More Russian Jehovah’s Witnesses get asylum in Norway

Recommended Posts

Norwegian immigration directorate (UDI) confirms that more Jehovah’s Witnesses from Russia are granted asylum in the Nordic country.

They seek protection and fear persecution because of their religion, UDI spokeswoman Oda Gilleberg says to newspaper Vårt Land.

There has been a growing number of asylum seekers from the religious community in Russia over the last years. In 2009, a total of nine Russian got Norwegian asylum and some of these were Jehovah’s Witnesses, Aftenposten reports.

In 2018, police in Murmansk started a series of raids against the religious community in the region.

More than a thousand people are now seeking asylum in several European countries.

Russian authorities in 2017 categorized the religious community as «extremist» and banned it in the country. Since then, up to 300 Russian Jehova’s Witnesses have been charged and taken to court, the community informs.

The Jews, Jehovah's Witnesses, and many others  during World War II prayed to God for salvation, not understanding that FREEDOM means many hardships, and death as the price that often or always must be paid .... and there are no exceptions .... EVER.

The last time Jehovah God tweaked the global experiment that is the human race was about 2,000 years ago.

Similarly, when we are being chastised into prison, and later into death, we have two choices:

1.) Rely on the prayers of eight million and more Brothers and Sisters for your salvation, to Jehovah God who according to all non-fantasy hard data has not interfered with ANY person, nation or organization in any way whatsoever, in modern times, or

2.) Sell everything you own at ten kopeks on the ruble (ten cents on the dollar), and get out of town, fast.

Otherwise ... FREEDOM is just a null-word, with no meaning.

......... that is how the Universe REALLY works.

The Jews tried to hold onto their property, and real estate, but "left town fast" ....  up the chimney of a crematorium.

That is the preamble of what is going on in the Russian Federation, now !

@James Thomas Rook Jr.  You have a great, and realistic, sense of humour.

However, the 1st century Christians were persecuted but i don't remember reading about them running off to foreign lands to hide.

The scripture at Acts 5 v 29 comes to mind.

In answer Peter and the other apostles said: “We must obey God as ruler rather than men.

So, a question arises. Should these 'brothers and sisters' now run off and hide, or should they suffer the persecution ?

It's a bit like what John Butler said about the GB when relating it to people that were destroyed by God in bible times. It is so easy to read about God killing people, such as at 2 Kings 19 v 35

    Hello guest!

That night the angel of the LORD went out and put to death a hundred and eighty-five thousand in the Assyrian camp. When the people got up the next morning--there were all the dead bodies!

And we can read about how God killed the Egyptian Army, and about the Flood of Noah's day.

BUT when it comes to NOW, it is a totally different matter. This is where TRUE FAITH comes alive. The faith in the resurrection. But true faith can only result from TRUTH, and unfortunately JW Org does not have TRUTH.

As for me I would not suffer persecution for the sake of JW Org. It seems that many in Russia feel the same way.

Here I am, 1:30 in the morning, waiting for a long distance phone call from the planet Remulac on the "Big Phone", eating raw eggs and drinking six paxks of beer .. and  I had the strangest recollection.....

Jesus, Mary and his Stepdad Joseph ran off to Egypt to hide for a couple of years, while Roman bad guys were killing babies in Israel.

Remember the convention theme "Follow Jesus"?

I think Joseph and family acted under instruction from God, not man. It was for obvious reasons too.

Matthew 2 v 13 & 14.

After they had departed, look! Jehovah’s angel appeared to Joseph in a dream,

    Hello guest!
saying: “Get up, take the young child and his mother and flee to Egypt, and stay there until I give you word, for Herod is about to search for the young child to kill him.” 14  So Joseph got up and by night took along the young child and the child’s mother and went into Egypt.

BUT I'm sure I've seen at JW assemblies this idea of facing the 'enemy'

What's that scripture about 'Stand up tall and see the destruction of your enemies' (something like that)

However Did first century Christians RUN AWAY ?

Should JWs run away ?

Isn't it about being able to suffer persecution for your faith in God and your love of God ?

Or were they 'inspired of God' to flee to Norway ?

But seriously, if this is the expected thing to happen to JWs earthwide, then what is the recommended course of action from your 'leaders' ?

