Rocketing from 0-60 mph in a mere 1.9 seconds looks as ridiculous as it sounds, as swarms of Tesla Next Gen Roadster reservation holders soon found out after experiencing “Maximum Plaid” mode in real life at the semi-truck unveiling event.

Acceleration junkie and Tesla drag racing veteran Brooks from Drag Times documented his experience blasting off from a standstill to over 80 mph, in record-setting fashion, inside a prototype of Tesla’s newest Roadster. “When we take off, if we’re at full power, we’ll go Plaid, we’ll go Plaid”,  says the Tesla employee giving the Roadster test ride. Plaid is of course Tesla’s next level of acceleration, paying homage to Space Balls the movie, that goes beyond Ludicrous mode.

CEO Elon Musk first revealed the company’s plans to introduce the next level of acceleration in 2015 when he penned his “Three Dog Day” blog post. “There is of course only one thing beyond ludicrous, but that speed is reserved for the next generation Roadster in 4 years: maximum plaid.” said Musk.

Now, a little over two years after MuskÂ’s post, we get a first-person look on what itÂ’s like to experience dizzying acceleration in the planetÂ’s quickest production car.

As seen in the video by Drag Times, the RoadsterÂ’s console-integrated center touchscreen flashes the unmistakable plaid indicator when the vehicle reaches maximum power.

We would be hard-pressed to find anyone that doesn’t think they absolutely need to have Tesla’s Next Gen Roadster after watching the video by Brooks. That is until they come to realize the $200,000 to $250,000 price tag.

Tesla is aiming for a 2019 production for the new Roadster. Full specifications and photos can be found here.
