      Un grupo de testigos de Jehovå realizó lo que podría considerarse como uno de los secuestros mås extraños hasta el momento, y es que privaron de la libertad a sus vecinos asegurando que se encontraban huyendo del fin del mundo, de acuerdo con reportes policiales de Alberta, en Canadå.
      Jacqueline Schaffter, juez de la corte provincial argumento que los tres detenidos, dos mujeres y un hombre que hasta el momento no han sido identificados, sufren de un extraño trastorno psicótico el cual hasta el momento no ha sido revelado y por el que deberån llevar un tratamiento para evitar hacerse daño a si mismos o a terceros.
      El extraño secuestro ocurrió en el mes de noviembre del año 2017 cuando cinco personas entre ellas dos menores de edad, fueron obligados a abandonar su hogar y abordar una camioneta junto a los testigos de Jehovå, cuatro de los cuales se encontraban completamente desnudos.
      El hombre y su familia lograron escapar y ayudaron a las autoridades a dar con los sospechosos quienes de inmediato fueron arrestados.
      Al declararse culpables por los delitos de secuestro y confinamiento ilegal, los detenidos recibieron como sentencia un año de servicio comunitario y dos de libertad condicional, ademås de tener que someterse a un tratamiento de consejería.

      Paramedics say one person is dead after two small planes collided in mid-air over Ottawa‘s west end just after 10 a.m. on Sunday morning.
      Ottawa police said that one of the aircraft crashed into a field near McGee Side Road just east of the 417 in Carp in rural west Ottawa. A spokesperson for Ottawa paramedics said an occupant of that plane was pronounced dead on the scene.
      The other aircraft was redirected to Ottawa International Airport and landed safely, sustaining only minor damage. No injuries were reported aboard that plane.
      It’s not known how many people were aboard each aircraft, or how exactly the collision occurred.

      Matt 5:13 - “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.”
      Salt was a strong catalyst in the physical and spiritual biblical world.  If we look into its great significance, we can then discern the meaning of Christ’s words.
      In Ezra 4:14, the letter written to Artaxerxes in Arabic, is read:
       “Now since we are UNDER OBLIGATION to the palace and it is not proper for us to see the king dishonored, we are sending this message to inform the king
”
      The original word for “under obligation” has salt in its basic meaning.
      mĕlach (Aramaic) - to eat salt, i.e. (generally) subsist:— have maintenance.
      Salt ‘maintains’ or preserves not only food but figuratively, represents a partnership, friendship, agreement or contract between parties.   Both the physical use of salt and its figurative meaning joined in creating traditions and customs set in Bible times. If a host chose to eat with his guests instead of standing, it represented a “salt covenant” or a solid friendship that was born, since salt seasoned the food.  The expression “there is salt between us” verbally signified the establishment of that friendship and its mutual loyalty.
      God referred to the nation of Israel as a people not “washed with water to make you clean, nor were you rubbed with salt (a cleanser for the skin; and even deeper, the soul) or wrapped in cloths” before He chose them as His nation.  Ezek 16:1-5  Once His people, they were purified through His laws and wisdom as long as they remained steadfast and ‘maintained’ their obligations to the Lord. Deut 30:15-18  Aside from a salt covenant with King David (2 Chron 13:5), the Bible speaks of God’s salt covenant made with His chosen priesthood established through Aaron.

      Salt is an unchanging element of the earth, an excellent protection from contamination, and is a purifier when it permeates the food.  The significance of adding salt to all the sacrifices, even grain offerings, represented pure, unadulterated worship to God in unchanging, enduring TRUTH.       I watched the Watchtower movie on Hezekiah, and after the event of Assyria breaking through the walls of Samaria, “Hezekiah” said, “these things came upon them because they sinned against God. The character “Isaiah” replied, “The king is right.  From King Omri’s day the people of Samaria (coincidently meaning, “watch tower”) have served false gods. They openly practiced idolatry.  ‘Jehovah’ foretold that these consequences would come upon them, but again and again they rejected his warnings.”
       JWs, can you see that this is why Watchtower’s reliance on a political “arm of flesh”(as the movie’s“Hezekiah” put it) to fight their battles in Russia will not be fruitful?   They have “gone down to Egypt".  Isa 31:1  Remember the final cut of the movie focuses on the words, “Jehovah rescues those who are loyal to him”.   The True God, YHWH has rescued those who are loyal and faithful only to Him and His Son in TRUTH, not to the Watchtower Idol, Satan’s fabrication to destroy the anointed ones.   
      For those of you who have awakened to Watchtower’s deceit, you will effectively discern the underhanded 'threat' that this movie reveals toward God’s anointed ones.  You may detect a few innuendos, relating the Assyrian army and its threats, to an army of “locusts” that today we realize has come against spiritual “Jerusalem” – the anointed ones.  Rev 9:1-6  Hello guest!       Recall when “Hezekiah” told the little girl holding a wounded turtle dove (a sacrificial offering for the temple),  “Ah yes, this is important.  You have to promise me not to keep the bird locked up in a cage.  When it can fly, set it free.”

      The Supreme Court of Canada Thursday heard arguments in a fight over a church’s “shunning” practice, and said it would release a ruling later, but the congregation involved and several other groups argued that the justices had no right to even take part in the fight.
      The fight is between Randy Wall, a real estate agent, and the Highwood congregation of the Jehovah’s Witnesses organization in Calgary.
      Wall was expelled from the congregation for getting drunk and not be properly repentant, court records said. He pursued a church appeals process, unsuccessfully, then went to court because he said the church’s “shunning,” that is, practice of not associating with him in any way, hurt his business.
      He explained his two occasions of drunkenness related to “the previous expulsion by the congregation of his 15-year-old daughter.”
      A lower court opinion explained, “Even though the daughter was a dependent child living at home, it was a mandatory church edict that the entire family shun aspects of their relationship with her. The respondent said the edicts of the church pressured the family to evict their daughter from the family home. This led to 
 much distress in the family.”
      The “much distress” eventually resulted in his drunkenness, Wall said.

      Wall submitted to the court arguments that about half his client base, members of various Jehovah’s Witnesses congregations, then refused to conduct business with him. He alleged the “disfellowship had an economic impact on the respondent.”
      During high court arguments Thursday, the congregation asked the justices to say that congregations are immune to such claims in the judicial system.
      The lower courts had ruled that the courts could play a role in determining if, and when, such circumstances rise to the level of violating civil rights or injuring a “disfellowshipped” party.
      The rulings from the Court of Queen’s Bench and the Alberta Court of Appeals said Wall’s case was subject to secular court jurisdiction.
      A multitude of religious and political organizations joined with the congregation in arguing that the Canada’s courts should not be involved.
      The Justice Center for Constitutional Freedoms said in a filing, “The wish or desire of one person to associate with an unwilling person (or an unwilling group) is not a legal right of any kind. For a court, or the government, to support such a ‘right’ violates the right of self-determination of the unwilling parties.”
      Previous case law has confirmed the ability of religious or private voluntary groups to govern themselves and dictate who can be a member.
      But previously rulings also reveal there is room for the court system to intervene when the question is one of property or civil rights.
      The Association for Reformed Political Action, described the case as having “profound implications for the separation of church and state.”
      Its position is that the court should keep hands off the argument.
      “Secular judges have no authority and no expertise to review a church membership decision,” said a statement from Andre Schutten, a spokesman for the group. “Church discipline is a spiritual matter falling within spiritual jurisdiction, not a legal matter falling within the courts’ civil jurisdiction. The courts should not interfere.”
      John Sikkema, staff lawyer for ARPA, said, “The issue in this appeal is jurisdiction. A state actor, including a court, must never go beyond its jurisdiction. The Supreme Court must consider what kind of authority the courts can or cannot legitimately claim. We argue that the civil government and churches each have limited and distinct spheres of authority. This basic distinction between civil and spiritual jurisdiction is a source of freedom and religious pluralism and a guard against civic totalism.”
      He continued, “Should the judiciary have the authority to decide who gets to become or remain a church member? Does the judiciary have the authority to decide who does or does not get to participate in the sacraments? Church discipline is a spiritual matter falling within spiritual jurisdiction, not a legal matter falling within the courts’ civil jurisdiction. The courts should not interfere. Here we need separation of church and state.”
      The Alberta Court of Appeal, however, suggested the fight was about more than ecclesiastical rules.
      “Because Jehovah’s Witnesses shun disfellowshipped members, his wife, other children and other Jehovah’s Witnesses were compelled to shun him,” that lower court decision said. “The respondent asked the appeal committee to consider the mental and emotional distress he and his family were under as a result of his duaghter’s disfellowship.”
      The church committee concluded he was “not sufficiently repentant.”
      The ruling said “the only basis for establishing jurisdiction over a decision of the church is when the complaint involves property and civil rights,” and that is what Wall alleged.
      “Accordingly, a court has jurisdiction to review the decision of a religious organization when a breach of the rules of natural justice is alleged.”

      A group of alleged sexual abuse survivors from across the country have filed a $66-million class action lawsuit against the Jehovah’s Witness, CityNews has learned.
      The victims are seeking $20 million for damages from sexual and mental abuse by elders, $20 million for failing to protect children, and another $20 million for breach of duty of care.

