To each his own. Most of the sisters I know are humble and willing to listen. Brothers on the other hand can be as obstinate as a Missouri mule.

David Normand got a reaction from Srecko Sostar in JW "Doctrine" versus "Opinion"
There is not a glossary of terms at the end of the Bible that a person can peruse to get the correct sense of Hebrew and Greek words. It is really left up to us to decide what words or phrases mean. Most people do not have the inclination, time, or mental acuity to spend countless hours reading and researching ancient words and phrases and as such we deffer to trusted individuals to do that for us.
Generation has different meaning depending upon the context. The current OPINION of the Faithful and Discrete slave is that generations refers to overlapping groups of people. At one time it included those individuals who were alive in 1914, which made sense back in the day when there were many folks in that group. Not that that group has dwindled significantly it makes sense to revise the definitions of generation in light of current facts. This may change some time in the future. Only time will tell.

David Normand reacted to Allegra Garrett in Jehovah’s Witness Bride Wears Simple Gown To Her White Wedding
The best gift Jehovah gives is free will. I was married in a blush pink gown 25 yrs ago. The talk was given by an elder (my father) at a local country club where we also had the reception. Since 3 different congregations were invited, having it at the Hall wasn't practical. We still managed to have an inexpensive happy occasion. Point is, Jehovah is the creator of marriage and does deserve to be involved, but no one should be stumbled if the bride doesn't wear a white pricy dress or they decide to move the venue to a larger location.

What's wrong with it? Bride wearing a white dress to her wedding is a relatively modern convention that does nothing but add cost to the wedding and in no way enhances the married life of the participants.

THESE ARE PEOPLE I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW!
That is exactly what Susan and I did when we got married !
As retired engineer and math teacher we are not into impressing anyone.  We got simple, silver wedding bands that cost less than $200, of which we are very proud to wear.
Parties are nice, and I do go to parties ... including my two son's weddings at Kingdom Halls, but people that NEED parties are usually painfully shallow and self-centered ... caring more about others' opinions than what is right or wrong according to a persons NATURAL conscience.
Peer pressure ruins a person, both inside and outside of the Truth, in my not-so-humble opinion.

@David Normand although if I were to think along those lines. ...
Why even have a public ceremony anyways? It does nothing for their future married life. Potentially even costs $.
Just run down to the Justice of the Peace at the Courthouse and get married. :-)

David Normand got a reaction from Anna in Upstate NY mom: Teacher physically forced daughter to stand for the pledge
Wow, that issue was settled almost 3/4 of a century ago and stated unequivocally that as a matter of conscience you cannot force students to pledge allegiance to the flag. Unsettling, but not surprising that this issue pops up now and again.
I commented to my wife last night when a commercial for a new movie was playing that there does seem to be more patriotic movies being produced this year then in times past. However, these are not directly war movies, but more directed at the home front and the need for citizens to support the military. I suppose soft-patriotism might be a way to describe them. They are not in your face patriotic, but rather seek to persuade by showing how soldiers are dedicated to country and family.
Back to the teacher, she does not seem to have gotten the message and is instead using the hard sell method to force student to violate their conscience.

David Normand got a reaction from Melinda Mills in Quebec coroner says Jehovah’s Witnesses had right to refuse blood transfusions
Freedom of choice and freedom of conscience do not mean freedom from adverse consequences. Things happen. To some individuals a clean conscience before Jehovah and Jesus is the most important thing.

