JW Grandparents Who Shun Children Should Likewise be Banned from Contacting Grandchildren

If your parents shun you.... PLEASE, PLEASE also force a no contact policy between your JW parents and their grandchildren.

This is the ONLY way for them to understand that disrespecting you is not allowed and so they can also experience how hurtful their behavior is.

Have any of you already done this?

I think they often forget the "Stop Judging LEST THEE BE JUDGED" commandment. Especially the latter part.

I am beginning to believe that ALL the Scriptures in the Bible, talking about how the "love of the greater number will cool off", and in the end times, a wide range of cruelties will be abundant, that

This is a case of being "righteous overmuch" or "self-righteous" and "haughty" like the Pharisees. Paul put the ideas together in Romans quoted above: (Romans 1:28-2:1) 28 And just as they did

I often chalk up your statements as hyperbole-laden rants. But this I must agree with whole-heartedly. One can make an argument that our process is actually Biblical, but then Jesus said it was OK to

The uproar needs to get louder on BOTH sides.

If JW parents want to live in an unloving world of shunning and "holier than thou" judgementalism... then they need to experience the fruitage of thier works.

There will be more and more conventions of gray haired seniors with no family to take care of them or even grandchildren that will remember them.

Their fault.

p.s. - We are already seeing the drying up of Watchtower funds, selling of thier KH's and branches for $ and the lack of baptismal candidates in most of the world.

Has anyone ever considered that this could be a desired outcome?

Which outcome?

  • WTS running out of money?
  • Lack of baptismal candidates?
  • WTS desire to have DF'd children not allow grandparents to see their grandchildren?
  • Grandparents desire never to see any grandchildren who are children of their own DF'd sons and daughters?

You know, I think that this says it all.

The disfellowshipping provision, though hard on those who refuse to yield to it, is a principled moral stand based on biblical values. Possible cut-off with the grandchildren is a great tragedy, to be avoided if at all possible.

The response Jack advocates is about himself not being disrespected, and the grandchildren are to be used as pawns to that end.

Yes. That says it all.

Well there are 3 types of Excommunication being done by all, for one being done by such in what is seen below, regardless of faith:

  • We shouldn’t excommunicate anyone, because it’s not merciful.
  • We should excommunicate, because we want to purify the Church of the damned.
  • We should excommunicate, because it’s merciful to sinners.

Expelling and Shunning are Church abilities given and or instructed, hence if you really understood Matthew 16, and what Binding and Loosening is.

Only 1 is correct, and the other 2 are incorrect, so pick your cookie wisely and perhaps on Judgement Day it can be revealed of who is actually right and who is in the wrong.

That being said, Excommunication operates Church/Religious ties not Family ties, although family members of said church will feel a bit uneasy, The Shunning Command, of which is Biblical by the way, it only in application of Church members to the excommunicated, again, an uneasy family, but over time they will help the excommunicated return to the church, moreover, those of the church will at some point make an effort, granted on how great the sin is and or what it actually is.

Any grounds met under the realm of Interfaith and or of attacking ones faith lands to become those of Apostasy, perhaps disgruntled, and will make any Church comebacks look like a very bad turn around in an NFL game, when you are the one losing at this point, thus making it harder and more of a challenge to return, and now, if it comes to the point you are boxing with God, well... We know who will win in one swing, and it won't be you.

It can only become worse if you make it worse, in this sense, if you try to to do away with a spider by means of fire in your own home, and things start to catch the flame, it will only be worse for you, not the spider who invaded your home, as if we can already see real life examples: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/man-burn-spider-house-down-blowtorch-tuscon-arizona-a8005991.html

As an ultimate trump card of congregation discipline, to be applied when lesser measures have failed, is disfellowshipping cruel? It certainly could be, and increasingly is, argued that way. Undeniably it triggers pain. That said, suffice it to say that no group has been able maintain its deeply-held moral principles through decades of time without it.

I vividly remember circuit ministers of my faith saying: “Fifty years ago, the difference between Jehovah’s Witnesses and people in general was doctrinal. Conduct on moral matters, sexual or  otherwise, was pretty much the same.” Today the chasm is huge. Can internal discipline not be a factor?

The book 'Secular Faith - How Culture Has Trumped Religion in American Politics' attempts to reassure its secular audience through examining the changing moral stands of churches on five key issues. The book points out that today's church members have more in common with atheists than they do with members of their own denominations of decades past. Essentially, the reassurance to those who would mold societal views is: 'Don't worry about it. They will come around. They always do. It may take a bit longer, but it is inevitable.' Jehovah's Witnesses have thwarted this model by not coming around. Can internal discipline not be a factor?

In the case of Jehovah’s Witnesses, members voluntarily sign on to a program that reinforces goals they have already chosen. Sometimes it is not enough to say you want to diet. You must padlock the fridge. It is not an infringement of freedom to those who have willingly signed aboard. They are always free to attempt to diet some place where they do not padlock the fridge. Experience shows, however, that not padlocking the fridge results in overweight people, for not everyone has extraordinary willpower.

If people want to padlock the fridge but they can’t do it because malcontents forbid that course and they get big and fat, as in the United States, for example, where the level of obesity is breathtaking, how is that not a violation of their individual rights? It is all a difference over the basic nature of people and what makes them tick.

WT teaching said that JW members must avoid any kind of contact with ex JW. Even with family members, especially if they are not living under same roof. For those family members who do living under same roof WT give instruction "how family ties continue" (this is ridiculous,  isn't???:))))))) but "faithful JW family members will not talking about "spiritual things" with unfaithful (DF or DA family member), because Bible said so. And now we have irony situation in Bible events. God and Jesus have spoke with DF/DA angel aka devil. And it was not everyday small talking ("because family ties continue" :))) again ) but they are talking about very important spiritual things. About Job (brother in faith and his situation) or about some Bible principles and verses (Jesus and devil in dessert).

Well, is there something that makes people feel confused on issue of "shunning" ?? Or am i only, single person in the whole world who don't understand  why would God and Jesus forbidding to JW members talking with ex members when They were not using same WT standard in examples presented in verses down?

6 One day the heavenly beings* came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan* also came among them. 7The Lord said to Satan,* ‘Where have you come from?’ Satan* answered the Lord, ‘From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it.’ 8The Lord said to Satan,* ‘Have you considered my servant Job? ........

4. Then Jesus was led by the spirit up into the wilderness to be tempted+ by the Devil.+ 2  After he had fasted for 40 days and 40 nights, he felt hungry. 3  And the Tempter+ approached and said to him: “If you are a son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.” 4  But he answered: “It is written: ‘Man must live, not on bread alone, but on every word that comes from Jehovah’s*mouth.’”+5  Then the Devil took him along into the holy city,+ and he stationed him on the battlement* of the temple+ 6  and said to him: “If you are a son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written: ‘He will give his angels a command concerning you,’ and, ‘They will carry you on their hands, so that you may not strike your foot against a stone.’”+ 7  Jesus said to him: “Again it is written: ‘You must not put Jehovah* your God to the test.’”+8  Again the Devil took him along to an unusually high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.+ 9  And he said to him: “All these things I will give you if you fall down and do an act of worship to me.” 10  Then Jesus said to him: “Go away, Satan! For it is written: ‘It is Jehovah* your God you must worship,+ and it is to him alone you must render sacred service.’”+11  Then the Devil left him,+ and look! angels came and began to minister to him.+