      The case involves Randy Wall, who was dismissed from a Jehovah’s Witness church for failing to repent of his religious offences: getting drunk on two occasions and verbally abusing his wife. Wall’s appeal to another church entity was unsuccessful. He then appealed to a court of law by means of “judicial review,” on the grounds that the church had denied him a proper hearing. 
      In Canadian law, in a process known as “judicial review,” a person can ask a court to “review” (i.e. hear) whether the decision of a “public actor” (such as a government licensing agency) was unfairly decided. Courts rarely review decisions of “private actors” (such as a church); they generally do so only if a private actor’s decision engages property or civil rights. In Wall’s case, the court had to determine whether the Jehovah’s Witness church’s decision involved property or contractual rights, which would then enable the court to review the church’s decision.
      "The church argued it was a private religious body, not a public body"
      The church argued it was a private religious body, not a public body, and that its decision did not affect Wall’s property or contractual rights. It also argued that its disciplinary procedure was a religious process involving prayer and scripture reading aimed at reconciling the relationship between Wall and the church. The lower courts both held that religious decisions can be reviewed by courts to determine whether a church gave a fair hearing, even if no property or contractual rights were engaged. However, both courts were also of the view that property rights were an issue in the case. The Supreme Court of Canada must now decide whether those courts were right. The Supreme Court reserved judgment after last week’s hearing; we can expect its decision early in the new year.
      Courts like to “fix things.” They naturally want to find resolutions to disputes; this is what they exist to do. However, courts have historically avoided getting involved in religious cases, recognizing that they lack the expertise and authority to settle religious disagreements. They handle legal cases, such as contractual disputes, but not religious cases that raise metaphysical truths, such as the definition of God.
      Wall argued his case did involve a “property right,” because his dismissal from his church meant the church members were no longer willing to do business with him. As a real estate agent, 50 per cent of his clientele were Jehovah’s Witnesses. His business folded from the loss of their support. He says there is a direct line of causation between his loss of church membership and business loss. It’s likely the case that one caused the other, but that doesn’t mean Wall’s claim is a legally enforceable property right. 
      "A church member is not required to patronize the business of a former church member"
      The reality is, Wall chose to limit his business to Jehovah’s Witnesses and took a personal risk in doing so. The church did not tell him to do so, and certainly there is no known legal principle that says a church is responsible for the economic losses that might flow from a loss of membership. A church member is not required to patronize the business of a former member. In the same way, we would not expect a former husband to maintain business with his ex-wife’s family.
      At last week’s hearing, Wall’s legal counsel tried to persuade the court that, if there are no grounds under Canadian law for the court to interfere in purely religious matters, the court should then consider adopting U.K. law, which does allow this type of review. “Good luck!” Justice Rosalie Abella quipped, prompting everyone to burst into laughter.
      That exchange suggested the court was not persuaded that it is time to change the law to allow courts to get tangled up in reviewing decisions of religious bodies. That would be a good thing, as courts don’t have the moral or legal authority or doctrinal expertise to decide such matters.
      This hearing occurred around the time of the 500-year anniversary of Martin Luther’s nailing of his 95 Theses to a church door in Wittenberg, Germany. If we have learned anything since then, it’s that the law does not need to apply to every nook and cranny of our lives – especially our religious affairs.

      The judicial committee of a congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses asked the Supreme Court of Canada today to rule that Canadian courts do not have the authority to review the expulsion of one of their members — arguing that judicial review by the courts should not extend to decisions by private and voluntary associations that have no effect on the public at large.
      The Highwood Congregation, located in northwest Calgary, brought its appeal to Ottawa after Randy Wall took the congregation to court for expelling him from the church. The congregation’s judicial committee “disfellowshipped” Wall in the spring of 2014 after his family reported to the group’s elders that he had been drunk on two occasions and was verbally and emotionally abusing them — and after determining he was not “not sufficiently repentant” for those actions.
      After three internal and unsuccessful appeals, Wall applied for judicial review of the congregation’s decision-making process, insisting it was flawed and that the congregation’s judicial committee had “breached the principles of natural justice and the duty to be fair.” Both the Court of Queen’s Bench and Court of Appeal in Alberta declared that it is within the jurisdiction of the superior court to review Wall’s case.
      The congregation’s appeal of those two rulings, heard by the Supreme Court Thursday morning, has attracted a lot of attention from legal experts and religious communities across the country. Echoing the congregation’s plea today in the packed Ottawa courtroom were 12 religious, political and civil liberties groups — all of them unanimous in arguing the top court should not interfere in the membership decisions of religious bodies.
      The consequences of such interference, they said, would be detrimental to the self-determination of religious groups.
      “It (would) fundamentally alter our nation and not for the better,” counsel for the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms said in court.
      “The wish or desire of one person to associate with an unwilling person (or an unwilling group) is not a legal right of any kind,” the group wrote in its written submission to the Supreme Court. “For a court, or the government, to support such a ‘right’ violates the right of self-determination of the unwilling parties.”
      This question of jurisdiction is one that has been explored and decided on by the courts — including the Supreme Court of Canada — in the past. Case law shows the top court has recognized the the autonomous ability of religious and private voluntary associations to govern their own affairs and dictate who can and cannot be a member of a congregation.
      The courts have determined, however, there is room to intervene in specific cases when a membership decision turns on property or civil rights — or is of “sufficient importance to deserve the intervention of the court.”
      Wall — who does not dispute the allegations against him that formed the basis of the congregation’s decision to kick him out — argues his case meets those requirements because his “disfellowship” caused him to lose business clients, suffer “significant economic harm” and experience fraught family relations.
      In return, the congregation argues that neither Wall’s property rights, nor his civil rights, were affected by their decision. Justice Russell Brown also remarked during the hearing that “one does not have a justiciable right to earn a living.”
      The congregation also argued that it did not ask or force its members to boycott Wall’s business — but people choose to do so in line with their religious convictions. Counsel for the congregation also said that “the door is not closed” to Wall and he can be reinstated in the congregation in the future.
      More generally, the congregation argued that it would be inappropriate for the courts to review the internal decision-making processes of religious groups because those processes are ecclesiastical.
      In a news release, the Association for Reformed Political Action — one of the 12 intervening groups — said the case before the Supreme Court has “profound implications for the separation of church and state” and it believes the court should maintain a hands-off approach to membership decision-making by religious groups.
      “Secular judges have no authority and no expertise to review a church membership decision,” the association’s director of law and policy, AndrĂ© Schutten, wrote in the statement. “Church discipline is a spiritual matter falling within spiritual jurisdiction, not a legal matter falling within the courts’ civil jurisdiction. The courts should not interfere.”
      The Canadian Muslim Lawyers Association took a slightly more nuanced position, arguing in its factum that “there will inevitably be cases where judicial intervention in the decisions of religious groups is ‘warranted'” but courts “should intervene 
 only in the rare case where required by a prevailing public interest.”
      Thursday’s hearing was heard by all nine justices on the Supreme Court bench. Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin said the court will reserve its decision after today’s hearing.

      A group of alleged sexual abuse survivors from across the country have filed a $66-million class action lawsuit against the Jehovah’s Witness, CityNews has learned.
      The suit accuses the religious organization of having rules and policies that protect child sex abusers and put children at risk.
      “The organization’s policy and protocol for dealing with allegations of sexual abuse is seriously flawed, and results in further harm to victims of sexual abuse and results in legitimate allegations of sexual abuse going unreported,” it alleges.
      “This is an issue that the wider community should be concerned with, and not just Jehovah’s Witnesses,” says Tricia Franginha. She says her first 14 years of life as a Jehovah’s Witness were filed with sexual abuse.
      “As a result of their procedures, when abuse allegations come forward, these sexual offenders are left at large,” Franginha says. “As most people know about Jehovah’s Witnesses, they are the ones who come to your door on Saturday mornings, when your kids are home, and for all you know, that person has offended more than once.”
      None of the allegations in this the suit have been tested in Ontario Superior Court. A spokesperson for the Jehovah’s Witness says that while the suit has been filed, the organization hasn’t officially received it yet, so they can’t comment on the details.
      “Jehovah’s Witnesses abhor child abuse and would never shield any perpetrator,” says spokesperson Mattieu Rozon. The organization also says congregation elders comply with child abuse reporting laws.
      Franginha says that when she went for help, she was shut down.
      “When I was around 12, I was told that I didn’t have two witnesses and I needed to respect my parents – not to talk about it,” she says.
      The need to have two witnesses corroborate allegations of abuse is singled out in the suit. People who have been sexually abused must present two credible witnesses to their abuse, explains Franginha, who adds that the eyewitnesses must be other Jehovah’s Witnesses in good standing in the church.
      “This, obviously, never happens,” she says. “The very nature of the crime is that it’s secret.”
      The suit also alleges that police are not called when allegations surface and instead they’re handled by church elders inside Kingdom Hall.
      “It is our information, based on people who contacted us, that the systems in place don’t guard against [abuse] happening, and when allegations are made, inadequate measures are in place to ensure that the complaint reaches the proper authorities,” says Bryan McPhadden, laywer at McPhadden Samac Tuovi, which is representing the victims.
      The victims are seeking $20 million for damages from sexual and mental abuse by elders, $20 million for failing to protect children, and another $20 million for breach of duty of care.