Personally I'm a coward and it would take a lot of answered prayers for me to stand firm against physical persecution.  So should JWs pray and stand firm, or turn and run ?

This is what the Lord says—
your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:
“I am the Lord your God,
who teaches you what is best for you,
who directs you in the way you should go.
If only you had paid attention to my commands,
your peace would have been like a river,
your well-being like the waves of the sea.

Your descendants would have been like the sand,
    your children like its numberless grains;
their name would never be blotted out
nor destroyed from before me.”  Isa 48:17-19  The entire chapter is well worth reading

It seems quite clear that “fleeing” from those who rob us of eternal life by their false teaching is the utmost importance.   Matt 7:15-20

“The Spirit is the one who gives life. The flesh doesn’t help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.”  John 6:63

We’re aware that saving our ‘skin’, means nothing in the long run, if we are tolerant of men who continually lead us down the wrong spiritual path.  Matt 10:39   We may escape a bayonet for now, but it only buys a little time before we face eternal judgment before Christ.

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in your name, drive out demons in your name, and do many miracles in your name?’ 23 Then I will announce to them, ‘I never knew you. Depart from me, you lawbreakers!’ Matt 7:21-23

JWs pride themselves on “preaching the good news of the Kingdom”… prophesying that it will come.  This message is based on dates and ever-changing lies, the need to enter an organization holding the promise of salvation, yet is rife with child abuse, and the insatiable desire of its leaders to build. (which, the *Freemasons are known for) Luke 4:5-7     If JWs could dissect what message they are sending, they would see the destructive course they lead people to, and what they are also adhering to.

Losing our eternal life by tolerating the organization’s lies is the authentic reality that each JW is facing.  Jesus judges us according to our obedience to HIS word, not by the words of men. John 8:51; Matt 15:9

“So when you see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in the holy place” (let the reader understand), 16 “then those in Judea must flee to the mountains.”  Matt 24:15,16

We have a repeat of this event, only on the spiritual level as told to us in Revelation. Standing in the holy place, the Temple of God, are elder “Gentiles” who “rule” over the Temple “living stones” – “Israel”.   1 Pet 2:5,9; 1 Cor 3:16,17

Rev 11:1,2 – “I was given a reed like a measuring rod and was told, “Go and measure the temple of God and the altar, with its worshipers. But exclude the outer court; do not measure it, because it has been given to the Gentiles. They will trample on the holy city for 42 months.”

The “Gentile” elder body ruling over the anointed, is “rebellion”. Ezek 44:6-9 It is the “northern army” to come upon “Israel” and all with them.  GB David Splane left out pertinent scriptures when explaining the locust as the nation's military forces in the world.  He failed, either out of his own blindness or through an act of deceit, to reveal Joel chapter 1 and 2:12-17, which explains the need for God’s people to repent of their sins.  He briefly mentions the “captivity” that comes upon God’s people – captivity!!  But, JWs believe also, the fallacy that they are safe in the organization and will survive Armageddon!! (1 Thess 5:3)   What a twisted message JWs gullibly swallow down.  And if the twisted message is from the lips of their leaders, it is the leaders themselves who hold JWs captive, using DECEIT.  Deceit is the weapon that Satan uses to take down "Israel" in the last days.  2 Cor 10:3,4; Col 2:8; Rev 13:10; 16:13,14; 20:7-10

Leave them; they are blind guides. If the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.”  Matt 15:14

I so wish JWs would read all of Joel chapters 1-3, to see the intent of this “army”…and why it is allowed to come upon God’s people in the last days.  Don’t let the GB select the scriptures for you!  Don't let the GB tell you that this locust army is NOT the same as Revelation's locust/scorpions!

2 Thess 2:3,4 – “Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God.”

They have been given the authority by the governing rulers, to judge another’s spirituality as acceptable or not acceptable before God – before our judge Jesus Christ returns.

The elders…

“standing where it do not belong”  Mark 13:14

 “in” God’s Temple,  1 Cor 3:16,17; 2 Cor 6:14-16

ruling God’s Temple members  Rev 13:1,2,5-7

judging God’s chosen servants Rev 13:14-17

“trampling” their existence as the priesthood of God. Dan 8:10; 9:27; Matt 24:14,15

So yes, there are specific times outlined by God and Christ when we are to flee.  Now, is one of those times.  Luke 17:26-37; Rev 18:4-8

That is what is called a "binary question" which has a tendency to be grossly unfair.  I presumes that the only choice on one side of the equation is to pray .... and the other only choice is to "run".

