Today's Watchtower (Oct 6, 2019) And Double Speak

Today's 'lesson' was another classic example of WT giving 2 contrary instructions for JWs to follow.

On one hand they are to keep focused on the future and God's promises.

On the other hand they mustn't get too caught up because "expectation postponed can make the heart sick", then go on to show OLD, DEAD, and DYING JWs who have been waiting for the end to come forever.

So yeah, focus on the paradise fairy-tale, run with endurance, but don't keep focused on the past to avoid "expectation making the heart sick"?

That's literally telling them to develop selective memories of the past.

It's like a conman telling a 20 year old that he will give them $100,000,000 soon if they just keep working hard for him.

They put everything else on hold and work free for free until they are 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50. When their youth is now gone and they are obviously now frustrated and silently questioning the reward he tells them to keep focusing on the work going forward, completely forgetting their youth and missed opportunities.

This is a relatively undisguised attack on faith, on the Bible, and on those who would live by it. As such, I appreciate the frankness.

It is from someone who will close his eyes at 70, 80, or 90 years of age—with the expectation of eternal non-existence, and think it a very good bargain.

Paul prays “that we may be rescued from harmful and wicked men, for faith is not a possession of all people.”

No, it is not.