      A judge has authorized a Montreal hospital to perform blood transfusions to treat a 14-year-old teen with cancer, despite her refusal because she is a Jehovah's Witness.
      By allowing transfusions, the court ruled that it is lawful to protect children, sometimes "against themselves," when their decisions can be fatal.
      Under Quebec law, minors over the age of 14 can refuse certain health services. However, if the child’s parents or a hospital--in this case, the McGill University Health Centre--wants to administer those services, they can seek a judge’s permission.
      Superior Court Judge Lukasz Granosik said in his decision that the teen is "a brilliant, articulate girl" who is very successful at school and has a "maturity beyond her biological age," but that she was not yet mature enough to decide for herself, and was under pressure from her parents who are also Jehovah's Witnesses.
      Granosik also noted the girl spoke of death with "resignation," despite having a 97 percent chance of recovery if she underwent treatment.
      In June 2017, she found out she had Hodgkin's lymphoma, a form of cancer, and had to begin chemotherapy.
      This treatment, however, often requires blood transfusions. Without it, the patient could die or suffer irreversible neurological damage, her doctor said.
      Jehovah’s Witnesses do not accept blood transfusions.
      Judge Granosik’s decision was rendered on Sept. 1.

      A judge orders a 14-Year-old witness to be baptized with blood.
      A judge from Quebec has decided that a 14-Year-old Jehovah's witness who has cancer must undergo blood transfusions, despite his express desire not to receive them.
      The Adolescent, who is not named, learned in June that she has hodgkin's lymphoma, a rare form of cancer affecting white blood cells. He has an excellent survival rate, if it's early.
      Treatment involves chemotherapy, which often requires blood transfusions. But as Jehovah's witness, the faith of the girl states that it is against God's desires to consume or be transfused with any blood.
      The girl, who had just turned 14 at the time of her diagnosis, refused to accept any transfusion.
      Under the québec law, children under the age of 14 may reject certain health services. However, if the parents of the child or a hospital want to administer these services, they may request the permission of a judge.
      In his decision issued earlier this month, judge lukasz granosik noted that the girl had embraced his religion at an early age and was baptized at 12 years of his own agreement.
      McGill University Health Center, where the girl was being treated, argued that the girl was not mature enough to make those decisions and was under the pressure of her parents to refuse transfusions.
      In his judgement, granosik noted that the girl was brilliant and expressive, but also said he was talking about death "almost with resignation".
      Noting that the law is designed to protect children even from themselves, he ordered the girl to submit to any blood transfusion necessary to save his life
      The girl's Hematologist-oncologist says that the girl's prognosis with full treatment is excellent, with 97 percent of recovery possibilities.
      The hospital has promised to use blood transfusions only if the child's life is in danger, and use other methods to avoid transfusions when possible.
      No update on the current adolescent health status is known.

      Quebec provincial police are investigating allegations of child sexual abuse by two members of a Jehovah’s Witnesses congregation in Mont-Laurier in the Laurentians, Radio-CanadaÂ’s investigative program EnquÃÂȘte has learned.
      Both men have been sanctioned through the churchÂ’s internal disciplinary process for dealing with allegations of child abuse, but congregation elders did not share their findings with civil authorities.
      One of the men being investigated, Michel Courtemanche, who has been expelled from the congregation, was acquitted of charges of sexual assault and indecent assault in 1996.
      However, the Sûreté du Québec has renewed its investigation of Courtemanche and has begun investigating another man, former congregation elder Georges Leclerc, based on new evidence from at least seven alleged victims.
      Leclerc has been stripped of his status as an elder, but he has not been arrested or charged, and he refused to speak with EnquÃÂȘte.
      Courtemanche has not been arrested or charged as a result of the new investigation and denies the allegations against him. In an interview with EnquÃÂȘte, he pointed to his 1996 acquittal.
      “My answer is there was a judgment on this based on very precise facts, and I was acquitted,” he said.
      At least 7 potential victims, police say
      EnquÃÂȘte spoke with Pénélope Herbert, the woman whose allegations of repeated sexual assaults starting when she was just 10 led to CourtemancheÂ’s 1996 trial.  
      Carolle Poudrier, now in her mid-40s, also told EnquÃÂȘte of alleged sexual contact by Courtemanche, over a period of months when she was 11.
      In the case of Herbert, she said the assaults continued until she was 17 — even after her family moved from Mont-Laurier.
      “He would come to our house to say hello and would sleep over,” Herbert, now 42, told EnquÃÂȘte. “Those nights, he would come to my room. WeÂ’re talking total rape, those nights.”

      EnquÃÂȘte has learned the SQ has interviewed more than 40 people, of whom seven have been identified as potential victims of either Courtemanche or Leclerc.
      Four of the seven, including Herbert and Poudrier, have now filed formal complaints with police. SQ spokesperson Martine Asselin told EnquÃÂȘte theyÂ’re now seeking other possible victims and witnesses.
      “We’re looking to identify other potential victims who perhaps feel they’re alone and aren’t ready to talk,” Asselin said.
      “They should know that investigators are ready to meet with them and witnesses.”
      Both men were friends
      According to EnquÃÂȘte, Leclerc and Courtemanche were friends around the time HerbertÂ’s parents lodged an internal complaint with the congregation about the alleged assaults on their daughter.
      Leclerc was, as a congregation elder, a senior member of the congregation who is responsible for providing religious guidance and ruling on disciplinary matters.
      EnquÃÂȘte said Leclerc allegedly did not speak to Herbert to learn the details of her complaint, as required by JehovahÂ’s Witness protocols in such matters.
      Courtemanche was later reprimanded and allowed to remain in the congregation.

      Disillusioned with how the JehovahÂ’s Witnesses had handled her complaint, Herbert took her allegations to police in 1995.
      Courtemanche remained a JehovahÂ’s Witness after his acquittal but was expelled in 2014, EnquÃÂȘte found, after two other women filed internal complaints alleging he had assaulted them as minors.
      Leclerc remains with the Mont-Laurier congregation, but EnquÃÂȘte says he was stripped of his elder duties after at least three women filed complaints internally with the JehovahÂ’s Witnesses, alleging he had assaulted them when they were minors.
      Police, youth protection not notified of allegations
      According to EnquÃÂȘte, the first time police investigated HerbertÂ’s allegations against Courtemanche in the mid-1990s, they were not aware Carolle PoudrierÂ’s parents had also alleged Courtemanche had assaulted their daughter.
      Poudrier’s parents were members of a congregation in Terrebonne, just north of Montreal, and had filed their complaint there — not with Courtemanche’s congregation in Mont-Laurier.
      Poudrier alleged that Courtemanche, who was working for her dad, would make her sit on his lap so he could caress and tickle her, which made her uneasy. A few months later, he kissed her twice.
      “He asked me if IÂ’d ever kissed anyone, and he put his tongue in my mouth. I found that disgusting,” Poudrier told EnquÃÂȘte.
      After she told her parents and they complained, Poudrier was made to recount what happened to a congregational elder in the presence of her father.

      “I was really stressed talking about sexual matters with a man I didn’t know, in front of my father. It was embarrassing,” Poudrier said.
      She said the elder thanked her for telling him what had happened and said that “he was there to take care of it.”
      In a lawyer’s letter to Radio-Canada, the elder in question, John MacEwan, said he knew Poudrier’s family but denied meeting with them concerning allegations against Courtemanche.
      When asked by EnquÃÂȘte if the Terrebonne congregation had shared the complaint against Courtemanche with his Mont-Laurier congregation, MacEwan refused to answer.
      Neither police nor youth protection authorities were ever notified of the alleged assaults on Poudrier.
      The JehovahÂ’s Witnesses leadership, the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, has given preference to internal judicial procedures and protocols for dealing with matters such as child abuse.

      “In some jurisdictions, individuals who learn of an allegation of child abuse may be obligated by law to report the allegation to the secular authorities,” an internal memo to elders from 2016 reads.
      “In all cases, the victim and her parents have the absolute right to report an allegation to the authorities.”
      When it comes to sharing information with outside authorities, however, the leadership has insisted on maintaining confidentiality, citing privacy and the ecclesiastical privilege conferred by confessions.
      EnquÃÂȘte found there are as many as 30 steps a JehovahÂ’s Witness must take before that person is allowed to testify in court or furnish civil authorities with church documents, when it comes to matters of child abuse.
      “When you study the process, you realize itÂ’s really a process for avoiding, a system for protecting the reputation of the JehovahÂ’s Witnesses,”  said Marilou Lagacé, a former Witness interviewed by EnquÃÂȘte.
      New instructions regarding allegations of child sexual abuse
      A recent royal commission in Australia found the JehovahÂ’s Witness church there had recorded allegations of child sexual abuse against 1,006 members over a 60-year period. Not one allegation had been reported to authorities outside the church.
      With pressure mounting in the wake of that royal commission and other allegations of sexual abuse of children in its ranks, on Sept. 1, the Watchtower Society issued new instructions regarding allegations of child sexual abuse.
      Those instructions recognize child sexual abuse as a crime and assert that members should be “clearly informed that they have the right” to report an allegation of abuse to police.
      “The congregation’s handling of an accusation of child sexual abuse is not intended to replace the secular authority’s handling of the matter,” the Sept. 1 letter reads.
      “Therefore, the victim, her parents, or anyone else who reports such an allegation to the elders should be clearly informed that they have the right to report the matter to the secular authorities.
      Elders do not criticize anyone who chooses to make such a report.”

