Disfellowshipping is an across-the-board condemnation for everything from smoking, celebrating Christmas, drunkenness, infidelity, fornication, murder, child abuse, rejection of the organization and the GB’s leadership, etc.  In ALL cases, shunning is expected.

Its effect can lead to one's destruction.

Lewis Marshall, 27, of High Street in Wells, died on Sunday November 24, 2019 after he hanged himself at St James Park in Bristol.

A heartbroken man struggled to cope after his American wife was unable to secure UK residency, an inquest heard.

Ms Marsh added her son was "disowned" by the Jehovah Witness fellowship due to his smoking and drinking and erratic behaviour. Mr Marshall had been in Bristol at the time of his death to attend a Jehovah's Witness convention.

lan Tabram, Mr Marshall's dedicated care co-ordinator, said Mr Marshall "felt marginalised" by being defellowshipped by Jehovah's Witness and felt "rejected" when he attended a Jehovah's Witness convention in Exeter.
