Is it reasonable to believe that the Ninevites would repent in sackcloth at the warning of Jonah?

Commissioned a second time to go to Nineveh, he undertook the long journey there. “Finally Jonah started to enter into the city the walking distance of one day, and he kept proclaiming and saying: ‘Only forty days more, and Nineveh will be overthrown.’” (Jon 3:1-4) Whether Jonah knew Assyrian or was miraculously endowed with ability to speak that language is not revealed in the Bible. He may even have spoken Hebrew, his proclamation later being interpreted by one(s) knowing the language. If spoken in Hebrew, Jonah’s words could have aroused great curiosity, with many wondering just what this stranger was saying.

Some critics think it incredible that the Ninevites, including the king, responded to Jonah’s preaching. (Jon 3:5-9) In this regard the remarks of commentator C. F. Keil are of interest: “The powerful impression made upon the Ninevites by Jonah’s preaching, so that the whole city repented in sackcloth and ashes, is quite intelligible, if we simply bear in mind the great susceptibility of Oriental races to emotion, the awe of one Supreme Being which is peculiar to all the heathen religions of Asia, and the great esteem in which soothsaying and oracles were held in Assyria from the very earliest times . . . ; and if we also take into calculation the circumstance that the appearance of a foreigner, who, without any conceivable personal interest, and with the most fearless boldness, disclosed to the great royal city its godless ways, and announced its destruction within a very short period with the confidence so characteristic of the God-sent prophets, could not fail to make a powerful impression upon the minds of the people, which would be all the stronger if the report of the miraculous working of the prophets of Israel had penetrated to Nineveh.”—Commentary on the Old Testament, 1973, Vol. X, Jonah 3:9, pp. 407, 408.

After 40 days had passed and still nothing had happened to Nineveh, Jonah was highly displeased that Jehovah had not brought calamity upon the city. He even prayed for God to take away his life. But Jehovah answered Jonah with the question: “Have you rightly become hot with anger?” (Jon 3:10–4:4) The prophet subsequently left the city and, later, erected a booth for himself. There, to the E of Nineveh, Jonah watched to see what would befall the city.—Jon 4:5.

When a bottle-gourd plant miraculously grew to provide shade for Jonah, the prophet was very pleased. But his rejoicing was short-lived. The next day, early in the morning, a worm injured the plant, causing it to dry up. Deprived of its shade, Jonah was subjected to a parching east wind and the hot sun beating down upon his head. Again, he asked to die.—Jon 4:6-8.

By means of this bottle-gourd plant Jonah was taught a lesson in mercy. He felt sorry for the bottle-gourd plant, probably wondering why it had to die. Yet Jonah had neither planted nor cared for it. On the other hand, being the Creator and Sustainer of life, Jehovah had much more reason to feel sorry for Nineveh. The value of its inhabitants and that of the cattle was far greater than that of one bottle-gourd plant. Therefore, Jehovah asked Jonah: “For my part, ought I not to feel sorry for Nineveh the great city, in which there exist more than one hundred and twenty thousand men who do not at all know the difference between their right hand and their left, besides many domestic animals?” (Jon 4:9-11) That Jonah must have got the point is indicated by the candid portrayal of his own experiences.

It may be that sometime later Jonah met at least one of the persons who had been aboard the ship from Joppa, possibly at the temple in Jerusalem, and learned from him about the vows made by the mariners after the storm abated.—Jon 1:16

In the Time of Jonah. Jehovah’s prophet Jonah, in the ninth century B.C.E., declared impending doom for Nineveh because of the wickedness of its inhabitants. However, since the people, including the king, repented, Jehovah spared the city. (Jon 1:1, 2; 3:2, 5-10) At that time Nineveh was a great city, “with a walking distance of three days.” (Jon 3:3) Its population numbered more than 120,000 men. (Jon 4:11) This Biblical description is not controverted by archaeological evidence.

Its Destruction Fulfills Prophecy. Although repenting at the preaching of Jonah (Mt 12:41; Lu 11:30, 32), the Ninevites relapsed and again took to their wicked ways. It was some years after Assyrian King Sennacherib had been murdered at Nineveh in the house of his god Nisroch (2Ki 19:36, 37; Isa 37:37, 38) that Nahum (1:1; 2:8–3:19) and Zephaniah (2:13-15) foretold the destruction of that wicked city.

Their prophecies were fulfilled when the combined forces of Nabopolassar the king of Babylon and of Cyaxares the Mede besieged and captured Nineveh. The city was evidently subjected to burning, for many Assyrian reliefs show damage or stain from fire and accompanying smoke. With reference to Nineveh, a Babylonian chronicle reports: “They carried off the vast booty of the city and the temple (and) [turned] the city into a ruin heap.” (Assyrian and Babylonian Chronicles, by A. Grayson, 1975, p. 94; PICTURE, Vol. 1, p. 958) To this day Nineveh is a desolate waste, and in the spring, flocks graze near or atop the mound of Kuyunjik.