      Ontario, Canada, robots to operate cancer in Jehovah's witnesses.
      The patient, a 70-Year-old high risk of prostate cancer, was a Jehovah's witness.
      His religion was one of the reasons why he decided to undergo surgery in st. Joseph's healthcare in Hamilton, home to a robot named da Vinci, whose firm metal hands can remove a prostate with little risk of blood transfusions prohibited by man's faith.
      On a recent afternoon, the patient remained unconscious on an operating table while surgeon bobby shayegan and his team threw a camera and three surgical instruments controlled through small incisions in his abdomen.
      Dr... Shayegan settled in front of a three-dimensional screen, joined the two joysticks who controlled the tools inside his patient's pelvis and proceeded to cut, cauterize and sew until he released the man's prostate, pulling it out through one of the original incisions.
      There was no blood.
      " that was routine said Dr. Shayegan later, holding the gland the size of a plum tree that he and the robot had withdrawn together. Very routine.
      This is how nine out of every 10 prostatectomy take place in the United States. Robot-assisted surgery is not the path of the future there - it is the path of now.

      Que nos sacrifices de paix venant du coeur soit pur aux services de Dieu
      Le LĂ©vitique a Ă©tĂ© Ă©crit il y a 3 500 ans, mais JĂ©hovah l’a prĂ©servĂ© pour nous instruire  (Rom. 15:4). Ce livre nous aide Ă  comprendre ce que JĂ©hovah pense et ressent. Nous devrions donc nous y intĂ©resser de prĂšs. En fait, nous pouvons tirer beaucoup de leçons de ce livre inspirĂ© de Dieu. Examinons-en quatre.
      COMMENT OBTENIR L’APPROBATION DE JÉHOVAH
      PremiĂšre leçon : nous devons avoir l’approbation de JĂ©hovah si nous voulons qu’il accepte nos sacrifices. Chaque annĂ©e, le jour de la RĂ©conciliation, la nation d’IsraĂ«l se rassemblait et des sacrifices d’animaux Ă©taient offerts. Ces sacrifices rappelaient aux IsraĂ©lites qu’ils avaient besoin d’ĂȘtre purifiĂ©s de leurs pĂ©chĂ©s. Mais avant d’entrer dans le TrĂšs-Saint avec du sang provenant des sacrifices, le grand prĂȘtre devait d’abord accomplir une autre tĂąche, une tĂąche dont l’objectif Ă©tait bien plus important que le pardon des pĂ©chĂ©s de la nation.
      (Lire LĂ©vitique 16:12, 13.) Imagine la scĂšne : Nous sommes le jour de la RĂ©conciliation. Le grand prĂȘtre entre dans le tabernacle. C’est la premiĂšre des trois fois oĂč il va entrer dans le TrĂšs-Saint ce jour-lĂ . Dans une main, il tient un rĂ©cipient contenant de l’encens parfumĂ©, et dans l’autre un rĂ©cipient Ă  feu en or rempli de braises. Il s’arrĂȘte un instant devant le rideau du TrĂšs-Saint. Puis, avec un profond respect, il entre et va se placer devant l’arche de l’Alliance. De façon figurĂ©e, il se trouve en prĂ©sence de JĂ©hovah lui-mĂȘme ! Puis il verse avec soin l’encens sacrĂ© sur les braises, et la piĂšce se remplit d’un parfum dĂ©licat. Plus tard, il va de nouveau entrer dans le TrĂšs-Saint avec du sang provenant des sacrifices pour le pĂ©chĂ©. Remarque qu’il brĂ»le l’encens avant de prĂ©senter le sang des sacrifices pour le pĂ©chĂ©
      Qu’apprenons-nous de ce que le grand prĂȘtre devait faire avec l’encens le jour de la RĂ©conciliation ? La Bible montre que, pour JĂ©hovah, les priĂšres de ses fidĂšles adorateurs sont comparables Ă  de l’encens (Ps. 141:2 ; RĂ©v. 5:8). Comme nous venons de le voir, c’était avec un profond respect que le grand prĂȘtre apportait l’encens jusque devant l’arche de l’Alliance, qui symbolisait la prĂ©sence de JĂ©hovah. De la mĂȘme façon, quand nous nous approchons de JĂ©hovah par la priĂšre, nous le faisons avec beaucoup de respect. Nous sommes trĂšs reconnaissants au CrĂ©ateur de l’univers de nous permettre de nous approcher de lui comme un enfant le fait avec son pĂšre (Jacq. 4:8). Il accepte que nous soyons ses amis ! (Ps. 25:14). Nous apprĂ©cions tellement cet honneur que nous ne voudrions jamais le dĂ©cevoir.
      Souviens-toi que le grand prĂȘtre devait brĂ»ler l’encens avant de pouvoir offrir les sacrifices. Ainsi, il faisait le nĂ©cessaire pour avoir l’approbation de Dieu au moment oĂč il les offrirait. Qu’est-ce que cela nous apprend au sujet de JĂ©sus ? Avant de pouvoir offrir sa vie en sacrifice, il a fallu qu’il fasse quelque chose d’essentiel, dont l’objectif Ă©tait bien plus important que le salut des humains. Qu’a-t-il dĂ» faire ? Il a dĂ» rester fidĂšle Ă  Dieu et obĂ©ir Ă  ses commandements durant toute sa vie sur terre, ce qui permettrait Ă  JĂ©hovah d’accepter son sacrifice. En restant intĂšgre, JĂ©sus prouverait qu’accomplir la volontĂ© de JĂ©hovah est la meilleure façon de vivre. Et il justifierait la souverainetĂ© de son PĂšre : il apporterait la preuve que sa façon de gouverner est bonne et juste.
      Durant sa vie sur la terre, JĂ©sus a toujours obĂ©i parfaitement aux normes de JĂ©hovah. Aucune tentation ni aucune Ă©preuve, ni mĂȘme la mort atroce qui l’attendait, n’a pu affaiblir son dĂ©sir de dĂ©fendre la façon de gouverner de son PĂšre (Phil. 2:8). Dans l’épreuve, JĂ©sus priait « avec des cris puissants et des larmes » (HĂ©b. 5:7). Ses priĂšres intenses venaient d’un cƓur fidĂšle Ă  Dieu, et elles renforçaient son dĂ©sir de lui rester obĂ©issant. Pour JĂ©hovah, les priĂšres de JĂ©sus Ă©taient comme le parfum dĂ©licat de l’encens. Par sa façon de vivre, JĂ©sus a grandement rĂ©joui le cƓur de son PĂšre et a justifiĂ© sa souverainetĂ©.
      Nous imiterons JĂ©sus en faisant le maximum pour rester fidĂšles Ă  JĂ©hovah et obĂ©ir Ă  ses lois. Et dans l’épreuve, comme nous voulons lui plaire, nous le supplierons de nous aider. Nous montrerons alors que nous soutenons sa souverainetĂ©. Nous savons qu’il ne rĂ©pondra pas Ă  nos priĂšres si nous avons une conduite qu’il n’approuve pas. Cependant, si nous respectons ses normes, nous pouvons ĂȘtre sĂ»rs que nos priĂšres sincĂšres seront pour lui comme de l’encens au parfum dĂ©licat. Nous pouvons Ă©galement ĂȘtre certains que notre fidĂ©litĂ© et notre obĂ©issance rĂ©jouiront notre PĂšre cĂ©leste (Prov. 27:11).
      NOUS SERVONS DIEU PAR RECONNAISSANCE ET PAR AMOUR
