WT: Damaris rejects a scholarship and chooses to work in a bank instead because she PLANNED to become a pioneer. If she planned to pioneer, why did she even apply for university in the first place?

Recommended Posts

Surely a university didn‚Äôt randomly approach her and give her a scholarship? ūüôĄ

This week's WT-study:

The Watchtower - April 2018 - "Young People, Are You Focused on Spiritual Goals?"

3LCMmuyQarAVzUD-cL2IFv72tQm3gl2wayT5L0BWRiQ.jpg

Watchtower is trying to influence those who might be thinking about a university level education to drop the idea, based on simplistic and anecdotal information

First, lawyers are usually not talking to bank staff - the lawyer's assistant is.

Second, what lawyer ever says: "I'm so unhappy," especially to some random person at a bank.

That doesn't invalidate the reality that just because one person noticed that some of the millions of people who followed the career path are unhappy, does not mean that it is wrong to follow that career path or that anyone who does will be unhappy. Flawed reasoning at its worst. Notice I did not say logic, because there is no logic to their reasoning.

They cut the ending off a little prematurely.

"My decision to pioneer helped me sidestep frustration, straight into manic depression, and have existed there for the past 15 years, and will most likely remain there untiL I die. Not unless I commit suicide to get out the the absolute hell hole ive been in all this time - I can see no way out of.

I gave up my youth, my education, my family, my career goals to pioneer, to stand now beside a cart.

If i could talk to myself again, I would tell myself to run...run and never look back.

If i could tell the young ones reading this article, one thing to learn from my experience.....

Run, run and never look back. You have time, i dont."

THE END.

I knew it was you who had that experience. That's what gives it such credibilaty! I mean, credability! Or do I mean, credibilalitie! (I wish I had stayed at college and not gone on that cart!!)

This would suggest, higher education was not needed to work with what was available back in the day. Since humanity has changed? Then, higher education is needed for all the technological advancements that weren’t around.

Its moves with the sign of the times. However, if someone desires spiritual growth, who can decide how someone should follow Christ as a poor man, that needed nothing but the generosity of others, and he gave the same advice to his apostles, that followed his teachings to the very end in the same fashion, even though some were successful.

Therefore, where is it said, that life is a guarantee for someone’s success. If there is? Where is it, so everyone can sign up.

Surprinsingly I agree with you this time¬†ūüėā

Happiness has to do with many different issues, particularly internal issues of everyone.

Exactly, for instance, in some banks in Central America I know you have to get higher education to work in banks¬†unless you work as a cleaning person. And I do not know about¬†part time jobs in banks. I do not know either what Damaris does at the bank¬†ūüėĀ

My daughter has a part time job in a major bank ... as a teller.

With a Law degree she could have a part time job at the same major bank as a mortgage specialists or legal department, etc. for about 4 to 7 times the pay.

I have gotten jobs where there was NO OPENINGS, but because of my skill sets, they CREATED a job for me.

One time I spent six months working on whatever interested me at full pay, waiting for them to find a suitable project.

I looked very busy studying structural engineering.

Earlier in my life, with few skills ... I could not BUY a job ... and nearly starved.

Once again, who can guarantee someone’s success? If a person is happy? Why does it matter? If a wealthy individual is happy contributing with their personal time to do charity work, instead of spreading the wealth? Then why should it matter? If a poor woman gave everything she had (2 cents) while rich people only gave because it was extra? Then who will God appreciate as he did with Cain and Abel?

How should success be measured?

Can we quantify success from those that cheat to pass college? How about those that are guaranteed high college scores because of the advantage they have with their parent’s reputation. How about people like Bernard Madoff that stole anywhere from 50-65 billion of investors’ money, and his children attended good colleges, and yet, Mark Madoff ended up committing suicide. Why? While, all the money in the world couldn’t save Andrew Madoff from cancer, ending his life.

Where’s the proof and guarantee? Of peoples success because they should have pursued higher education?

...janitor or lawyer... window cleaner or bank director - all have chance to be very happy or very unhappy.

...religious or atheist... member of JWorg or member of some other group - they all have same/similar problems.

But when WT chiefs princes teaching the flock to be poor in "worldly Truths" aka education but to be reach (i mean rich - you see what looks like when you have lack of education :) ) in "WT Truth" aka uninspired, err doctrines and instructions that have to be obeyed,  that have to guide your personal life ... then your primary goal, inside need to be happy, as a human, is under attack of Organized, Corporation's manipulation.