He said that we are going to have anxious thoughts on occasion.
But remember Jesus' counsel: “Mark well that the ravens neither sow seed nor reap, . . . and yet God feeds them.” (Luke 12:24)
According to the Law covenant, ravens were unclean, not fit to be eaten. They were to be considered loathsome. (Leviticus 11:13, 15)
In spite of their status, God feeds them. “So if you are confronted with major anxiety in the future,” said Brother Burnett, “think about the raven.
If God takes care of an unclean, loathsome bird, how much more so is he going to take care of you who are clean in his eyes.”

Hubble Space Telescope Spies Spiral Galaxy Edge-On
A new image from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope shows NGC 1032, a spiral galaxy seen almost edge-on.
NGC 1032, discovered on December 18, 1783, by German-born British astronomer William Herschel, lies in the constellation of Cetus.
Also known as LEDA 10060, UGC 2147 and IRAS F02367+0052, the galaxy is approximately 122 million light-years distant.
NGC 1032 is actually a spectacular spiral galaxy, but from Earth, the galaxy’s vast disc of gas, dust and stars is seen nearly edge-on.
A handful of other galaxies can be seen lurking in the background, scattered around the narrow stripe of NGC 1032.
Many are oriented face-on or at tilted angles, showing off their glamorous spiral arms and bright cores.
Such orientations provide a wealth of detail about the arms and their nuclei, but fully understanding a galaxyÂ’s 3D structure also requires an edge-on view.
This gives astronomers an overall idea of how stars are distributed throughout the galaxy and allows them to measure the ‘height’ of the disc and the bright star-studded core.
In January 2005, a faint calcium-rich supernova called SN 2005E was observed in NGC 1032.
SN 2005E occurred in the halo of NGC 1032, and emitted a large amount of calcium and titanium, which is evidence of a nuclear reaction involving helium.
Astronomers concluded that SN 2005E arose from a low-mass, old star, likely a helium-accreting white dwarf in a binary system.

Signature of Isaiah Discovered in Jerusalem
Excavations in Jerusalem have unearthed what may be the first extra-Biblical evidence of the prophet Isaiah. Just South of the temple mount, in the excavations of Ophel, Archaeologist Eilat Mazar and his team discovered a small imprint of seal that says "[belonging to nvy ". missing the top of the printing and is damaged The left side. . Reconstructing a few Hebrew letters in this damaged area would make the impression "[belonging to the prophet isaiah ". if the reconstruction is maintained, this may be the signature of the biblical prophet Isaiah

Why Were the Ten Commandments Shattered? 
Source of Tablets. The Ten Words were first orally given at Mount Sinai by the angel of Jehovah. (Ex 20:1; 31:18; De 5:22; 9:10; Ac 7:38, 53; see also Ga 3:19; Heb 2:2.)
Moses then ascended the mountain to receive the Ten Words in written form on two stone tablets, along with other commandments and instructions.
During his extended 40-day stay, the people grew restless and made a molten calf to worship. Descending the mountain, Moses saw this spectacle of idolatry and threw down “the tablets [that] were the workmanship of God,” the very tablets upon which the Ten Words had been written, and shattered them.—Ex 24:12; 31:18–32:19; De 9:8-17; compare Lu 11:20
Jehovah later told Moses: “Carve out for yourself two tablets of stone like the first ones, and I must write upon the tablets the words that appeared on the first tablets, which you shattered.” (Ex 34:1-4)
And so after another 40 days spent in the mountain, a duplicate copy of the Ten Words was obtained. These were kept by Moses in an ark of acacia wood. (De 10:1-5)
The two tablets were called “the tablets of the covenant.” (De 9:9, 11, 15) Evidently this is why the gold-overlaid ark later made by Bezalel, in which the tablets were eventually kept, was called “the ark of the covenant.” (Jos 3:6, 11; 8:33; Jg 20:27; Heb 9:4)
This legislation of the Ten Words was also called “the testimony” (Ex 25:16, 21; 40:20) and the “tablets of the Testimony” (Ex 31:18; 34:29), hence the expressions “the ark of the testimony” (Ex 25:22; Nu 4:5), and also “the tabernacle of the Testimony,” that is, the tent where the Ark was housed.—Ex 38:21
Concerning the first set of tablets, it is stated that they not only were made by Jehovah but were also “written on by God’s finger,” evidently denoting God’s spirit. (Ex 31:18; De 4:13; 5:22; 9:10)
Likewise, the second set of tablets, although carved out by Moses, were written upon by Jehovah.
When, at Exodus 34:27, Moses was told, “Write down for yourself these words,” reference was not to the Ten Words themselves, but, rather, as on a previous occasion (Ex 24:3, 4), he was to write down some of the other details pertaining to the covenant regulations.

