  3. With my outrageous sense of humor I have the potential to get in a GREAT deal of trouble. I have often thought about as the Emblems were passed in the Kingdom Hall, that after I passed them, to reach into my coat pocket and get a handful of potato chips or corn Doritos, and noisily, open mouthed, put the whole handful into my mouth, and crunch noisily. It would shock those in attendance, but it would be disrespectful to Jehovah and His Christ. ...... and that is why I have never done it. Looking at some goofy animals, I suspect Jehovah has a sense of humor ..... but I dare not t

  4. Here is a copy of a 2006 translation of the Cyrus Cylinder - Looks like Cyrus wasn't fussy who he worshipped The following translation (by Michalowski) is given by Chavalas (ed.) 2006, and reproduced by permission of the author and publisher. A slightly different English translation was published previously by Pritchard, and repeated by Ghias Abadi on pp. 35-36 with Farsi on pp. 15-22, French on pp. 33-34 and German (after Berger) on pp. 30-31. 5. I think you are referring to the speculations in the original post. Don't know where they came from, but only a couple of them were anywhere near close: We did get some new light on "Vindication of Jehovah's name" (actually old light that was switched off for a while) -- which is Ezekiel related. Also, got some new Ezekiel "Temple" info, digging in our heels to make a bit more of it about the "magic year" of 1919. Spiritual paradise is also nuanced a bit differently than previous Watchtowers. A big surprise that not even one of the next 5 major languages for the Revised NWT was compl

  6. I do not know any announcements, but here are some few ideas / suggestions (for the brothers who read this) ========================================================================================= • Making the “cart” more ‘modern’ or updated? perhaps… what I want to say, making the “cart-witnessing” to ‘fit’ the modern technology, adding a tv, so videos can be on display, perhaps? (many kiosks at the book festivals have a tv already that plays from jwbroadcasting). • MORE VIDEO FILMS for the www.jw2018.org page? perhaps… not only images, but al

  8. As the book comments, this text was produced to legitimize Cyrus' right to conquer and rule Babylonia. It's interesting how, because Nabonidus had disrespected Babylon's patron deity (Marduk) by elevating other gods instead and making other religious reforms, Cyrus is said to have been specially chosen and guided by Marduk to take Babylon and depose unfaithful Nabonidus. It's a familiar theme. Because Judean kings had dishonored and disobeyed YHWH, Nebuchadnezzar was divinely chosen to take Jerusalem and depose those unfaithful kings. Also compare: Cylinder "[Marduk]

  9. A clay cylinder covered in Akkadian cuneiform script, damaged and broken, the Cyrus Cylinder is a powerful symbol of religious tolerance and multi-culturalism. In this enthralling talk Neil MacGregor, Director of the British Museum, traces 2600 years of Middle Eastern history through this single object.