It's like the famous example .. "Do you STILL beat your wife".

It is also a matter of credibility, which is very important .. as there are many well meaning buffoons who with the very best of intentions, and the very highest known motives, will give advice that is rooted in their agenda, whatever that might be ... and NOT common sense reality.

To the best of my knowledge and belief .... and I have been paying close attention for the past 50 years and more ... is that the Society and all it's counsel is SUPPOSED to be based on the Bible, but seriously lacks basic common sense.

Never ONCE have they been right about anything in the real world.

If they did not have an unlimited and constantly flowing waterfall of "Free Money", they would have imploded, years ago.

This is extremely important, because if I lean on my own understanding ... which gets better and better over time ... if I am wrong, it is only I who have to pay the price, be it large or small.

If the "Society" gives advice, about such common sense matters, and I follow that advice ( and their track record is zero for 1000, or whatever the real number is ...), I STILL have to pay the price, no matter how small or large ... AND THEY PAY NO PRICE WHATSOEVER.

If they shared the consequences, I might be more inclined to take a "leap of faith", but the record shows that if it all blows up, they will weasel word what they said, deny saying it in words so carefully crafted that it appears to be MY FAULT, and continue with the practice.

Leaning on my own understanding, of course can get me dead, dead, dead .... but so can leaning on theirs..

"STUFF HAPPENS".

Sorry, bad spelling.

Lexham Bible - “But when you see the abomination of desolation standing where it should not be” (let the one who reads understand), “then those in Judea must flee to the mountains!”

1 Chron 13:19 - "Did you not drive out the priests of YHVH, the sons of Aaron, the Levites? *Have you not made for yourselves priests like all the peoples of the lands? All who come to be consecrated for priestly servicewith a young bull or seven rams becomes a priest of what is not a god.”

(*claiming clergy penitent privilege when convenient in the court systems)

TEACHING#1

"Representing the royal priesthood are appointed elders, who serve in positions of responsibility in congregations of Jehovah’s people around the earth. These men deserve our respect and wholehearted support, whether they are of the anointed or not. Why? Because, through his holy spirit, Jehovah has appointed the older men to their positions. (

) How can that be?

Rather than challenge their authority, we truly appreciate our hardworking elders! w02 8/1 p. 13-14

TEACHING #2

"Addressing anointed Christians, Peter wrote: “You are ‘a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for special possession, that you should declare abroad the excellencies’ of the one that called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” (

A ROYAL PRIESTHOOD BRINGS BENEFITS TO ALL MANKIND

14. Where would the royal priesthood serve?

14 Where would those in the new covenant serve? On earth, where, as a group, they would serve as a priesthood, representing Jehovah to people by ‘declaring abroad his excellencies’ and providing spiritual food. (

Which teaching is adhered to?  The one that benefits them the most, Teaching #1  They have driven out the royal priesthood and created their own, "like all the peoples of the lands".

Matthew 10:16: "Jesus said that it is a good idea to flee.  Look! I am sending you out as sheep among wolves; so prove yourselves cautious as serpents and yet innocent as doves. 17  Be on your guard against men, for they will hand you over to local courts and they will scourge you in their synagogues. 18  And you will be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a witness to them and the nations. 19  However, when they hand you over, do not become anxious about how or what you are to speak, for what you are to speak will be given you in that hour; 20  for the ones speaking are not just you, but it is the spirit of your Father that speaks by you. 21  Further, brother will hand brother over to death, and a father his child, and children will rise up against parents and will have them put to death. 22  And you will be hated by all people on account of my name, but the one who has endured to the end will be saved.23  When they persecute you in one city, flee to another; for truly I say to you, you will by no means complete the circuit of the cities of Israel until the Son of man arrives.

And when Stephen was killed the Bible says: "Saul, for his part, approved of his murder. On that day great persecution arose against the congregation that was in Jerusalem; all except the apostles were scattered throughout the regions of Ju·deʹa and Sa·marʹi·a. (Acts 8:1)

So, it is wise to be cautious and escape when possible. But if one is caught despite all, then it is important to be courageous and firm in the faith.

And have they been right about much spiritually ?

