ABOUT 200 Gisborne residents will travel to Auckland next weekend for one of 12 annual Jehovah’s Witness conventions taking place across the country. “It’s a highlight of our theocratic year,” said Stewart Walker, an elder at the local Matthews Road congregation. “It’s an important part of our worship, a great opportunity to meet up with old friends, and a nice time for our young people to meet other young people,” he said. Organisers are expecting an attendance of more than 15,000 at the conferences which are part of a world series organised by the international group Jehovah’s Witnesses. The three-day convention, which focuses on loyalty, will feature guest speakers, discussions and a full length video drama. “We usually have one or two overseas speakers but we normally do not know who they are until the event.
