George H. Nelson, Sr., died peacefully on Aug. 13, 2017, in Aransas Pass, Texas, at the age of 88.

George was born on Nov. 15, 1928. in Brooklyn, New York, to Gustav and Margarite (Sonborne) Nelson. He married Rose Rita Fossum in Brooklyn on Oct. 28, 1951. After moving to Washingtonville, New York, he worked for a number of years for Ford Motor Company in Mahwah, New Jersey.

In 1974 they moved to Alpine, Texas, where he ran a Spudnut Donut shop for several years. Upon retiring, the couple moved to Rockport, Texas, where they enjoyed fishing and bird watching. After the death of his first wife, he married Dorothy Bernal on July 13, 2002. They made their home in Aransas Pass.  He enjoyed his extended family with Dorothy, and making trips to the Frio River.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gustav and Margarite (Sonborne) Nelson; first wife of 49 years: Rose (Fossum) Nelson, and granddaughter Debra Ann Parke Fundyk.

George is survived by his wife of 15 years, Dorothy Olson Bernal Nelson of Aransas Pass; daughter Ann Marie Parke (Dan) of Odem, Texas; son George Nelson, Jr., of Vista, Nebraska; granddaughter Kelly Ann Parke of Odem; and great-grandson Gavin Alexander Fundyk of Bristow, Oklahoma.

A memorial talk will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at Kingdom Hall of JehovahÂ’s Witnesses located at 1649 West DeBerry Avenue in Aransas Pass.