      DeuxiĂšme leçon : nous servons JĂ©hovah parce que nous Ă©prouvons pour lui de la reconnaissance. Pour dĂ©velopper cette idĂ©e, parlons des sacrifices de paix, un autre aspect important du vrai culte dans l’ancien IsraĂ«l. Dans le livre du LĂ©vitique, nous apprenons qu’un IsraĂ©lite pouvait offrir un sacrifice de paix « pour exprimer sa reconnaissance » Ă  Dieu (LĂ©v. 7:11-13, 16-18). Il offrait ce sacrifice, non pas parce qu’il Ă©tait obligĂ© de le faire, mais parce qu’il le voulait. Il s’agissait donc d’un sacrifice qu’une personne faisait volontairement parce qu’elle aimait son Dieu, JĂ©hovah. Cette personne ainsi que sa famille et les prĂȘtres mangeaient ensuite la viande de l’animal sacrifiĂ©. Mais certaines parties de l’animal Ă©taient rĂ©servĂ©es exclusivement Ă  JĂ©hovah. Lesquelles ?
      TroisiĂšme leçon : par amour pour JĂ©hovah, nous lui donnons ce que nous avons de meilleur. JĂ©hovah considĂ©rait la graisse comme la meilleure partie de l’animal. Il a aussi fait savoir que d’autres parties de l’animal, comme les rognons, Ă©taient particuliĂšrement prĂ©cieuses pour lui (lire LĂ©vitique 3:6, 12, 14-16). Cela lui faisait donc trĂšs plaisir quand un IsraĂ©lite lui offrait volontairement ces parties de l’animal et la graisse. Cet IsraĂ©lite montrait qu’il dĂ©sirait vraiment lui offrir le meilleur. De la mĂȘme façon, JĂ©sus a offert Ă  JĂ©hovah ce qu’il avait de meilleur en le servant de toute son Ăąme et par amour (Jean 14:31). Pour JĂ©sus, faire la volontĂ© de son PĂšre Ă©tait un plaisir ; il avait un amour profond pour la loi de Dieu (Ps. 40:8). Comme cela a dĂ» rĂ©jouir JĂ©hovah de voir son Fils le servir avec autant d’enthousiasme !
      Comme ces sacrifices de paix, notre service pour JĂ©hovah est une façon de lui montrer ce que nous ressentons pour lui. Nous lui donnons ce que nous avons de meilleur, et nous le faisons parce que nous l’aimons de tout notre cƓur. Comme cela doit le rĂ©jouir de voir des millions de personnes le servir avec plaisir parce qu’elles ont un profond amour pour lui et pour ses normes ! Cela nous rĂ©conforte de savoir que JĂ©hovah voit non seulement nos actions, mais aussi nos mobiles, et qu’il y accorde de la valeur. Par exemple, si tu es ĂągĂ© et que tu ne peux plus en faire autant qu’avant, sois certain que JĂ©hovah comprend tes limites. Tu penses peut-ĂȘtre que tu n’as pas grand-chose Ă  lui offrir. Mais lui, il voit que ton profond amour pour lui te pousse Ă  faire ce que tu peux. Il accepte avec plaisir ce que tu as de mieux Ă  lui donner.
      Que nous apprennent les sacrifices de paix ? Alors que le feu consumait les meilleures parties de l’animal, la fumĂ©e s’élevait vers le ciel et cela faisait trĂšs plaisir Ă  JĂ©hovah. Tu peux donc ĂȘtre sĂ»r que JĂ©hovah est vraiment content de toi quand tu fais tout ce que tu peux pour le servir (Col. 3:23). Imagine son sourire d’approbation. Il considĂšre comme trĂšs prĂ©cieux les efforts que tu fournis Ă  son service, qu’ils soient grands ou petits, et il ne les oubliera jamais (Mat. 6:20 ; HĂ©b. 6:10).
      JÉHOVAH BÉNIT SON ORGANISATION
      QuatriĂšme leçon : JĂ©hovah bĂ©nit la partie terrestre de son organisation. Rappelle-toi ce qui est arrivĂ© en 1512 avant notre Ăšre, quand le tabernacle a Ă©tĂ© dressĂ© au pied du mont SinaĂŻ (Ex. 40:17). MoĂŻse a prĂ©sidĂ© une cĂ©rĂ©monie durant laquelle Aaron et ses fils ont Ă©tĂ© Ă©tablis prĂȘtres. La nation d’IsraĂ«l s’était rassemblĂ©e pour voir les prĂȘtres prĂ©senter leurs premiers sacrifices (LĂ©v. 9:1-5). Comment JĂ©hovah a-t-il montrĂ© qu’il approuvait cette nouvelle prĂȘtrise ? Alors qu’Aaron et MoĂŻse bĂ©nissaient le peuple, JĂ©hovah a fait descendre du ciel un feu qui a complĂštement consumĂ© le sacrifice sur l’autel (LĂ©vitique 9:23,24)
      Dans quel objectif JĂ©hovah a-t-il provoquĂ© ce spectacle impressionnant Ă  la fin de la cĂ©rĂ©monie durant laquelle Aaron a Ă©tĂ© Ă©tabli grand prĂȘtre ? Il voulait montrer par lĂ  qu’il soutenait pleinement la prĂȘtrise aaronique. Et les IsraĂ©lites ont clairement vu qu’elle avait son approbation. Ils avaient donc toutes les raisons de la soutenir eux aussi. Est-ce important pour nous de savoir cela ? Oui ! La prĂȘtrise en IsraĂ«l n’était qu’une « ombre » d’une prĂȘtrise bien meilleure. Le Christ est le Grand PrĂȘtre par excellence et 144 000 humains seront prĂȘtres et rois Ă  ses cĂŽtĂ©s au ciel (HĂ©b. 4:14 ; 8:3-5 ; 10:1).
      En 1919, JĂ©sus a choisi un petit groupe de frĂšres oints pour former l’« esclave fidĂšle et avisĂ© ». Cet esclave dirige la prĂ©dication et donne aux disciples du Christ « leur nourriture au bon moment » (Mat. 24:45). Avons-nous des preuves que Dieu l’approuve
      Satan et son monde font tout ce qu’ils peuvent pour empĂȘcher cet esclave d’assumer ses responsabilitĂ©s, Ă  tel point que, sans l’aide de Dieu, il n’y arriverait pas. Toutefois, malgrĂ© deux guerres mondiales, des persĂ©cutions incessantes, des crises Ă©conomiques mondiales et des traitements injustes, il continue de fournir de la nourriture spirituelle aux disciples du Christ sur la terre. Pense Ă  toute la nourriture spirituelle qui est aujourd’hui disponible gratuitement dans plus de 900 langues ! C’est une preuve incontestable du soutien de Dieu. Et voici une autre preuve encore : la prĂ©dication. La bonne nouvelle est prĂȘchĂ©e « sur toute la terre » ! (Mat. 24:14). Il n’y a pas de doute, JĂ©hovah guide et bĂ©nit abondamment son organisation.
      Demandons-nous : « Suis-je reconnaissant Ă  Dieu de pouvoir collaborer avec la partie terrestre de son organisation ? » JĂ©hovah nous donne des preuves qu’il la soutient, des preuves aussi convaincantes que le feu qui est descendu du ciel Ă  l’époque de MoĂŻse et d’Aaron. Nous avons de nombreuses raisons d’ĂȘtre reconnaissants Ă  notre Dieu (1 Thess. 5:18, 19). Comment pouvons-nous soutenir l’organisation qu’il utilise ? En suivant les conseils basĂ©s sur la Bible qui nous sont donnĂ©s dans nos publications, aux rĂ©unions et aux assemblĂ©es, ainsi qu’en participant le plus possible Ă  l’activitĂ© de prĂ©dication et d’enseignement (1 Cor. 15:58).
      Soyons dĂ©terminĂ©s Ă  appliquer les leçons que nous avons tirĂ©es du livre du LĂ©vitique. Cherchons Ă  obtenir l’approbation de JĂ©hovah pour qu’il accepte nos sacrifices. Servons-le par reconnaissance. Continuons de lui donner par amour ce que nous avons de meilleur. Et soutenons de tout notre cƓur l’organisation qu’il bĂ©nit. Nous lui montrerons alors que nous chĂ©rissons l’honneur de le servir et d’ĂȘtre ses TĂ©moins !