But James, you and many others still follow them, still go to conventions, still put money in their pot. Still listen to the words of the GB and read the words of the Writing Dept.

Why ?  If, as you know, they are not guided by God's Holy spirit, then isn't it all just a waste of your time ? Of every JWs time ?  And those people in Russia are suffering for nothing. Just because they serve the GB and it's Org.

Well in my opinion the GB have much blood on their hands and have no chance of being Anointed servants of God at all.

Yes.... but here is the way I look at it ... I am also an American, a citizen of the United States ... and as we have seen this past week .. fully a half of Americans (less one Senator), are certifiably evil, insane, mad as a hatter, full of hate and vitriol, and obsessed with invoking the principles of Justice, without allowing it for another, willing to convict in the absence of law, because they despise someone, and do their best to destroy them ... under color of law.

Does that make me less of an American, or less dedicated to the principles of Justice, Truth, and the American Way?

NO

Same thing.

Either you get that.... or you don't.

Dear James,

I just don’t get it .  No one but the WT is telling you that an earthly organization is vital to worship God.    The Bible never mentions it.

Jesus was a renegade for truth.  It was simple.  People either followed him because they loved truth and life, or they didn’t.  Paul was a Roman citizen, but he followed Christ.  He never bowed down to men and false teachings.

"But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent's cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ."  2 Cor 11:3

Not that my opinion matters.  I speak solely from the heart.

Several Russian citizens have sought asylum in Norway due to religious persecution. Norwegian authorities confirm that they have accepted applications from Russian Jehovah’s Witnesses.

“Yes, there have been asylum applications in 2019 from Russian nationals seeking protection for fear of persecution because of their religion, mainly Jehovah’s Witnesses,” UDI communications adviser Oda Gilleberg told Vårt Land.

She says there has been a slight increase in applicants who claim to be Jehovah’s Witnesses from Russia in 2018 and 2019. Last year, nine Russians received protection under the asylum law. Some of these were Jehovah’s Witnesses, the UDI confirms.

About 175,000 people in Russia belong to Jehovah’s Witnesses. The organization was banned by a Supreme Court ruling in 2017. The order stamped Jehovah’s Witnesses as an extremist organization, and the translation of the Bible, the New World, is considered extreme literature and is forbidden.

The Helsinki Committee points out that members of Jehovah’s Witnesses are being persecuted in Russia and, among other things, restrictions have been placed on owning property.

Last year, 18 Jehovah’s Witnesses were convicted in the country of participating in an extremist organization.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (UD) states that Norway is concerned about the situation of the religious group.

“Over time, the Foreign Ministry has had close contact with Jehovah’s Witnesses about the situation of their fellow believers in Russia. We are therefore well acquainted with the situation and are concerned about how this group is being treated,” writes State Secretary Marianne Hagen in an email to Vårt Land.

Let me give you an illustration:

After two pitchers of beer, many years ago, a friend and I sat down to a lobster dinner.

I had never even seen a lobster, much less one on a plate .... and it was a WHOLE lobster, with its beady eyes staring at me.

Being totally ignorant, and sloshed, I started at the head.

It was the WORST thing I had ever eaten, before or since, and the only reason I ate as much as I did is that I did not want my friend to think I was a stupid hillbilly.

I learned an important lesson that day, after I sobered up ....

NEVER eat what is presented to you without knowing what you are doing.

This is true for lobster ...

.... and theology.

There are 15% core truths, unavailable elsewhere, that have served me well my whole life, but in my considered opinion there is about 85% that is inedible, even when served by cooks with the finest motives.

I stay for the precious 15% ... and endure the rest.

So, basically, the tables are covered in vomit.  The core truths are hidden at the bottom of the pile.  (Speaking of beer….Isa 28:7-10)

It’s not worth it.  It’s not worth digging through someone’s bile…I mean vile thoughts…      to cling to the 15%, already buried in years of rot.  (Matt 7:15-20)  We don't lose the truth, the 15%, when we walk away from lies.

Core truths are “captivating”, to say the least.   (Jer 5:26-51; Rev 13:10)

Again, my opinion motivated by sincere concern.

I understand these principles better than you do, Witness

It is clear to me that in Jesus' time on Earth, the system of theology practiced by the Jews he fulfilled without exception, until it was God's time to change it,  The Jewish System had the EXACT same problems we do today in Christian Congregational arrangement.

