beating, of a thousand drums - the
ground was shaking too. Then over the
horizon came a woman into view.
--And then another woman, with a hundred at
her heel. They multiplied a thousand fold
      - the vision was surreal!
Salvation was their helmet and solid faith
      their shield, with righteousness, as
      breastplates, their hearts were well
      concealed.
--A mighty sword they all possessed, held
tightly in their palms. Was this the
female army indicated in the Psalms?
Their eyes were facing forward as they
marched in perfect time. Then I recognized
their faces! These were sisters - friends
      of mine!
--See there that single sister? Satan put her
to the test! How she longed to have a
husband; to be loved like all the rest!
And there, that older sister, though her
spouse does not believe, you'll find her
out in service, every morning, noon and
      eve.
--Another lost her husband, yet she marches
through her trial. Says she, 'He's on
vacation - merely resting for a while.'
And that one lost her husband when he
simply went AWOL. He dropped his sword
mid-battle, yet she's marching straight and
      tall.
--Oh! yes, and there's my sister with her
young ones - quite a sight. Her husband is
in prison - for the war, he refused to go
      and fight.
This sister here seems quite content - her
life seems quite ideal, but what goes on
behind closed doors, she never will reveal.
--In spite of all these hardships, the women
march on strong. The old, the young, the
strong, the weak: they bravely trudge
      along.
--And then, like lightning, one of them
stepped right up to my face. ' How dare
you rest!' she said to me. 'There's no
      time left to waste!'
Here, take this sword and take this
shield, this breastplate you must wear.'
'Don't rest until the Kingdom News is
      broadcast everywhere!'
--And so I found my place in line, with no
time to debate. For now, I see the urgency
      - my sleep will have to wait.
No time for insecurities, no time for
shrinking back. Just time to get this
preaching done, false doctrines to attack!
--So next time you sit down to rest or get
the urge to snooze, or if you start to tire
out while preaching the good news,
Observe this military force, just see what
they can do, and pray for strength from God
on high, then you can do it too.
--'The women telling the good news are a
      large army.' - Psalm 68:11

      "Looking  for  one  Heart !"
      "Looking for one Heart"
      And I'm Seeking everyone's Part
My Family is like one spirit
But with Jehovah, all don't want to hear it
If all of us understand what is best
All of us will be eternally Blesses
Because days and ages has gotten us all down
And the pain and sorrow it just seems to Drown
Me with the feelings of Grief I've gotten to a Slump
And sometime I feel like I live in a Garbage Dump
Even with my health, I'm weak in the knees,
Boy I miss my youth, when I could run with ease
But I don't mind getting older
Because It has make me bolder
      In my faith to Preach
Of Jehovah's New System that I Teach
Where all my Pain and Fears Will disappear
And to Jehovah God we all must adhere
Regardless the fact my family's not united in the Lord
It will not stop me from being in full accord
With Jehovah my God I will never Leave
Because he is the only one that I will belive
Especially for my Oldest son lost in death
I have the faith that Jehovah will give him new breath
To bring him back to life
So He may one day see his Wife
That never stopped loving his mother
Even falling in love with his Brother
Marrying him like in days of old
When they obeyed Jehovah in what they were told
Who will get her in the resurrection the bible does say
But the only thing that matters is that we obey
His word and law today and forever
So those that love him will never sever
A relationship I want all my family to get
So every one of us will emit
The Love and Joy that Jesus Displayed
This is my prayer that all I can persuade
That all my living sons and their wives will see
My lost son that has a guarantee
Of everlasting life that we all can attain
If our love for Jehovah we don't break the chain
That our whole family must impart
That we all are "Looking for one Heart"

No tongue have I, nor mouth, nor lip, a speech I cannot make
But if I could, the things I'd say, would long, long hours take!

For I was born to fill a need, in answer to a callAnd those who brought me forth to live, have named me Kingdom Hall.

So I've a royal name you see, and royal was my birthI'm here for service to a King, I hope I prove my worth!

I want so much to be just right. To suit the need I fillTo aid in service of Kingdom Truth, to people of good will

Oh give me lips and mouth and tongue, and let me tell to all,The reason why I'm standing here, why I'm called a Kingdom Hall

But what's a Kingdom Hall you ask? You mean you haven't heard? Why I'm the place where all may come, and freely learn God's word

No, I'm no church, don't get me wrong, I have no pews or steepleAnd never will collection plates be used to milk the people

The things you'll hear within my walls will not be false traditionYou'll never hear that Hell is hot, for that's a contradiction!

Nor will the pagan idea of God, who's three in oneEver be preached beneath my roof; such doctrines you should shun

But rather, here inside my doors you'll learn things reliableBecause they'll be taken from a truthful source, God's word, the Holy Bible!

You'll learn how Jehovah God intends to rid the earth of all it's woes;Destroy it's sorrow, sin and death; all mankind's deadly foes

Then in their place will blossom forth, a world of truth and loveAn earth where God's will shall be done; just as in heaven above

There'll be no sickness, pain or death, no tear to mar the smileNo one will then bring grief and strife; no Devil will beguile

But those who live in the new system will humbly bow the kneeBefore Jehovah God who reigns in Grand Supremacy

This is part of what you'll hear within these walls of mineBut more than that you'll learn just how to make this light to shine!

And that's the point I want to stress, which may seem rather oddThat I'm not built just as a place in which to worship God

So here it is you'll learn of Jehovah God; to know what is his willTo learn what he requires of you, his laws how to fulfill

To worship God means more than sit and listen to God's wordIt means to act; to serve; to preach, to all who have not heard

Outside my doors, amidst the world, you must hold forth the lightYou must apply what you here learn, to worship God aright

How great my joy I want to shout; My privelege is so rareYou other buildings of the earth, cannot with me compare

If I could speak, I'd raise my voice and make all buildings knowThat my importance excels theirs, for from me truth will flow

So listen, All you structures proud, you giants of steel and stoneYour tops may scrape a scuddling cloud or soar where Eagles have flown

Your cornerstone may have been laid by worldly men of fameBut you can not boast, That you've been made to praise Jehovah's name!!!

      A REGULAR PIONEER
I've set upon an arduous course,
      But, oh joy I'll see,
Jehovah accepted, I'm a regular pioneer,
Lord, here I am, send me!
      Many prayers have I supplicated,
Jehovah, can I see this through?
I make my vow and dedication,
Your will I want to do
      Notes and scriptures about pioneering
      Coincidence I would find
      Those encouraging talks and experiences
      Were indelibly on my mind
My goal was set, a schedule, too.
Boy, that was hard for me
      But Jehovah knows my weaknesses
He's pulled me through to be
A good for nothing slave I am,
Only did what I was told.
      Declared the Kingdom Good News,
      Be courageous, firm and bold.
So, a point I made to work with those
      Who chose the best career
Nowhere else would they rather be
Than serving as a regular pioneer
We know the sheep are out there yet,
      The angels will direct
Please bless the ministry, my God,
From the wicked one he'll protect
Oh, what joy at heart we feel
When a meek one does agree,
That there has to be a better life,
      And start a Bible study.
What patience it does take for us,
      So many not at home,
The listening ears are getting few
But remember we are not alone
      Encouragement from one another
      Experiences to share
Such a joyful praises and happy faces
      All God's true servant's wear.
So if you have the pioneer spirit
      For a day, a month, a year,
You'll see how rich Jehovah blesses
      In being a regular pioneer.
