TheWorldNewsOrg got a reaction from admin in Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos Shares His Thoughts on Free Speech, Artificial Intelligence and Building Factories in Space
Jeff Bezos has become a household name in the retail and tech industries for his ability to anticipate trends and his willingness to take risks.
When the Amazon CEO spoke at Recode’s Code Conference eight years ago, the online retail giant had just recently launched its Kindle e-reader, which has since proven to be a tremendous success.
Bezos attended that same conference Tuesday evening in Los Angeles, but this time, his goals were even more extravagant and future-focused than ever: In his talk with Recode editor-at-large Walt Mossberg, he discussed artificial intelligence and his ideas for saving the planet.
During their conversation, which was recorded and published by Recode, Bezos claimed that the way to protect the planet is “by going into outer space.”
Bezos told Mossberg that high-energy production should take place in space in order to preserve the Earth as a clean living space.
“Earth will be zoned residential and light industrial,” he explained. “You shouldn’t be doing heavy energy on earth. We can build gigantic chip factories in space.”
He also said that futuristic developments like natural language processing, AI and machine “learning” are going to be “gigantic.”
“It’s probably hard to overstate how big of an impact it’s going to have on society over the next 20 years,” Bezos said.
Sharing his optimism, the CEO told Mossberg, “I think we’re on the edge of a golden era.”
Bezos, who owns the Washington Post, also commented on the importance of protecting the press from moneyed adversaries who don’t like what they publish. Bezos himself has been targeted by Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump over the paper’s coverage of the Trump campaign.
“The best defense to speech that you don’t like about yourself as a public figure is to develop a thick skin. It’s really the only effective defense, because you can’t stop it,” he said. “If you’re doing anything interesting in the world, you’re going to have critics. If you absolutely can’t tolerate critics, then don’t do anything new or interesting.”
When asked about PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel’s funding of Hulk Hogan’s lawsuit against Gawker, Bezos was careful to phrase his response as generally as possible.
“It’s the ugly speech that needs protection,” he noted. And for those who dislike someone’s “ugly speech,” Bezos said, “You don’t have to invite those people to your dinner parties.”
When Amazon launched its Kindle e-reader almost a decade ago, there were rumors that the company, which started off selling only books, was trying to put bookstores and publishing companies out of business. Now, with Amazon’s sophisticated shipping process that offers customers the option free two-hour shipping via drone delivery, there is new speculation that the company is trying to put the U.S. Postal Service out of business.
But Bezos put these fears at ease, saying that Amazon isn’t so much interested in taking over the “last mile” of the delivery trek, as it is in making the process more efficient for the company and its partners.
“We’re growing our business with UPS, we’re growing our business with the U.S. Postal Service and still we’re supplementing it,” he said.
TheWorldNewsOrg got a reaction from The Librarian in Social Media Companies Promise to Take Down Hate Speech Within the Next 24 Hours
Not long after the French Jewish group UEFJ sued Twitter, Facebook and Google in Paris for how they monitor hate speech on the Internet, the social media platforms are vowing to tackle hate speech within the next 24 hours.
Over the course of about six weeks in April and May, the anti-discrimination watchdog flagged what they described as undoubtedly racist, homophobic and anti-Semitic hate speech, 90 percent of which was reportedly found on Twitter and YouTube. The majority of that hate speech, the UEFJ said, remained online for an average of 15 days following requests for removal.

