If you are a pregnant woman considering adoption for your child, it’s reasonable to assume that you’re at a stressful point in your life. Maybe you don’t believe you can give your baby the life he or she deserves, or maybe you just don’t wish to be a parent at this time. Whatever the reason, one factor may in particular may be causing you stress at this point, and that’s finding the perfect family to raise your child.
If you’re a Jehovah’s Witness looking to “give her baby up” for adoption, it may be particularly important to you that your baby be placed with a family who shares your beliefs. In fact, one of your first thoughts when considering this path might be, “I want one of Jehovah’s Witnesses to adopt my baby.”
American Adoptions works with families of all religious backgrounds and can work with you to make sure your child is raised in your ideal home. Many women who are looking for a Jehovah’s Witness family to adopt a baby do so because it’s important to them that their child be raised with some of the following principles that aren’t frequently practiced by other religions:
The family does not accept blood transfusions. Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that both the Old and New Testaments say to abstain from taking blood and go to doctors who are able to practice medicine and surgery without giving blood transfusions. The family believes the Bible outlines different dating guidelines than common modern day practices. Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that dating should only be for those old enough for marriage, that Witnesses should only date baptized Witnesses, and that sexual immorality or “unclean” behavior should be avoided. Couples should also avoid being alone in tempting situations. The family believes that the dead are unconscious. Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that someone who dies ceases to exist, although resurrection from God is possible. The family does not celebrate birthdays or holidays like Christmas or Easter. Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that birthday celebrations displease God, and that Christmas and Eastercelebrations do not align with Biblical teachings. The power of friendship gets stronger with age and may even be more important than family relationships, indicates new research by a Michigan State University scholar. In a pair of studies involving nearly 280,000 people, William Chopik found that friendships become increasingly important to one’s happiness and health across the lifespan. Not only that, but in older adults, friendships are actually a stronger predictor of health and happiness than relationships with family members.“Friendships become even more important as we age,” said Chopik, assistant professor of psychology. “Keeping a few really good friends around can make a world of difference for our health and well-being. So it’s smart to invest in the friendships that make you happiest.”

25 "Therefore, now that you have put away deceit, each one of you speak truth with his neighbor, because we are members belonging to one another." (Eph.4:25) NWT

"Most of the field service presentations she learned growing up will not work in their new territory, Brittany told me. They are considered rude. You can’t just launch into what you’ve come to talk about. First you must inquire about their family, and tell about yours. You have to tell about your children, for family is very important. When she tells them she doesn’t have children, they are concerned. Of course, part of hospitality is to find out why. They smile. ‘You married late in life;’ that is the reason. When they find that it is not, they realize you are on your second marriage. When that conclusion, too, proves false, they are very saddened: you lost your children in some tragic accident. Then they grow very still when you tell them you did not. They have finally discerned the true reason, but it is almost too delicate to bring up, though they do anyway - something is wrong with your equipment. Brittany’s student has drawn her a chart to help her understand how many children she should have at her age."

      Fancy a Fungus?
IN ANCIENT Egypt the Pharaohs prized mushrooms as delicacies. They became the preserve of the royal family.
The Romans called mushrooms food of the gods and served them only on special occasions.
The ancient Greeks held mushroom feasts and believed that mushrooms empowered their warriors for battle.
Today, however, mushrooms are not just for the elite. People all over the world enjoy eating them!
What about you? If you fancy mushrooms, do you know what you are eating? Are mushrooms animals, vegetables, or something else? How are they grown? Are they nutritious? And if you see mushrooms in the wild, what should you do?
Noel, a burly Australian, is a microbiologist and mushroom expert. He studied mushroom cultivation in several countries before returning to Australia to grow them commercially.
“Mushrooms are fungi, a family of organisms that includes mildews and molds,” he explains.
“Biologists formerly thought that fungi were plants, but we now know that they are very different from plants.
“For example, fungi do not make their food through photosynthesis as do nearly all plants. They can grow in the dark.
Their bodies secrete powerful enzymes that convert organic material into basic nutrients, which they absorb as food.
This unique digestive process also distinguishes fungi from animals. Since fungi are neither plants nor animals, biologists now classify them in a realm of their own—the fungi kingdom.”
“In the wild, mature mushrooms release millions of tiny spores that mix with other mushroom spores and germinate,” Noel continues. “If the . . . spores land in a cold, damp place with plenty of food, they can grow into new mushrooms.
Commercial mushroom growers aim to replicate this process using controlled conditions to improve crop yields and quality.”
It can be very dangerous to gather mushrooms in the wild, however.
The death cap mushroom (Amanita phalloides), among others, closely resembles edible varieties yet is deadly. So follow the rule: Never eat mushrooms from the wild unless a mushroom expert identifies them as safe to eat!
Of course, commercially grown varieties are safe to consume. They are, in fact, delicious treats that were once reserved for royalty!

    • Another important piece of context about famines in China even before Mao was in power, based on Wikipedia's list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_famines_in_China   1810, 1811, 1846, 1849     Unknown (45 million decrease, unknown how many emigrated or avoided census to evade taxes)[4]   1850–1873   Nian Rebellion, Taiping Rebellion and drought Primarily caused by famine, lower li
    • I appreciate the thoughtful response. You hit upon the basic problem of what we can "know" for certain, especially about a topic for which the waters have definitely been muddied. The very fact that "experts" give ranges from 10 million to 40+ million deaths, already shows there is huge margin of error involved. And the range of reasons for it are inconsistent, too. (Varying amounts of human error vs. drought, or willful disregard for life, or even murderous intent.) I put the number 4
    • When you see such shenanigans in the present human interactions of entirely different spheres, you don’t assume that you are seeing it for the first time ever. Rather, you figure that this is but the latest example of what humans will do in pushing their own point of view. Thus, everything you say is plausible. Exaggeration, over-promotion, running the other side off the road, muddying the waters so the other side will give up, outright denial, seeing only what one wants to see: these are the st
    • There's a 1960's era joke about a family in their car just pulling out of their driveway in sweltering heat with the all the windows up. The kids ask why they can't roll down the windows to get some air, and the father says: "What? And let the neighbors know we don't have air conditioning?" This reminds me of one of the claimed blunders of Mao Zedung, who continued to export wheat during a famine so as not to appear weak to the rest of the world. (And Stalin similarly wouldn't import wheat
    • Mao, while alive, had already purged Deng twice. In doing so, Mao sullied his reputation by bringing up past disloyalty and an unexplained military defection, and asked Deng to self-admit his own (Deng's) failings. He had been critical of Mao, but had also been used by Mao and the party for his leadership abilities. After Mao, the "Gang of Four" wanted to continue Mao's legacy and leadership style, and thought of Deng as a political threat to their continuance. Deng's choice to gain political po
    • Why did it do this? Why not proceed as though building on the fine foundation that had been laid? This smacks a lot of like “putting lipstick on a pig.”
    • There was one more point I should have highlighted from the article I referenced above. Based on the time period of the Great Leap Forward it is useful to make some comparisons with other nations around this time. Even now, I was reading in an online newspaper from India that says they count about 4,000 children a day in India who die from malnutrition. I don't know how accurate this is, but it is admitted in a globally-facing paper where one might expect a positive spin on Indian news.

      1 Samuel 2 : 1-10
Ma bouche s’ouvre toute grande contre mes ennemis,
      Arrêtez de parler avec orgueil ;
      À Jéhovah appartiennent les fondations de la terre ;
      Jéhovah anéantira ceux qui combattent contre lui ;