... and now you can open discussion about what me, you, other, WTJWorg think about -  What does in fact is content, relevance, intent of phrase: IN SERVICE of GOD, and on other side HOW LOOKS to be IN SERVICE OF MAN :))))))

Final product of theoretical and practical action of someone (single or in group) who is "in service of God is/are" something as follow:

1) I'm certainly right and everyone else is wrong

2) God loves me because I love him

3) I belong to the only true religion, so I'm sure right when I do this service of god in this way

4) My religion (me and my bro and sis, elders) is not perfect but is the best in the whole world

I would have to say, the relevance would be ones, mortal soul. Judgment does not end with death. Just like there is no concrete proof one’s life will flourish by attending college. I believe the evidence shows, the makeup and reality of humanity evolve around the 1%, which the rest will have to be satisfied with what they can get. I know of at least 100 people of different religious background that have completed college, and they are stuck in a minimum wage job. Some have asked for government assistance, while trying to either work off their student loans, by being obligated to work for the government to receive credit or figure out, how to pay the student loans before the interest becomes overwhelming. It took a friend 10 years to pay off his loans when he graduated to be a dentist. A year later, all those 12 years he spent in college, became unsatisfactory to a point, he now works for a company that has nothing to do with dentistry. Does someone need a college degree to flip burgers?

Meanwhile, without having to qualify the reference as an anticlerical rolling commentary? Not looking at service as lord and master but serving with joy, Ephesians 6:7 then the illusion becomes reality. 1 Peter 4:11

Did the Watchtower coin the phrase?

https://www.gospeltruth.net/1841OE/410331_true_service.htm

Or can it be found in many passages in scripture?

Can a true religion ‚Äúallow‚ÄĚ for the killing of others? How many Christian sects pray over wars or associate themselves with it?

http://library.cqpress.com/cqresearcher/document.php?id=cqresrre1942072400

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religious_war

Do these Christian religions qualify under just this one example in the eyes of God? Then ask the same questions as posted? To receive the answer. 1 Corinthians 12:5-6, 1 Peter 4:10-11

About minimum wage and high education. That is problem of "market" and need for this or that profile of workers, where you live - in what part of world, how is economy in your country etc, etc. So, accepting advice - go to be doctor or go to be blacksmith depends, in my opinion, on various factors (individual, social and so), and as such it is not good for person to make conclusion on basis of his "religious insight" about answer; when will end come? So why to be doctor, in NW doctor will be without job :))))

If you choose wrong, and finally end as professor or plumber, do not blame ¬†god or ¬†devil for that, blame yourself, or¬†¬†your advisers if you need to blame others. Blame greedy people, bad circumstances, wrong day of your birthday, wrong country where you live, tornado or flood, ....and remember that you read in Bible, "¬†All share a common destiny‚ÄĒthe righteous and the wicked, the good and the bad,[a]¬†the clean and the unclean, those who offer sacrifices and those who do not." -- "So¬†I took¬†all¬†this¬†to¬†heart¬†and concluded¬†that¬†the righteous¬†and the wise,¬†as well as their deeds,¬†are in God‚Äôs¬†hands.¬†Man¬†does not¬†know¬†what¬†lies ahead, whether¬†love¬†or¬†hate"

"Their deeds, are in God’s hands" this is not light statement, but one of interpretation could be that your god will, wish, plan  for you is to be doctor and not window cleaner with half time job and other part in pioneer service with wt magazine. Can that be possible? Yes, if you believe in meaning of Ecl verse and statement that human are clay and god is potter, who shape you as he wish (or in harmony with facts, who you are at this moment, your deep state of heart, mind and other unknown facts that reveal who you really are)  :)))

Do not seriously accept all here said from me, I just gave to myself some freedom to interpret mix of bible, wt, worldly  and personal "insight".

About costs for study. It depends where you live. So, in some country it is not so difficult to pay some costs for high education. Again, perhaps you and your friends living in wrong country. :))) Need for this or that profile of workers are problematic and many jobs that not required more years in school are empty because young people are not interested to work simple jobs or skill jobs, but reasons for that are many and  people can see why, so here is no need to talk about that.

The Winter Olympics? The f***ing Winter Olympics.
So you're telling me this lady was one of the best athletes in her nation, good enough to go to the Olympic f***ing Games, a level of skill which already requires incredible dedication to reach. Which she passed on to go be a regular pioneer instead.
And this was back in the 80s since it's been over 30 years. Well sister, you passed on a rare, once in a lifetime opportunity to do something only a handful of people get a chance to, something which apparently you had already been training to do, in order to do something you could have started the next fucking year.
But I mean the end was probably so close, wasn't it? I'm sure you'll get extra Paradise for banging on people's doors to annoy them at 9:40am instead of the 15-ish months you'd have spent training doing a thing you apparently love to compete at Lake Placid or wherever.
      The f***ing Olympics, bullshit.

      Paragraph 16:
One does simply not join a sports club without any knowledge of what kind of sport it is!
"Hey newfound friend. Would you like to join our sports club?"
"Yeah.. Of course.. What is it all about?"
      "It's no big deal."
      "Is it soccer?"
      "Nah.."
      "Curling? Dart? Diving?"
"Join the club, and you'll find out.."
"Is it golf? Oh man.. I love golf.."
      "Just sign here.."
      [Few weeks later..]
"Oh.. It was MMA. I'm happy no one brought golf clubs, then.."
With that disability to critical thinking, before signing up to anything, I wouldn't consider "Christoph's" baptism as a true sign of "strong faith"..
