  2. Thank you for those links. I see that others are trying to answer you there, so I don't want to cause confusion or disorder by adding my 2 cents I think that if there are problems there is a constructive way to express it and a destructive way to express it. As regards God's name - our main reason for choosing the English spelling "Jehovah" is because it is the most commonly known version of God's name. But there are other reasons as well such the spelling of other Biblical names. The fact that the vowels were added in the second millennium C.E is a good point you raise and it maybe sometime before debate about that settles. It certainly won't be settled here over night.
  3. I personally have not blocked you, but having worked on another forum for a few years I know that blocking really depends on two things, one is has the person being blocked had complaints about or breached the guidelines. 2) Is the membership of that person in the best interests of the forum. If your, information relies heavily of hear say and misinformation maybe that could be the case.
  4. You first used a spurious Bible verse to say that 'by prayer and fasting'. Then, used 'calling on the name of Jesus' that one would be healed from voices. Since I have a diagnosed medical condition as shown by the tags for this post, you implied, knowingly or unknowingly, then that the condition was a demonic one. Your further posts show the same inclination. By the way, I believe the '84 revision of the KIT (Kingdom Interlinear Translation) takes any argument about Johannes Greber's background out of the equation. Why not start a new thread on that topic. Your assertions are just that, assertions. I cannot accept assertions. There is plenty of hear say surrounding Westcott and Hort, I choose not believe every statement particularly from those opposed and biased to their work. I'm guessing that neither of us is a scholar so we can put away the Greek documents for now. Sorry, but Joel 2: 32 is directly quoted at Roman 10: 13. If you have a look you'll notice that Joel says that all those who call upon the name of Jehovah will be saved. What you are referring to is the name Jehovah is not found in the NT manuscripts, that does not mean Jehovah is not meant when the OT is quoted. By cross referencing the scriptures we arrive at the understanding as well as the J documents (J7,8,10,13-18,22-24)which confirm that Jehovah is meant at Romans 10: 13. But, maybe that discussion is for another thread.
  5. This is not logical reasoning, using someone else's experience to suggest that it will be true in other cases. There's a reason that verse does not appear in the NWT sir.
  6. John, what you may not realise is that by implying that demons are involved in mental illness is that such people have done something wrong to lose God's protection and blessing. Many assume that demons cannot come into a hall or into a person because God's angel is camping around all those serving him. So if the demons do get in, the implication is that we voice hearers are outside of God's protection or disapproved somehow. This line of thinking leads to hysteria and suspicion. This is why I call it ignorant and unhelpful advice. You are vilifying the mentally ill as if they are to blame some how for their own condition.
  7. HI ann your post doesn't really answer my question. I was looking for a list of current teachings affected by our new understanding of the Babylonish Captivity. For example, how does it afect our understanding of the 2 Witnesses of Revelation 11?
  8. Our most recent understanding of the Babylonian captivity is that it runs from the 2nd century C.E. to 1919 C.E. Adjustments on this scale have big rippling effects on other teachings. So, my question is, can we come up with a list of other teachings affected by this adjustment and maybe show how they might fit into the adjusted understanding? 9. John, I think Melinda showed that there is a difference between medical conditions like Epilepsy (Mental condition) and Demon possession (Spiritual condition). There is so much ignorance around mental illness today it is truly saddening. I happen to work in mental health and meet voice hearers who have tried calling upon God's name Jehovah and Jesus' name neither worked because not all ailments go away just because you happen to use Jehovah's name or Jesus' name. Remember, the Apostle Paul who asked God three times to take away his thorn in the flesh? What was God's answer?
  10. 2 Corinthians 13: 5 "Keep testing whether you are in the faith; keep proving what you yourselves are. Or do you not recognize that Jesus Christ is in union with you? Unless you are disapproved".
  11. "Happy are those conscious of their spiritual need." Matthew 5: 3 To be conscious of our spiritual need we have to be aware of an innate need for purpose and meaning in life. But spirituality means different things to different people. To some, putting kingdom interests first is being spiritual. To others, being spiritual has nothing to do with religion. What does spirituality mean to you and how do you show it in your life?
  12. So, you do you believe psychiatric conditions are actually demonic possessions?
  13. I hear voices and have done so since January 2011. It caused some to react sharply and to distance themselves from me. The research I have done since, shows that they are a psychological phenomenon. But I would like to know what you think as well as what research you've done.
  14. I'm not sure that has to be the case. The starting point is the year not the month, in my opinion. So, it is the same year that the 20th year is counted from. It's not unlike Jesus being in the grave for "parts" of three days, not whole days. I guess it's how precise you would like to be. I'm happy with the answer given.
  15. 1:1; 2:1—Is “the twentieth year” mentioned in these two verses counted from the same reference point? Yes, the 20th year is that of the reign of Artaxerxes the king. However, the method of counting used in these verses is different. Historical evidence points to 475 B.C.E. as the year of Artaxerxes’ ascension to the throne. Since the Babylonian scribes customarily counted the years of the Persian kings’ reign from Nisan (March/April) to Nisan, Artaxerxes’ first regnal year began in Nisan of 474 B.C.E. Hence, the 20th year of rulership mentioned at Nehemiah 2:1 began in Nisan of 455 B.C.E. The month of Chislev (November/December) mentioned at Nehemiah 1:1 logically was the Chislev of the preceding year—456 B.C.E. Nehemiah refers to that month as also falling in the 20th year of Artaxerxes’ reign. Perhaps in this case, he was counting the years from the accession date of the monarch. It could also be that Nehemiah was counting time by what the Jews today call a civil year, which begins in the month of Tishri, corresponding to September/October. In any case, the year in which the word went out to restore Jerusalem was 455 B.C.E. wt 06 2/1 p8 pp5