Such are the limitations of we poor souls, made of DNA, and dust.

We are just big ugly bags of mostly water, but the fact of the matter is ... that is the best we are capable of.as humans, of which I have a realistic expectation of little or nothing.

If you know a global Christian Congregational Arrangement that does NOT have these common problems,, and still has a core of pure Truth, let me know, and when verified, I will abandon what I have and switch to what you have discovered.

Until then, your opinions as expressed are irrelevant hyperbole, and

I will wait in expectation, content that loyalty to God, common sense, and Truth (where I find it), will be enough to "make do".

I have found that those who serve God as a mechanism to try and live forever have TOTALLY missed the point of why we should serve God.

I couldn't agree with you more.

No faithful prophet of God from old, or faithful disciple of God and Jesus Christ, have as their agenda, a personal vindication.  Jesus vindicated His Father, knowing also that he would be glorified. But his motivation was out of pure love; firstly, for God and then for those whom he knew, and whom he desired to experience the love which becomes mutual between God and man.

When I was a JW, the paradise promise was always put before me.  Obey the direction of the organization and that reward was waiting.   I see it so differently now.  I can understand how one yearns to please the Father and Christ.  It is not because of the reward, but it is through an awareness of THEIR love for a mere worm wriggling in the dirt. Isa 41:13,14   I know that obedience brings its reward; but having the fear of God within one’s heart, the respect for His power, patience and love, His blessing bestowed on those shown Truth, helps comprehend that earnest desire to be where truth, Christ and God reside.  It is the connection that love makes through the blessing of Holy Spirit.  It is “the bond of perfection”.  Col 3:14

Michael – “Who Is Like God?”  That is the call of Christ’s faithful servants in the last days.  Rev 12:7  Through the developing an authentic love for the Father only possible through His grace, nothing should stand in our way of making that call – no organization that demands to be glorified, no man who expects obedience to his failures, no man-made rules that cannot be verified by God’s Word.   Isa chapter 48

This is not bad. It is worth playing with a hypothetical chewing out from the Lord as to how those disciples could remain in such a boat of bad caulking and rot, probably not even built by inspired craftsmen, and how they would be so much better off to abandon it for the open sea.

If we put the goal of his preaching work in front of us, we can see that he really didn’t remain in the “leaky boat”.

Jesus called the Pharisees out for who they were – liars and deceivers.  He said these things in front of many Jews.  John 8:42-47  The consequence of this was already written beforehand – death, instrumented by the Pharisees, using the Romans/Gentiles to carry it out. Isa 42:1-4

The only laws Jesus followed were those outlined by God.

Pharisaic Laws, from

    Hello guest!

In contrast to the two commands of Christ, the Pharisees had developed a system of 613 laws, 365 negative commands and 248 positive laws... By the time Christ came it had produced a heartless, cold, and arrogant brand of righteousness. As such, it contained at least ten tragic flaws.

(1) New laws continually need to be invented for new situations. (“new light”)

(2) Accountability to God is replaced by accountability to men.

“The growing number of prospective sheep count it a privilege to support Christ’s brothers not only in the preaching work but also in other practical ways. For example, they give financial contributions and help to build Kingdom Halls, Assembly Halls, and branch facilities, and they loyally obey those appointed by “the faithful and discreet slave” to take the lead.”  Wt 15/3/15 p. 29

(3) It reduces a person’s ability to personally discern.

“Be determined to stick to Jehovah’s organization and loyally support the leadership he provides—no matter what imperfections may surface. (

    Hello guest!
) Do not be “quickly shaken from your reason” when faced with what appear to be damaging attacks by apostates or other such deceivers of the mind—however plausible their charges may seem. (
    Hello guest!
    Hello guest!
)

 (4) It creates a judgmental spirit.

Judgment made against any who think for themselves.  Judgment against all who are on the outside of the WT.

(5) The Pharisees confused personal preferences with divine law.

WT’s governing body member, Anthony Morris, stated that the “theocratic organization” receives its decisions or “decrees” from God.  He comments, “When that direction comes out to Branch committee members, or when it comes out to the congregations; if you want Jehovah’s blessing on you as an individual or family, certainly as an elder or congregation, it’d be best to ask Jehovah to help you understand it, but obey the decision.”

