A Jehovah's Witness church elder is accused of failing to notify police about a known instance of sexual abuse against a minor in his congregation.

Michael M. Penkava, 71, of Crystal Lake, was charged Nov. 18 with violating reporting provisions. The offense is a misdemeanor typically punishable by less than one year in jail.

Maybe it should be at least five years in jail if proven true. I wonder how long the child has been suffering.

I don't see @TrueTomHarley commenting on this one. I presume this Elder was breaking the 'Superior Authorities' Law as well as breaking God's 'laws' and Christ's instructions.

Why did the parents not report it?  Are they dead?  Usually the parents (direct family members to the girl) are asked to report it - not an uncle.