Beyond national laws blocking hate speech, there is a need to make sure such commentary from social media users is “expeditiously reviewed by online intermediaries and social media platforms, upon receipt of a valid notification, in an appropriate time-frame,” Facebook Inc., Twitter Inc., Google, Microsoft Corp. and the European Commission said Tuesday in a joint press release.
The new policy standards surface as Europe comes to terms with the deadly terrorist attacks in Brussels and Paris by the Islamic State, which is known for its prolific use of social media to spread its radical message. The social media companies said it remains a “challenge” to find the right balance between freedom of expression and hate speech in the self-generated content.
“We remain committed to letting the tweets flow,” Karen White, Twitter’s head of public policy for Europe, said in a statement. “However, there is a clear distinction between freedom of expression and conduct that incites violence and hate.”
Facebook executives offered a similar statement, adding that there is “no place” for hate speech on the popular platform.
“With a global community of 1.6 billion people we work hard to balance giving people the power to express themselves whilst ensuring we provide a respectful environment,” Monika Bickert, head of global policy management for Facebook, said. “There’s no place for hate speech on Facebook.”
TheWorldNewsOrg got a reaction from admin in Fed-Up Texan Pays His Speeding Ticket With Over 22,000 Pennies
A Texas man paid his speeding ticket with 22,000 pennies to “protest” the fine.
Brett Sanders of Frisco, Texas told KXAS‑TV that he did “nothing wrong” by driving 9 miles an hour over the speed limit on his street.
“I didn’t hurt anybody. I didn’t endanger anybody’s life,” he said.
Sanders fought the $220 ticket in court, but he lost his case.
“When my fine came due, I just decided I might as well pay with pennies and we’ll make a big spectacle of it,” Sanders said.
He went to the bank to withdraw the coins and brought them to the Frisco Municipal Court in five-gallon buckets, where he proceeded to dump them on the counter. He recorded the incident and posted the video to YouTube.
“It felt great. It really felt great,” he said.
The staff at the Municipal Court told KXAS that it took them three hours to count the coins, and Sanders actually overpaid the city by $7.81.
“I’m just going to go ahead and let them keep that,” he said.

A Thai man is recovering in a hospital after a 10-foot python slithered up through the plumbing and latched onto his penis as he sat on the toilet.
On Wednesday, Attaporn Boonmakchuay, 38, battled the snake for 30 minutes before he managed to extract himself from its grasp, according to CBS News.

TheWorldNewsOrg reacted to JAMMY in GORDON LIGHTFOOT LOST BAND MEMBERS TO JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES
Red, who hails from Saskatchewan, was Lightfoot’s lead guitarist through most of the 60’s. One of his friends was fellow guitarist Russ Townsend . The strange thread here is both became Jehovah’s Witnesses .
Rick Haynes, Lightfoot bassist
A mutual JW friend introduced us. Rick Haynes had converted to the JW’s by then. He shared that Red quit the touring band to stay away from the road life with its many temptations. Red settled down.
Lightfoot made rules that they were not allowed to talk religion and especially JW religion while working for him. That meant on the road, in the dressing room and before and after performances. He saw their preaching as a threat to his career.

TheWorldNewsOrg reacted to JW Insider in Why can't I have longer hair like Jesus?
My Greek is far from perfect, but if this verse was translated from any major mss, then I can't figure how they got that translation. Except for word order, which doesn't matter much in Greek, I think all the mss match up pretty well on this verse anyway.
The addition of the word, μὲν, plus the context, makes it impossible to translate "neither" into the text as far as I can tell. (That word, plus the context of the following verse, pretty much forces it to have the same meaning that the NWT presents.)
Sounds to me like they translated it that way because of a personal preference. It's still possible to look at how men's hair grows naturally to a shorter length on average than a woman's. The verse doesn't say anything about exact hair lengths.

2 One way we pay back “God’s things to God” is by not taking sides in the political issues of this world. We are neutral in these matters. (Isaiah 2:4) Since Jehovah allows human governments to rule, we do not oppose them. We also do not get involved in any patriotic or nationalistic activity. (Romans 13:1, 2) We do not try to change governments or try to influence politicians, and we do not vote in political elections or become politicians

Evening Dinner with my old Father.....
A son took his old father to a restaurant for an evening dinner. Father being very old and weak, while eating, dropped food on his shirt and trousers. Other diners watched him in disgust while his son was calm.
After he finished eating, his son who was not at all embarrassed, quietly took him to the wash room, wiped the food particles, removed the stains, combed his hair and fitted his spectacles firmly. When they came out, the entire restaurant was watching them in dead silence, not able to grasp how someone could embarrass themselves publicly like that. The son settled the bill and started walking out with his father.
At that time, an old man amongst the diners called out to the son and asked him, “Don’t you think you have left something behind ?”.
The son replied, “No sir, I haven’t”.
The old man retorted, “Yes, you have ! You left a lesson for every son and hope for every father”.
The restaurant went silent.
Moral: To care for those who once cared for us is one of the highest honors. We all know, how our parents cared for us for every little things. Love them, respect them, and care for them.
Eph 6:2 “Honor your father and your mother” is the first command with a promise.
