Health and Medicine got a reaction from edvanguerra@hotmail.com in Coronavirus can be active for up to nine days on surfaces
"Coronaviruses last up to nine days on jacks and bells"

Coronaviruses can remain on surfaces and become infectious for up to nine days at room temperature. On average, they survive four to five days, writes a research team from Greifswald and Bochum in the "Journal of Hospital Infection". "Cold and high humidity are still increasing their service life," Günter Kampf of the Institute for Hygiene and Environmental Medicine at the University Medicine Greifswald said on Friday.

Since there is no specific therapy against coronaviruses, the prevention of contagion is important. Like all droplet infections, the virus spreads through hands and surfaces, which are often touched. "In the hospital, for example, these can be doorknobs, but also bells, bedside tables, bed frames and other objects in the immediate vicinity of patients," Kampf explained.

Together with virologist Eike Steinmann from the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Kampf had compiled findings from studies on coronaviruses and their inactivation for a planned textbook. Based on the current situation, they published the scientific facts in advance. They assume that their findings on other coronaviruses are transmissible to the new virus 2019-nCoV. "Different coronaviruses were studied, and the results were all similar," Steinmann explained.

For disinfection, the researchers recommend means based on ethanol, hydrogen peroxide or sodium hypochlorite. Applying these in the right concentration, they drastically reduced the number of infectious coronaviruses within one minute – from one million to only 100 disease-causing particles. If preparations are used on a different drug basis, they should at least have a limited effect against viruses. "As a rule, this is enough to significantly reduce the risk of contagion," Kampf said. Other researchers had previously advised more frequent hand washing. (dpa)

(CNN)Coronavirus has been confirmed in Southern California -- making it the third case in the United States -- as a top Chinese health official delivered some worrisome news about efforts to contain the fast-moving virus.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notified Orange County health officials Saturday that a potential case of coronavirus tested positive.
The person who tested positive traveled from Wuhan, China -- the epicenter of the outbreak -- and is in isolation and in "good condition" at a local hospital, the Orange County Health Care Agency said in a statement.

@James Thomas Rook Jr.  I agree.
This is a silly attempt by those companies to get some free coverage and look "good"..... and they figure it will cost them little.
It could also backfire a little since they are picking a fight with a celebrity who is dead and cannot defend himself.

If we follow this logic then we will start banning President's Day in the US because a US President owned slaves and even had sex with them.

The food display looks enticing to you doesn't it?

Well... it also is lickable and a temptation that some dogs also find irresistible

Think twice before wrapping your fingers around that sandwich or wrap..

And no... this wasn't a "service dog"
Public Health in restaurant establishments in the United States has plummeted over the past few years unfortunately.
People years ago would have been horrified by this.

But isn't a dogs tongue supposedly cleaner than a humans?   (why do I doubt this wives tale?)

South Korea shuts down the country's largest dog meat slaughterhouse. The move is lauded by animal rights activists.
    ------------------------------
In the 21st century, dog meat is consumed in some regions in China, South Korea, Vietnam, and Nigeria and it is still eaten or is legal to be eaten in other countries throughout the world. Some cultures view the consumption of dog meat as part of their traditional, ritualistic, or day-to-day cuisine, while other cultures consider consumption of dog meat a taboo, even where it had been consumed in the past. It was estimated in 2014 that worldwide, 25 million dogs are eaten each year by humans.
In 2018, Humane Society International stated that South Korea was now the only country in Asia where dogs were reported to be routinely and intensively farmed for human consumption.
United States: As of 2018, it is legal to eat dog meat in 43 states. The only states outlawing its consumption are California, Georgia, Hawaii, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, and Virginia. It is, however, illegal in all states for slaughterhouses to handle dogs, and for stores to sell the meat

Health and Medicine reacted to admin in Beyond meat: The end of food as we know it?
With the latest breakthroughs in artificial intelligence a whole new concept of food may soon radically change what we eat. And at the same time, some experts believe, it could reduce global warming. No longer based on animal ingredients, this is a food entirely based on plants - although it looks and tastes like the classic food based on ingredients derived from animals. This is not a new idea, it has been around for about 10 years. But the breakthrough has been delayed, perhaps one of the reasons is that many consumers still prefer locally produced food, they want to trust the supply chain, and not simply depend on big manufacturers. However, a group of young scientists in Chile are working on alternatives for a sustainable and meatless future.Commercial engineer Matias Muchnick and Harvard research associate Karim Pichara are two of the founders of the Not Company. Together with biochemist Isidora Silva they are developing new plant-based food and are determined to bring it to people in their local market.Part of what motivates them is what they consider to be the biggest drawback of classic animal farming: It requires massive amounts of land and it affects global warming.According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, livestock contributes both directly and indirectly to climate change through the emissions of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide.Livestock is also a major driver of deforestation, desertification, as well as the release of carbon from cultivated soils. Overall the livestock sector is contributing 2.7 billion tonnes of CO2 emission according to the UN."When you get behind the scenes of the food industry, you don't like what you see. There is a lot of things that we should be knowing... but we are blindsided by a whole industry that is making it really hard for us to see what we are really eating," says Matias Muchnick. The main scientist of the Not Company team is a computer, an artificial intelligence algorithm programmed to become the smartest food scientist in the world. It uses deep learning parameters to understand food at a molecular level, helping the team to deliver tasty and affordable nutrition while using less water, less land, less energy, and without the need to cultivate harmful bio systems like animals. It's a complicated process but it's designed to understand human perception of taste and texture which allows it to suggest clever recipes for sustainable and tasty plant-based foods. And it even understands the availability and use of resources for every single plant in the company's database."We want people to eat better, but without even knowing, that's the main objective of the Not Company," Muchnick says. But does the new model of food production really work? Will it be popular among consumers? What does it mean for the future of food? Are we at the tipping point of a food revolution? The team behind the Not Company talks to Al Jazeera to discuss their work, their goals and their vision for the future of the food industry.

Regarding Mr Roger's religious affiliations, I always say the truth is the truth no matter who speaks it and a lie is still a lie no matter who speaks it.   But I personally like pretzel sticks more than the original design, easier to eat and less messy.