(6) It produces inconsistencies.

“To be a part of such a loving brotherhood fills my heart with appreciation and makes me proud to be one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.”  g 8/08 p. 19

“How should anointed Christians feel about themselves?  Jehovah’s holy spirit helps his servants to be humble, not proud.” w20/1 p. 26-31

(7) It created a false standard of righteousness.

“All in the congregation can show principled love by avoiding contact and conversation with the disfellowshipped person. (

    Hello guest!
    Hello guest!
) They thus reinforce the discipline that Jehovah has given him through the elders W 15 4/15 p. 30,31

“Today, Jehovah has brought us into his clean organization, where we feel his love and protection.”  W 17/10 p. 15-20

(8) It became a burden to the Jews.

“Do we faithfully follow the latest directions that Jehovah has given us? If so, we will not rely on always doing things the way we have done them in the past. Rather, we will be quick to follow any new direction that Jehovah provides through his organization. (

    Hello guest!
) At the same time, we will be careful that we “do not go beyond the things that are written.” (
    Hello guest!
) In so doing, we keep our eyes fixed on Jehovah.”  W 18/7 p. 15,16

This is such a hypocritical statement.  If a direction is “new”, then it has gone beyond the things that are written in the scriptures.

(9) It was strictly external.

That is made obvious in so many ways – clean kingdom halls, clean building methods, clean dress habits,  hiding the organization’s sins under the carpet so as not to bring reproach on “Jehovah’s name”, meaning the Watchtower organization.   Luke 11:39

(10) It was rejected by Christ.

Any “in Christ”/anointed priests of his who imitate Jesus in front of today’s leaders by speaking against their doctrine, are also “killed” through disfellowshipping. Rev 13:15; 11:1-3,7  Any JW who dare give “testimony” to the truth of Jesus Christ, are also “killed” – thrown out of the congregation. John 16:2 This was prophesied for the last days, and it shows how exactly the “Jewish” system today, is run by the leaders of the WT.

"There was no governing body in the first century CE. Therefore, the present Governing Body has no legacy and should be dissolved." - p. 135.   😲   I know what you're all thinking: 'This is fake news, a hoax. He'd never say that.' But the book is available from his own Awatu Publishers via email for $10 (see Reddit link below). It's was only released a little over a week ago and is a hefty 337 pages long. He relates his long history in the org., that his issues have been brewing over the last 15 years, and what he says gels with what I know from various other sources - some of which are off-grid. While Furuli still believes JWs are the true religion and many core doctrines are correct (including 607!), he blasts the current GB for losing their way, being power- and money-grabbing, amongst other complaints, and he scripturally dismantles the FDS doctrine. He thinks the organization should be restructured so that it is theocratic like in the good old post-1971 days (I'm paraphrasing) rather than hierarchical like the Catholic church (yes, he refers to the Menlo Park court case). He says he approached the GB in the spirit of Matt. 18, and added that,    "The Governing Body received the book, and the members were
informed that if the basic problems discussed in the book could be
settled inside the organization, the book would not be published.
The GB has refused to communicate with me and therefore the
book has been published." - p. 14.   He knows full well what will happen to him which, I guess, will prove his point about the GB being autocratic and beyond questioning or correction.    Did anyone expect this bombshell? I certainly didn't! 😆   Here's the link to the Reddit discussion:

A Norwegian JW woman, who was sexually abused, was disfellowshipped for fornication. The woman first appealed inside the organization - without success. Feeling injustice, she then decided to sue Jehovah's Witnesses. The court decided last month that the disfellowshipping was against the Norwegian law and must be canceled. The court also ordered the local Jehovah's Witness organization to pay 100 000 NOK to the woman.

