"The number of teenagers we believe are now using these products...has reached an epidemic proportion," FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb

.

  • Per the CDC, of the 3.6 million middle- and high-schoolers who identify as tobacco users, 2.1 million (or ~58%) used e-cigs.

So here's what Gottlieb's doing: The FDA told major e-cig manufacturers (Juul, Logic, MarkTen, blu, and Vuse) they have 60 days to come up with strategies to address use among teenagers.

And if they don't...regulators

Juul, which has captured ~72% of the $2.3 billion e-cig market, says it advertises to adults looking to quit smoking. But Gottlieb's take? "I am willing to narrow the off-ramp for adults to close the on-ramp for kids."

Sadly I've noticed there are more teenagers using this kind of things. They proudly post about at Instagram as if they just found the cure for the AIDS or doing another great job. Boys to prove they are cool, real men, fearless and girls to please these boys who date as boyfriends :(

But new research suggests vaping increases the level of DNA-damaging compounds. If cells cannot repair DNA damage the risk of cancer can increase, say scientists.
The study analysed the saliva and mouth cells of five e-cigarette users before and after a 15-minute vaping session. Researchers found increased levels of toxic chemicals formaldehyde, acrolein and methylglyoxal

Electronic cigarettes, the popular vapor substitute to traditional tobacco cigarettes, will soon be banned from public indoor spaces in New York State — just like the real thing.
Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Monday signed a bill to ban vaping anywhere cigarettes are already prohibited, like workplaces, restaurants and bars. The ban goes into effect in 30 days.
E-cigs, as the products that vaporize a variety of oils into an inhalant are generally known, were added to the state’s Clean Indoor Air Act this summer by the State Assembly, and the measure was approved by the Senate. The original act has been around since 2003, when smoking tobacco products in public indoor areas was first banned in the state, one of the country’s first such measures.