    @David Normand
True, one day we might not even have shoes ? walking into the new world, never mind jewelry! What we value the most becomes us! To me I would rather have no jewelry and stay alive if I need to run. However to me, diamonds ? I have but hardly ever wear. What we value we become. To be modest in Jehovah’s eyes is more important. All the gold is Jehovah’s all the diamonds ? are His!  My life is more important than jewels or gold. Now that is more precious is it not? Showing our gold or silver or making a showy display is not what we need to cultivate. Be grounded to the earth, Jehovah and his Blessings if it’s His will that’s what will keep us alive!
     Thank you for your support!
    Jehovah Bless

I remember some counsel related to cartilage piercing a number of years back. At that time it was just getting started and now I see more and more sisters getting their ears pierced on the top and such. Have not heard any talks about that in a number of years. Sisters are still doing it and going out in service and such. Seems to have public acceptance. At least in this area.
Same was done with ankle bracelets. Recall a talk about why sisters should avoid that. After a circuit overseers wife wore one that was the last I heard against it.
Mainly brothers trying to impose their own fashion taste. Brothers just need to constantly be reminded that they are not the the masters of our fate as one circuit overseer phrased it.
    Cheers,
    Dave

Very sad report and we can only imagine how difficult this must all be for the surviving families.
This statement is rather misleading in that  a "free" and "informed" decision on a matter does not sit well with the notion of that matter being something which is arbitrarily "forbidden under Jehovah's Witness doctrine".
Also, whilst the coroner correctly highlights the difficullty faced by physicians in balancing the will of a patient against their subjective medical assessment of the result, it surely is not the case that the medical oath to protect and save human life is one that must be fulfilled "at all costs"? Otherwise, how could abortion (apparently prohibited by the Hippocratic oath) be permitted? Seemingly running at about 100,000 per year in Canada, this would surely generate significant coroner input if unlawful. And yet, the outrage seems disproportionate.
Once again, media and honesty publicly demonstrate their estrangement.

Well, I wouldn't. And the third picture looks especially unappealing to me. However, for the Christian so inclined it really should depend upon how it is viewed by those that we meet in our Christian Ministry work. Like beards or tattoos, if it detracts from our message or pushes people away from Jehovah then we might want to rethink our choice to have one.
(1 Corinthians 10:29-33) 29 I do not mean your own conscience, but that of the other person. For why should my freedom be judged by another person’s conscience? 30 If I am partaking with thanks, why am I to be spoken of abusively over that for which I give thanks? 31 Therefore, whether you are eating or drinking or doing anything else, do all things for God’s glory. 32 Keep from becoming causes for stumbling to Jews as well as Greeks and to the congregation of God, 33 just as I am trying to please all people in all things, not seeking my own advantage, but that of the many, so that they may be saved.

David Normand reacted to Johnny Paulick in WORLD PRESS COMMENTS ON JEHOVAHS WITNESSES REFUSAL TO TAKE BLOOD
When you look at the principle of the texts that forbid the intake of blood, it is not a matter of eating or consuming through a vein ... When Jehovah forbids blood or describes that they should let it run on the ground at slaughter, "Let it be holy, it's mine." The blood is Jehovah's. We do not have the right to use it as our own. We are subject to the principle that the blood is sacred that Jesus by his blood could run away from mankind. We do not have the right to administer and neglect the meaning of the blood .. IT IS JEHOVAS!

David Normand reacted to Jim63 in Shun your inactive family members and report them if you suspect they are sinning
So many people (even some who say they are my brothers) put this situation is a negative light. Disfellowshipping serves the purpose of saving a persons life hopefully. Jehovh wants them to turn around and quit practicing what he doesn't approve of. He wants them to be able to continue living into His wonderful new world He has promised.
People say: "how heartless his family is for "shunning" him." Those people don't understand! They are trying to save that ones everlasting life by 'disciplining in righteousness'. People just won't see past the momentary pain needed to save the life of the one who has gone astray.
Hebrews 12:10, 11 . . . "True, no discipline seems for the present to be joyous, but it is painful; yet afterward, it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it."
Then Upon his / her reinstatement:
(2 Corinthians 2:5-7. . . "Now if anyone has caused sadness, he has saddened, not me, but all of YOU to an extent—not to be too harsh in what I say. This rebuke given by the majority is sufficient for such a man, so that, on the contrary now, YOU should kindly forgive and comfort [him], that somehow such a man may not be swallowed up by his being overly sad."
