Basically everyone gets a second chance except for the poor unfortunate souls alive when Armageddon comes.

So when Jesus said "Father forgive them for they do not know what they are doing"

Who was Jesus asking God to forgive. Was it the Romans ? Was it the Israelites that shouted for him to be put to death ?

Was it the criminals either side of him ? Who ?

Matthew 5:44 makes it clear, and regarding Jesus' own words, mainly what can be read in Luke 23:34, for it is referenced, Acts 7:58-60 regarding Stephen, who appealed, who was stoned himself, but prayed to God in Jesus' name to forgive them. Plus we see a fulfilling of Scripture, mainly if we read Psalms 22:18, Matthew 27:35, Mark 15:24 and John 19:23, 24.

The lesson in Jesus praying to his God and Father to forgive such ones is because he, Jesus, freely forgives from his own heart, something of which his disciples and followers are suppose to follow when taking the Christ's example, hence, Ephesians 4:32 and what we read about Stephen, for the religious leaders who took stones against him.

Also it was the Jews who plotted against him, eventually had the opportunity to do so, thus getting people to go against him, the Christ - those of earthly Jerusalem who rejected the Christ, on the other side of the spectrum, not all Jews were against Jesus.

@Querotevernoparaiso is referring to those who reject God and surely anyone before the New Covenant. Jesus was born very very later on and when he got older, when he died, the New Covenant of which he had spoken of with his disciples, came into effect.

That is why i think we are a long way from Armageddon. I think life earthwide has to get massively worse so that everyone will have to decide which way they are going, serving God or against Him.

@Jack Ryan Only the wicked and those who are for lawlessness will succumb to God's Judgement, as with those when Jesus has the scepter in his hand and eventually hands it back to God his Father.

As SM has cited, Luke 23:(33)-34 indicates the ones that Jesus was speaking about included specifically those who nailed him to the stake and those who cast lots for his garments.

"And when they got to the place called Skull, they nailed him to the stake there alongside the criminals, one on his right and one on his left. But Jesus was saying: “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” Furthermore, they cast lots to distribute his garments."

Jewish leaders had a different destiny, Matt 23:33. Those influenced by them may have recourse to Jehovah's mercy. The evildoers? They were not immediately involved, although one of them missed a great opportunity.

Then both exegesis would be correct since both alive and resurrected would experience the same thing after Armageddon.

A simple biblical application for believers of a righteous God, Romans 3:4-6

When you read the Scriptures before the words uttered by Jesus, you see accounts of people who have been destroyed by God's command because they do not accept His warnings.

As logic is also true: DO YOU REALLY THINK THEY WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO LIVE AGAIN JUST BECAUSE OF THE WORDS SPOKEN BY JESUS?

When Jesus uttered these words to His Father, was He speaking of whom?

Of those who had already been sentenced by their Father, me or you or themselves?

As logic is also true: DO NOT YOU THINK THOSE WORDS WERE TO THAT NATION THAT HAD JUST REJECTED HIM?  (But Jesus asked the Father to give them one more chance!)

Do you really think that reading the Scripture does away with those words spoken by Jesus?

That all people have forgiveness?

SO WHY IS IT THAT GOOD CONDITIONS IN A PARADISAL PLACE HAVE NOT YET COME?

AND THE TEACHINGS OF THE APOSTLES? DO YOU FORGOT?

As logic is also true: If my writing in Portuguese is not the best, what will my English be like? Kkkk

admin I think I'll be warned about trying to express myself in English

James Thomas Rook Jr.  This is my Portuguese mood.?

I suspect @admin wants nothing to do with this and is sorry he ever stuck his toe in the water. He turns over everything of religious bent to his assistant @The Librarian, who does the best she can. (the old hen)

@James Thomas Rook Jr. is another thing entirely. He never saw a fight he did not like and I half-imagine that he would apply himself to learn Portuguese if need be just so he can go there are argue with you.

Well on here it is sooo easy to just click 'translate' and there you have it, Portuguese to English.

It's more difficult to translate American English to English English though :)

@JOHN BUTLER At least it isn't that bad. I once had to deal with someone who went by name, in all caps, THE YIDDISH GHOST, even his avatar is ghost-like, when he says something it is always in Yiddish and when you translate his words and message is often cryptic and riddle based at times backwards or purposely misspelled in order for you to figure out, he was a Bible reading Agnostic and had quite a lot to say. A verse he often uses when he thinks he confuses or bested someone is this, 1 Corinthians 14:33. He shares a similar view of the early church as me and many others, but his is a bit more extreme and focused on Caesarea Philippi, mainly regarding the church.

I could probably dig up a screenshot of this guy when I have time.