      Soyons remplis de gratitude envers autrui 
       
      AVEZ-VOUS dĂ©jĂ  reçu un petit mot de reconnaissance auquel vous ne vous attendiez pas ? Si c’est le cas, cela vous a certainement fait chaud au cƓur. AprĂšs tout, il est naturel de vouloir ĂȘtre apprĂ©ciĂ©. — Matthieu 25:19-23.
      Toute expression de gratitude tend Ă  renforcer les liens entre celui qui en est l’auteur et celui qui en est le destinataire. En outre, quiconque manifeste de la gratitude suit les traces de JĂ©sus Christ, qui n’a jamais manquĂ© de remarquer les belles Ɠuvres des autres. — Marc 14:3-9 ; Luc 21:1-4.
      Malheureusement, exprimer sa gratitude, de vive voix ou par Ă©crit, semble se faire de plus en plus rare. La Bible avait annoncĂ© que, durant “ les derniers jours ”, les hommes seraient “ ingrats ”. (2 TimothĂ©e 3:1, 2.) Si nous n’y prenons pas garde, cette tendance si rĂ©pandue aujourd’hui risque d’étouffer en nous tout sentiment de reconnaissance.
      Quelles mesures concrĂštes les parents peuvent-ils adopter pour enseigner Ă  leurs enfants Ă  manifester de la reconnaissance ? À qui devrions-nous exprimer notre gratitude ? Et pourquoi devrions-nous ĂȘtre reconnaissants, mĂȘme si ceux qui nous entourent se rĂ©vĂšlent ingrats ?
      Dans le cercle familial
      Les parents ne mĂ©nagent pas leurs efforts pour subvenir aux besoins de leurs enfants. Mais il leur arrive d’avoir le sentiment que ces efforts ne sont pas apprĂ©ciĂ©s Ă  leur juste valeur. Que faire pour remĂ©dier Ă  cette situation ? Trois paramĂštres sont Ă  prendre en compte.
      1) L’exemple. Comme cela se vĂ©rifie souvent en matiĂšre d’éducation, la rĂ©ussite passe par l’exemple. La Bible disait jadis d’une IsraĂ©lite travailleuse : “ Ses fils ont voulu la fĂ©liciter. ” OĂč ces enfants avaient-ils appris Ă  exprimer leur reconnaissance ? La suite du verset nous Ă©claire : “ Son mari est le premier Ă  la louer. ” (Proverbes 31:28, Bible des Peuples). Les parents qui s’expriment de la reconnaissance montrent Ă  leurs enfants que ce genre de tĂ©moignage procure du plaisir Ă  celui qui en est l’objet, amĂ©liore les relations familiales et constitue un signe de maturitĂ©.
      Stephen, un pĂšre de famille, dĂ©clare : “ Je me suis efforcĂ© de donner l’exemple Ă  mes enfants en remerciant ma femme pour le dĂźner. ” Qu’en est-il rĂ©sultĂ© ? “ Mes deux filles l’ont remarquĂ©, et cela leur a fait prendre conscience de l’importance de se montrer reconnaissant ”, dit-il. Si vous ĂȘtes mariĂ©, remerciez-vous rĂ©guliĂšrement votre conjoint pour les tĂąches quotidiennes qu’il accomplit et qui auraient vite fait de passer inaperçues ? Dites-vous merci Ă  vos enfants, mĂȘme lorsqu’ils font ce qu’on attend d’eux ?
      2) L’éducation. Le sentiment de reconnaissance est comme une fleur. Il a besoin d’ĂȘtre cultivĂ© pour produire les meilleurs rĂ©sultats possibles. Comment les parents peuvent-ils aider leurs enfants Ă  cultiver et Ă  exprimer de la reconnaissance ? Le sage roi Salomon a mis en Ă©vidence un principe clĂ© lorsqu’il a Ă©crit : “ Le cƓur du juste mĂ©dite pour rĂ©pondre. ” — Proverbes 15:28.
      Pouvez-vous apprendre Ă  vos enfants Ă  songer aux efforts et Ă  la gĂ©nĂ©rositĂ© qui ont prĂ©cĂ©dĂ© chaque cadeau qu’ils reçoivent ? Ce genre de rĂ©flexion constitue le sol dans lequel la gratitude s’enracine. Maria, qui a Ă©levĂ© trois enfants, constate : “ Cela prend du temps d’expliquer Ă  ses enfants tout ce que signifie recevoir un cadeau : qu’une personne a pensĂ© Ă  eux en particulier et qu’elle a souhaitĂ© leur montrer Ă  quel point elle s’intĂ©resse Ă  eux. Mais je suis convaincue que ça en vaut la peine. ” GrĂące Ă  de tels Ă©changes, les enfants apprennent non seulement quoi dire pour exprimer leur reconnaissance, mais aussi pourquoi ils doivent le faire.
      Il est sage, pour des parents, de faire en sorte que leurs enfants n’aient pas le sentiment que tout ce qu’ils reçoivent de bon leur revient, finalement, de droit. L’avertissement figurant en Proverbes 29:21 à propos de la maniùre de traiter son serviteur s’applique tout autant aux enfants : “ Si l’on gñte son serviteur dùs sa jeunesse, par la suite dans sa vie il deviendra un ingrat. ”
      Comment aider de trĂšs jeunes enfants Ă  tĂ©moigner de la reconnaissance ? Linda, mĂšre de trois enfants, explique : “ Mon mari et moi avons encouragĂ© nos enfants Ă  s’associer Ă  nous quand nous Ă©crivions des cartes de remerciement, en y joignant un dessin ou en les signant. ” Naturellement, le dessin sera peut-ĂȘtre simple, et l’écriture approximative, mais la leçon que les enfants tireront de ce geste restera gravĂ©e en eux.
      3) La persĂ©vĂ©rance. Nous avons tous une tendance innĂ©e Ă  l’égoĂŻsme, qui risque d’étouffer en nous tout Ă©lan de gratitude (GenĂšse 8:21 ; Matthieu 15:19). Mais la Bible adresse aux serviteurs de Dieu cette exhortation : “ Vous devez ĂȘtre renouvelĂ©s dans la force qui anime votre intelligence et revĂȘtir la personnalitĂ© nouvelle qui a Ă©tĂ© crĂ©Ă©e selon la volontĂ© de Dieu. ” — ÉphĂ©siens 4:23, 24.
      Les parents expĂ©rimentĂ©s savent, toutefois, qu’aider les enfants Ă  “ revĂȘtir la personnalitĂ© nouvelle ” est plus facile Ă  dire qu’à faire. Stephen, citĂ© plus haut, dĂ©clare : “ Il nous semblait que nos filles mettaient du temps Ă  dire spontanĂ©ment merci, sans qu’on ait besoin de le leur rappeler. ” Mais lui et sa femme n’ont pas abandonnĂ©. “ Notre persĂ©vĂ©rance a payĂ©, poursuit Stephen : nos filles ont retenu la leçon. Aujourd’hui, nous sommes fiers de la maniĂšre dont elles manifestent leur gratitude aux autres. ”
      Envers les amis et le prochain
      Lorsque nous oublions de dire merci, ce n’est pas forcĂ©ment par manque de reconnaissance, mais parfois simplement par nĂ©gligence. En dĂ©finitive, du moment que nous Ă©prouvons de la gratitude, est-il si important que cela de l’exprimer ? Pour rĂ©pondre Ă  cette question, considĂ©rons ce qui s’est passĂ© un jour oĂč JĂ©sus a guĂ©ri des lĂ©preux.
      Alors qu’il se rendait Ă  JĂ©rusalem, JĂ©sus a rencontrĂ© dix hommes atteints de lĂšpre. La Bible relate : “ Ils Ă©levĂšrent la voix et dirent : ‘ JĂ©sus, Instructeur, aie pitiĂ© de nous ! ’ Et lorsqu’il les vit, il leur dit : ‘ Allez vous montrer aux prĂȘtres. ’ Or, comme ils s’en allaient, leur purification eut lieu. L’un d’eux, quand il vit qu’il Ă©tait guĂ©ri, revint sur ses pas, glorifiant Dieu d’une voix forte. Et il tomba sur sa face aux pieds de JĂ©sus, en le remerciant ; or, c’était un Samaritain. ” — Luc 17:11-16.
      JĂ©sus n’a-t-il accordĂ© aucune importance au fait que les autres n’aient pas exprimĂ© de gratitude ? Le rĂ©cit poursuit : “ En rĂ©ponse JĂ©sus dit : ‘ Les dix ont Ă©tĂ© purifiĂ©s, n’est-ce pas ? OĂč sont donc les neuf autres ? Ne s’est-il trouvĂ© personne pour revenir rendre gloire Ă  Dieu, que cet homme d’une autre nation ? ’ ” — Luc 17:17, 18.
      Les neuf autres lĂ©preux n’étaient pas des hommes mĂ©chants. Auparavant, ils avaient ouvertement exprimĂ© leur foi en JĂ©sus et avaient suivi de bon grĂ© ses instructions, qui exigeaient qu’ils se rendent Ă  JĂ©rusalem pour se montrer aux prĂȘtres. Or, mĂȘme s’ils ont indĂ©niablement Ă©prouvĂ© une profonde gratitude pour ce que JĂ©sus avait fait, ils ne la lui ont pas exprimĂ©e. Leur comportement a déçu Christ. Et nous ? Quand quelqu’un se montre bon Ă  notre Ă©gard, sommes-nous prompts Ă  dire merci et, si cela s’y prĂȘte, Ă  lui montrer notre reconnaissance en lui envoyant une petite carte ?
      La Bible dit que l’amour “ ne fait rien d’inconvenant. Il ne cherche pas son propre intĂ©rĂȘt ”. (1 Corinthiens 13:5, Bible du Semeur.) Par consĂ©quent, un tĂ©moignage de reconnaissance donnĂ© avec sincĂ©ritĂ© non seulement traduit un respect des convenances, mais aussi est une preuve d’amour. Comme nous l’apprend l’exemple des lĂ©preux, ceux qui souhaitent plaire Ă  Christ doivent exprimer un tel amour et une telle reconnaissance Ă  tous, indĂ©pendamment de leur nationalitĂ©, de leur race ou de leur religion.
      Posez-vous la question : ‘ Quand ai-je pour la derniĂšre fois remerciĂ© un voisin, un collĂšgue de travail, un camarade de classe, un membre du personnel hospitalier, un commerçant ou qui que ce soit d’autre qui me soit venu en aide ? ’ Pourquoi ne pas noter pendant un jour ou deux le nombre de fois oĂč vous dites effectivement merci ou exprimez votre reconnaissance d’une façon ou d’une autre  ? Peut-ĂȘtre verrez-vous la nĂ©cessitĂ© de vous amĂ©liorer dans certains domaines.
      Bien entendu, celui qui mĂ©rite le plus de remerciements de notre part, c’est JĂ©hovah Dieu. De lui vient “ tout beau don et tout prĂ©sent parfait ”. (Jacques 1:17.) À quand remonte la derniĂšre fois oĂč vous avez sincĂšrement remerciĂ© Dieu pour avoir fait quelque chose de particulier en votre faveur ? — 1 Thessaloniciens 5:17, 18.
      Pourquoi se montrer reconnaissant mĂȘme quand les autres sont ingrats ?
      Nos tĂ©moignages de reconnaissance ne seront pas forcĂ©ment payĂ©s de retour. Par consĂ©quent, pourquoi manifester notre gratitude si nous sommes les seuls Ă  le faire ? ArrĂȘtons-nous simplement sur une bonne raison d’agir ainsi.
      Faire du bien Ă  ceux qui ne sont pas enclins Ă  la gratitude, c’est imiter notre CrĂ©ateur bienveillant, JĂ©hovah Dieu. Que beaucoup ne soient pas sensibles Ă  l’amour que JĂ©hovah leur tĂ©moigne ne l’empĂȘche pas de leur faire du bien (Romains 5:8 ; 1 Jean 4:9, 10). Il fait “ lever son soleil sur les mĂ©chants et sur les bons et [...] fait pleuvoir sur les justes et sur les injustes ”. Si, bien que vivant dans un monde ingrat, nous nous efforçons d’éprouver et d’exprimer de la gratitude, nous nous montrerons “ fils de [notre] PĂšre qui est dans les cieux ”. — Matthieu 5:45.

