Memorial Day is a time to reflect upon the sacrifices made and the lives lost to protect Americans’ way of life. It’s a day most spend at home, so actor Rob Lowe recommended those who have the day off watch a movie — but many weren’t happy with his suggestion.

The politically-attuned actor offered a friendly recommendation Sunday night, imploring his Twitter followers to watch “13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi,” which he described as the “perfect Memorial Day movie.”

“13 Hours” portrays the 2012 attacks on the U.S. compound in Libya and depicts the way in which an armed forces team responded to the deadly situation. Then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has been criticized for her role in the attack, which left four Americans dead.

Lowe said the Michael Bay flick is “a reminder of everything we should never forget.” However, the actor was slammed on Twitter for suggesting people watch the controversial movie on Memorial Day.

Ultimately, “The West Wing” star chimed in, asking why “everything these days have [sic] to be politicized?”

However, there were also many on the social media network who sided with Lowe’s movie recommendation, some deciding to watching the film after seeing the actor’s post, another saying it was “hard to watch,” but “powerful.”

Even the author of the book “13 Hours,” which the movie was made after, thanked Lowe for his recommendation.