The Rainbow Tree As the outer layer of the rainbow eucalyptus tree’s bark peels away, the bright green layer underneath begins to show. 
Over time, it fades to a darker green, and then to blue, purple, pink, orange, red, maroon, and back to brown. When it reaches that point, it will peel again and start the process anew. 
Since different layers peel at different times on different parts of the tree, the result is a tree trunk and branches that look like they’ve been painted with hundreds of brushstrokes.
The rainbow eucalyptus is native to the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, and Indonesia, and is grown in other tropical environments that are similarly mild and humid. 
Unfortunately, it cannot survive hot and dry weather or frosty conditions, and can only be grown in specific regions near the equator that will sustain this type of tree. 
It is commonly planted in parks and gardens in countries that can grow it. This natural beauty can also be found lining the Hana highway in Maui, Hawaii, and in swampy areas of Africa,

Study Says Trees Have Feelings, Like To Cuddle And Look After Each Other Like An Old Couple
According to scientific evidence, trees are way more intelligent than we have ever imagined.
Some of the findings of the tree-whisperer Peter Wohlleben are the following:
Peter is a German researcher who not only enjoys being surrounded by trees, but he has also devoted his life to studying them.
He is also a fosterer, author and tree expert and he has created the documentary titled Intelligent Trees, along with Suzanne Simard, who is an ecologist from the University of British Columbia. You can watch the trailer below in order to get a glimpse of it.
Not only that, but trees are also believed to have something which is similar to what we would call a heartbeat.
Dr. András Zlinszkyat Aarhus University, Denmark, used a laser scanning technique in order to measure the precise location of branches and leaves of 22 tree and shrub species. In 2015, he published observations of substantial unexpected movement cycles.
Science has also found that some trees raise and lower their branches several times in the course of one night, indicating a cycle of water and sugar transportation, like their own version of a heartbeat.
In one statement, Zlinszky explained:
During the night period, some trees lower their branches by up to 10 centimeters (4 inches) prior raising them again with the Sun. This is such a slow and subtle processso that until recently it has been though that just a few families do it, now it has been learned that it is more widespread.
Most distinctively, a magnolia (Magnolia Grandiflora) goes through three full cycles of adjusting its branches, in that way indicating the changing of the water pressure and therefore pumping during the night. Watch the beautiful trailer HERE.
 

The Wood Frog is amazing! Does not freeze! Believe it or not.... An Amazing Animal
Cryobiology is the study of biological material that is at below normal temperatures. One example of this material is the body of the wood frog in winter. This amazing animal survives months of hibernation with much of its body frozen and without a beating heart. In most other animals, when the heart stops beating the animal is dead. This is not true for wood frogs, however. Despite the almost complete shut-down of their bodies, the frogs aren't harmed by freezing and become active again when the warmer temperatures of spring arrive.
The wood frog is a fascinating organism to study in its own right. In addition, the adaptations that enable it to survive freezing may be helpful in understanding and perhaps even in dealing with human medical problems. These problems include the safe freezing and thawing of organs for cryopreservation and transplants, a high glucose level in the body, and the safe resumption of blood flow after a heart attack or stroke. 
The Wood Frog
The word frog has two scientific names—Lithobates sylvaticus and Rana sylvatica. It's a small animal that is around 1.4 to 3.25 inches in length. The frog is brown, orange-red, or tan in colour. It has a dark line in front of each eye and a dark blotch behind it. There may be dark, horizontal bars across the hind legs, a dark patch on the upper inside corner of each leg, and dark patches or speckles on other parts of the body.
The animal's range covers the majority of Canada and extends into Alaska and down into the northeastern United States. Wood frogs are also found in a small area in the central United States. The animals live mainly in woods, as their name suggests, but they also inhabit grasslands and the tundra. The adults eat insects and other small invertebrates. The tadpoles eat only plants. The male's call is notable because it resembles a duck's quack.

Does that not warm your heart, Your Heavenly Father is harmonious in his acts and Loves us all dearly? 
The Bible says that God knows each one of the many billions of stars by name. (Isaiah 40:26) 
How much more so must he care about humans who worship him! 
The apostle Paul wrote that “Jehovah knows those who belong to him.” (2 Timothy 2:19) 
This implies more than simply memorizing names. God has intimate knowledge of his worshipers. 
We, in turn, should know God by name and acquire intimate knowledge of his qualities. JW.Org