      Enracinons nous dans la foi comme un arbre luxuriant.
      EN ISRAËL pousse un arbre presque indestructible. MĂȘme lorsqu’on l’abat, sa souche ne tarde pas Ă  produire de nouvelles pousses. Par ailleurs, ses fruits fournissent une grande quantitĂ© d’huile utile tant pour la cuisine et l’éclairage que pour l’hygiĂšne et les soins de beautĂ©.
      Selon une parabole des temps bibliques consignĂ©e dans le livre des Juges, “ un jour les arbres s’en allĂšrent pour oindre un roi sur eux ”. Quel arbre choisirent-ils ? Le rĂ©sistant et fertile olivier. — Juges 9:8.
      Il y a plus de 3 500 ans, le prophĂšte MoĂŻse dĂ©crivait IsraĂ«l comme “ un bon pays, [...] un pays d’olives ”. (DeutĂ©ronome 8:7, 8.) Aujourd’hui encore, du pied du mont HermĂŽn Ă  la campagne de BĂ©ershĂ©ba en passant par la plaine cĂŽtiĂšre du SharĂŽn, les pentes rocailleuses de la Samarie et les vallĂ©es fertiles de la GalilĂ©e, le paysage est parsemĂ© d’oliveraies du nord au sud.
      Les rĂ©dacteurs de la Bible ont souvent parlĂ© de l’olivier dans un sens figurĂ© pour illustrer, par exemple, la misĂ©ricorde de Dieu, la promesse de la rĂ©surrection ou encore le bonheur familial. L’examen de quelques-unes de ses caractĂ©ristiques nous aidera Ă  mieux comprendre ces rĂ©fĂ©rences et Ă  apprĂ©cier cet arbre exceptionnel qui fait honneur au CrĂ©ateur. — Psaume 148:7, 9.
      Un arbre robuste
      L’olivier n’est pas spĂ©cialement impressionnant Ă  premiĂšre vue. Il n’a pas la majestĂ© des vertigineux cĂšdres du Liban, son bois n’a pas la qualitĂ© du genĂ©vrier ni ses fleurs la beautĂ© de celles de l’amandier (Chant de Salomon 1:17 ; Amos 2:9). En fait, sa partie la plus importante demeure invisible, puisque le secret de sa rĂ©sistance et de sa grande prolificitĂ© rĂ©side dans ses longues racines, qui peuvent s’enfoncer jusqu’à six mĂštres sous terre et rayonner plus loin encore.
      Ses racines permettent Ă  l’olivier poussant sur des versants rocailleux de survivre Ă  la sĂ©cheresse quand d’autres arbres situĂ©s au fond de la vallĂ©e sont dĂ©jĂ  morts de soif. Elles lui permettent Ă©galement de produire des olives des siĂšcles durant, mĂȘme lorsque son tronc noueux ne semble plus bon qu’à servir de bois de chauffage. Tout ce dont cet arbre rustique a besoin, c’est de place pour pousser et d’un sol aĂ©rĂ© pour respirer, loin des mauvaises herbes et autres plantes qui peuvent abriter des parasites. Si ces conditions simples sont rĂ©unies, un seul arbre peut fournir jusqu’à 60 litres d’huile par an.
      Cette huile Ă©tait manifestement apprĂ©ciĂ©e des IsraĂ©lites. Ils s’en servaient pour Ă©clairer leur intĂ©rieur Ă  l’aide de lampes Ă  mĂšches, pour cuisiner, pour protĂ©ger leur peau du soleil et pour fabriquer du savon (LĂ©vitique 24:2). Étant donnĂ© que le blĂ©, le vin et l’olive constituaient les principales productions de la rĂ©gion, une mauvaise rĂ©colte d’olives Ă©tait une catastrophe pour une famille israĂ©lite. — DeutĂ©ronome 7:13 ; Habaqouq 3:17.
      Cependant, en gĂ©nĂ©ral, l’huile d’olive ne manquait pas. Sans doute MoĂŻse a-t-il dĂ©crit la Terre promise comme “ un pays d’olives ” parce que l’olivier y Ă©tait l’arbre le plus cultivĂ©. Au XIXe siĂšcle, le naturaliste Henry Tristram a d’ailleurs qualifiĂ© l’olivier d’arbre emblĂ©matique de la rĂ©gion ”. En raison de sa valeur et de sa profusion, l’huile d’olive servait mĂȘme de moyen de paiement dans tout le bassin mĂ©diterranĂ©en. De lĂ , l’allusion de JĂ©sus Christ Ă  une dette de “ cent baths d’huile d’olive ”. — Luc 16:5, 6.
      “ Comme des plants d’olivier ”
      L’olivier illustre de façon appropriĂ©e les bĂ©nĂ©dictions divines. Comment l’homme qui craint Dieu serait-il rĂ©compensĂ© ? “ Ta femme sera comme une vigne qui porte du fruit tout au fond de ta maison, a chantĂ© un psalmiste. Tes fils seront comme des plants d’olivier autour de ta table. ” (Psaume 128:3). Que sont ces “ plants d’olivier ”, et pourquoi le psalmiste les comparait-il Ă  des fils ?
      L’olivier a ceci de particulier que de nouvelles pousses sortent continuellement de la base de son tronc. Lorsque, en raison de son Ăąge, le tronc principal ne produit plus autant qu’auparavant, les cultivateurs peuvent laisser plusieurs plants, ou nouvelles pousses, se dĂ©velopper jusqu’à devenir partie intĂ©grante de l’arbre. Au bout d’un certain temps, trois ou quatre nouveaux troncs vigoureux entoureront celui d’origine, comme des fils autour d’une table. Ces plants issus de la mĂȘme souche produisent ensemble une grande quantitĂ© d’olives.
      Cette caractĂ©ristique de l’olivier illustre bien la façon dont les fils et les filles peuvent devenir fermes dans la foi, grĂące aux robustes racines spirituelles de leurs parents. En grandissant, eux aussi portent du fruit et Ă©paulent leurs parents, qui se rĂ©jouissent de les voir servir JĂ©hovah Ă  leurs cĂŽtĂ©s. — Proverbes 15:20.
      “ Il existe un espoir mĂȘme pour un arbre ”
      Un pĂšre ĂągĂ© qui sert JĂ©hovah se rĂ©jouit que ses enfants adorent Dieu. Mais quelle tristesse quand ce pĂšre finit par ‘ s’en aller par le chemin de toute la terre ’ ! (1 Rois 2:2.) La Bible nous aide Ă  surmonter pareille douleur en nous donnant l’assurance qu’il y aura une rĂ©surrection. — Jean 5:28, 29 ; 11:25.
      Job, pĂšre de nombreux enfants, Ă©tait trĂšs conscient de la briĂšvetĂ© de la vie, qu’il a comparĂ©e Ă  une fleur qui se flĂ©trit rapidement (Job 1:2 ; 14:1, 2). Job dĂ©sirait la mort pour se soustraire Ă  ses souffrances, considĂ©rant la tombe comme une cachette d’oĂč il pourrait revenir. “ Si un homme robuste meurt, peut-il revivre ? ” a-t-il demandĂ©. Et d’exprimer sa confiance : “ Tous les jours de ma corvĂ©e, j’attendrai, jusqu’à ce que vienne ma relĂšve. Tu [JĂ©hovah] appelleras, et moi je te rĂ©pondrai. Tu languiras aprĂšs l’Ɠuvre de tes mains. ” — Job 14:13-15.
      Comment Job a-t-il illustrĂ© sa conviction que Dieu le rappellerait de la tombe ? Au moyen d’un arbre, dont la description correspond apparemment Ă  celle de l’olivier. “ Il existe un espoir mĂȘme pour un arbre. Si on le coupe, il bourgeonnera encore. ” (Job 14:7). Pour peu qu’il ne soit pas dĂ©racinĂ©, l’olivier peut effectivement ĂȘtre coupĂ© sans que cela le fasse mourir. Si ses racines demeurent intactes, il repoussera avec une vigueur renouvelĂ©e.