Hello guest! Please register or sign in (it's free) to view the hidden content. Google translate of today's development:
-Remove the state aid for Jehovah's Witnesses
MDG (Green Party) believes Prime Minister Kjell Ingolf Ropstad has only one choice: -Remove state aid from Jehovah's Witnesses. Ap (Labour Party) thinks he should have taken hold of the religious community a long time ago.
Vårt Land revealed last week that members of Jehovah's Witnesses can be expelled from the faith community if they vote in elections. Kjell Ingolf Ropstad (KrF), who is in charge of the Solberg government's belief and life policy, went out saying that voting rights for Jehovah's Witnesses could be the basis for withdrawing state aid.
At the Storting (parliament), the parties look differently at what reactions the religious community should meet with.
      The clearest
MDG says it clear. The party believes the practice revealed must have serious consequences for Jehovah's Witnesses, spokesman Arild Hermstad said.
«Should Ropstad Withdraw State Aid When Religious Communities Urge Members Not to Participate in Democratic Elections?»
-«Yes. It is not acceptable for religious communities to put pressure, ban, or punish those who choose to vote. It is an obvious violation of human rights and a violation of Norwegian law. If they do not change practices, we believe they should not receive state aid,» says Hermstad.
The point of view is far supported by Rødt («Red»). Vice President Silje Kjosbakken says they "are looking into the possibility of depriving Jehovah's Witnesses support":
-«We will not ban religious communities that ask members not to exercise their voting rights, but we see no reason to give them public support either.»
      Boundaries
Kari Henriksen in the Labour Party believes that Ropstad as Minister of Religion should have addressed this earlier.
«I'm a little surprised that Ropstad didn't know about the practice of Jehovah's Witnesses. It is known that they will not vote, but perhaps less well known what the consequences it will have for members who choose to vote,» says Henriksen, who is a member of the the cultural and family committee in the parliament.
«Ropstad should be invited to dialogue with Jehovah's Witnesses before threatening to deprive the state aid,» says Henriksen.
She believes that state aid should be an active tool for engaging in dialogue with closed faith communities.
«Today, the state would rather report after the aid has been distributed. Now that this has happened, Ropstad should have invited Jehovah's Witnesses to dialogue, stating clearly where the boundaries of the larger community are going.»
      Surprised
SV's Freddy Øvstegård sits on the same committee as Henriksen.
«When I was younger, I knew several Jehovah's Witnesses who were politically interested but had to hide this. Therefore, they were secret members of youth parties. This was talked about in the Christian environment, so I'm quite surprised that the reactions from Ropstad are only coming now,» says Øvstegård.
He believes that Jehovah's Witnesses are not alone in having a problematic religious practice.
-«We have to be consistent in the treatment of human rights violations in several faiths. Norway must become better at cracking down on all forms of social control across religious groups.»
«Do you think it was right for Ropstad to threaten to wothdraw the state aid?»
«Yes, certainly given that they deny their members the right to vote. This is serious, and it is only now that we see this kind of abuse so clearly.»
The Center Party (SP) spokeswoman - and member of the same committee, Åslaug Sem-Jacobsen, says that the party "has noted that the Minister of Religion is now addressing the matter and will discuss it with the concerned county people":
«We hope it does not take too long and will listen to the government's assessments as they come.»
      Reactions
The ruling parties are careful to comment on the possibility of state aid cuts for Jehovah's Witnesses. But KrF's parliamentary representative Jorunn Gleditsch Lossius says she "responds":
«If it is true that members of Jehovah's Witnesses can be excluded and excluded if they use the right to vote, I react strongly to this.»
«Should state aid be withdrawn when religious communities urge members not to participate in democratic elections?»
«The prime minister has now asked the individual county council to assess whether there have been violations of democratic rights and principles. And there will always be a delicate balance towards upholding freedom of belief.»
      Basic
Kristin Ørmen Johnsen (H), chair of the Storting's Family and Cultural Committee, has one comment:
«It is a fundamental right to be able to vote in elections, and it is unacceptable if someone is prevented from using their right to vote.»
Left-wing faith and life-spokesperson Grunde Almeland says voting "one of the most fundamental rights of Norwegian citizens":
«If authorities threaten individuals using this fundamental right with sanctions, it is, as I feel it, an abuse of power.»
      Undermines
The Progressive Party (FrP), as the only government party, is clear that they do not want to distribute state aid to any religious community.
«I think the matter gets extra serious when religion is used as an anti-democratic press», says Frps representative in the Family and Culture Committee, Morten Wold, and add:
«Faith is a private matter. Once we have public support for communities of faith and beliefs, it is absolutely essential that they do not undermine democracy and violate fundamental human rights.»

Ma bouche s’ouvre toute grande contre mes ennemis,
      Arrêtez de parler avec orgueil ;
      À Jéhovah appartiennent les fondations de la terre ;
      Jéhovah anéantira ceux qui combattent contre lui ;