      MĂȘme si une sĂ©cheresse prolongĂ©e dessĂšche profondĂ©ment un vieil olivier, la souche ratatinĂ©e peut repartir. “ Si sa racine vieillit dans la terre et si sa souche meurt dans la poussiĂšre, Ă  l’odeur de l’eau, il bourgeonnera, oui il produira une branche comme une plante nouvelle. ” (Job 14:8, 9). Job vivait dans une rĂ©gion aride et poussiĂ©reuse oĂč il avait probablement dĂ» observer beaucoup de vieux oliviers complĂštement dessĂ©chĂ©s qui semblaient morts. Cependant, dĂšs qu’arrivaient les pluies, ils revenaient Ă  la vie, et un nouveau tronc Ă©mergeait de leurs racines “ comme une plante nouvelle ”. Cette rĂ©sistance hors du commun a conduit un horticulteur tunisien Ă  dĂ©clarer : “ Il n’est pas exagĂ©rĂ© de dire que les oliviers sont immortels. ”
      Tout comme un cultivateur espĂšre voir renaĂźtre ses oliviers dessĂ©chĂ©s, JĂ©hovah languit de ressusciter ses serviteurs. Il attend avec patience l’époque oĂč des fidĂšles comme Abraham et Sara, Isaac et RĂ©becca, et de nombreux autres seront ramenĂ©s Ă  la vie (Matthieu 22:31, 32). Comme il sera merveilleux d’accueillir les ressuscitĂ©s et de les voir mener de nouveau une vie productive !
      L’olivier symbolique
      La misĂ©ricorde de Dieu est manifeste dans son impartialitĂ© ainsi que dans la disposition qu’est la rĂ©surrection. L’apĂŽtre Paul s’est servi de l’olivier pour illustrer comment la misĂ©ricorde de JĂ©hovah s’étend aux humains indiffĂ©remment de leur race ou de leur origine. Pendant des siĂšcles, les Juifs se sont enorgueillis d’ĂȘtre le peuple choisi de Dieu, “ la descendance d’Abraham ”. — Jean 8:33 ; Luc 3:8.
      Il n’était pas nĂ©cessaire d’ĂȘtre nĂ© au sein de la nation juive pour obtenir la faveur divine. Les premiers disciples de JĂ©sus, cependant, Ă©taient tous Juifs et ils ont eu le privilĂšge de figurer parmi les premiers humains choisis par Dieu pour constituer la semence promise d’Abraham (GenĂšse 22:18 ; Galates 3:29). Paul les a comparĂ©s aux branches d’un olivier.
      La majoritĂ© des Juifs de naissance ont rejetĂ© JĂ©sus, se privant ainsi de la possibilitĂ© de faire partie du “ petit troupeau ”, ou “ IsraĂ«l de Dieu ”. (Luc 12:32 ; Galates 6:16.) Ils sont devenus comme des branches d’olivier qui auraient Ă©tĂ© coupĂ©es. Qui allait prendre leur place ? En 36 de notre Ăšre, des Gentils ont Ă©tĂ© choisis pour faire partie de la semence d’Abraham, comme si JĂ©hovah avait greffĂ© des branches d’olivier sauvage sur un olivier domestique. La semence promise d’Abraham inclurait donc des gens des nations qui pouvaient dĂ©sormais devenir ‘ participants de la racine de graisse de l’olivier ’. — Romains 11:17.
      Pour un cultivateur, greffer une branche d’olivier sauvage sur un olivier domestique serait impensable et “ contre nature ”. (Romains 11:24.) On lit dans La terre et le Livre (angl.) : “ Greffe le bon sur le sauvage, ont coutume de dire les Arabes, et il dominera le sauvage, mais tu ne pourras pas revenir en arriĂšre. ” Les chrĂ©tiens d’origine juive ont Ă©tĂ© surpris lorsque JĂ©hovah, “ pour la premiĂšre fois, s’est occupĂ© des nations pour tirer d’entre elles un peuple pour son nom ”. (Actes 10:44-48 ; 15:14.) C’était la preuve Ă©vidente, toutefois, que la rĂ©alisation du dessein de Dieu ne dĂ©pendait pas d’une nation particuliĂšre. En effet, “ en toute nation l’homme qui le craint et pratique la justice est agrĂ©Ă© de lui ”. — Actes 10:35.
      Paul a soulignĂ© que puisque les “ branches ” juives infidĂšles de l’olivier avaient Ă©tĂ© coupĂ©es la mĂȘme chose pourrait arriver Ă  toute personne qui, par orgueil ou dĂ©sobĂ©issance, perdrait la faveur de JĂ©hovah (Romains 11:19, 20). Cela montre sans l’ombre d’un doute que la faveur immĂ©ritĂ©e de Dieu ne devrait jamais ĂȘtre considĂ©rĂ©e comme dĂ©finitivement acquise. — 2 Corinthiens 6:1.
      Enduire d’huile
      Les Écritures mentionnent l’utilisation de l’huile d’olive non seulement au sens littĂ©ral, mais Ă©galement au sens figurĂ©. Dans les temps anciens, les blessures et les contusions Ă©taient “ adoucies avec de l’huile ” pour accĂ©lĂ©rer la cicatrisation (IsaĂŻe 1:6). D’aprĂšs un exemple de JĂ©sus, le bon Samaritain a versĂ© de l’huile et du vin sur les blessures de l’homme qu’il avait trouvĂ© sur la route de JĂ©richo. — Luc 10:34.
      L’application d’huile sur la tĂȘte est rafraĂźchissante et relaxante (Psaume 141:5). Lorsqu’ils ont Ă  traiter un cas de faiblesse spirituelle, les anciens peuvent ‘ enduire d’huile un membre de la congrĂ©gation, au nom de JĂ©hovah ’. (Jacques 5:14.) Leurs conseils bibliques pleins d’amour et leurs priĂšres sincĂšres en faveur de leur compagnon sont comparables Ă  de l’huile versĂ©e sur des plaies. DĂ©tail rĂ©vĂ©lateur, en hĂ©breu, “ huile d’olive pure ” est une expression imagĂ©e qui sert Ă  dĂ©signer un homme bon.
      “ Un olivier luxuriant dans la maison de Dieu ”
      Compte tenu de ce qui prĂ©cĂšde, il n’est pas surprenant que les serviteurs de Dieu puissent ĂȘtre comparĂ©s Ă  des oliviers. David dĂ©sirait ressembler Ă  “ un olivier luxuriant dans la maison de Dieu ”. (Psaume 52:8.) Tout comme les familles israĂ©lites avaient souvent des oliviers autour de leur maison, David souhaitait ĂȘtre proche de JĂ©hovah pour produire du fruit Ă  sa louange. — Psaume 52:9.
      Tant qu’il est restĂ© fidĂšle Ă  JĂ©hovah, le royaume de Juda Ă©tait comme un “ olivier luxuriant, beau par le fruit et par la forme ”. (JĂ©rĂ©mie 11:15, 16.) Mais ses habitants ont perdu leur position privilĂ©giĂ©e lorsqu’ils ‘ ont refusĂ© d’obĂ©ir aux paroles de JĂ©hovah et ont marchĂ© Ă  la suite d’autres dieux ’. — JĂ©rĂ©mie 11:10.
      Pour devenir comme des oliviers luxuriants dans la maison de Dieu, nous devons obĂ©ir Ă  JĂ©hovah et accepter de bon grĂ© la discipline par laquelle il nous “ taille ”, afin que nous puissions porter davantage de fruit en Ɠuvres chrĂ©tiennes (HĂ©breux 12:5, 6). En outre, tout comme un olivier doit avoir de longues racines pour survivre Ă  une pĂ©riode de sĂ©cheresse, nous devons fortifier nos racines spirituelles pour endurer les Ă©preuves et la persĂ©cution. — Matthieu 13:21 ; Colossiens 2:6, 7.
      L’olivier symbolise bien le chrĂ©tien fidĂšle, inconnu du monde mais connu de Dieu. S’il vient Ă  mourir dans ce systĂšme, il reviendra Ă  la vie dans le monde nouveau Ă  venir. — 2 Corinthiens 6:9 ; 2 Pierre 3:13.
      L’olivier, presque indestructible, qui continue de donner du fruit annĂ©e aprĂšs annĂ©e nous rappelle la promesse de Dieu : “ Les jours de mon peuple seront comme les jours d’un arbre ; et ceux que j’ai choisis profiteront pleinement de l’Ɠuvre de leurs mains. ” (IsaĂŻe 65:22). Cette promesse prophĂ©tique s’accomplira dans le monde nouveau de Dieu. — 2 Pierre 3:13.
