Many who do not wish to believe that a God-centered world view is the foundation of America irritatingly ask, "Where does the Constitution mention God?" They suppose that because the founding fathers did not insert "God" into the Constitution itself that we should have a "Godless" society as far as the public marketplace is concerned. Let us see.

First, the constitutional framers built their structure upon the foundation of Natural Law — a God-centered world view. On this the founders were in agreement. But "Natural Law" to the entire founding generation was defined as the "laws of the Creator." In a 1794 letter to the Massachusetts Legislature, Samuel Adams wrote, "In the supposed state of nature, all men are equally bound by the laws of nature, or to speak more properly, the laws of the Creator." This is precisely why "Congress shall make no law …" initiates the First Amendment. Freedom of speech, of press, of religion had been given by God and no government can legitimately remove it. Second, it is interesting that the founders relied most heavily upon the Bible for their political justification for the Constitution. William Blackstone, Baron von Montesquieu and John Locke top the list of most-often cited theorists — all of whom believed that God's laws undergird civil law. But the founders quoted another volume much more prolifically than any other. Biblical quotations comprise 34 percent of all the source material offered by the founders! Third, Supreme Court rulings for the entire first century of American existence boldly declared that "Christianity was a part of the common law of the land." In fact, the Constitution is only officially considered to be one of the fundamental laws of the United States. The Declaration of Independence is another and is so stated in the U.S. Code. As Samuel Adams put it: "Before the formation of the Constitution … this Declaration of Independence was received and ratified by all the states in the Union and has never been disannulled." The Declaration, which grounds our liberties upon God, was always considered to be interrelated to the Constitution in the same sense as articles of incorporation are related to the bylaws of a company. The Articles bring the entity into existence and the bylaws manage how that entity is to be run. Thus, the founders needed not place their sense of values in the Constitution since this had already been done in the Declaration. Fourth, the Constitution does, after all, mention God. Article VII reads, "done in Convention … the Seventeenth Day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty seven and of the Independence of the United States of America."

This week’s election wasn't a total loss for women – America’s first Somali-American Muslim woman legislator was elected.

Former refugee Ilhan Omar said "it's the beginning of something new" when she accepted the position in Minnesota Nov. 8, proudly wearing a hijab, the Star Tribune reports.

Omar describes herself as a feminist, part-time social justice crusader and full-time political junkie. She stands for paid parental leave, ordinances that respect Muslims, securing urban educator funding and banning environmentally-harmful containers and pesticides.

For women and minorities, she stands for so much more.

Haji Yusuf, a director of a local group promoting cultural understanding, said the Minneapolis mom and politician is a local role model.

"We hear so much about Muslim women being treated differently," Yusuf said when Omar won the primary. "But look at Ilhan and her dream, and where she came from — from a refugee camp to the state of Minnesota. ... Coming to be where she is today just represents so much for Muslim young women and men as well."

Now, she's quickly becoming a strong voice for Muslim women well beyond her state.

When the defeated Democratic nominee took the stage, some onlookers noticed the choice of color for her outfit — purple.

    Quote

Clinton wore a regal charcoal suit with purple lapels and a matching purple shirt, while husband Bill Clinton matched her with a purple tie.

The color purple has several various meanings, especially in the Catholic Church. But it could also mean bipartisanship, as that is the reason purple is used to denote swing states.

“The colors violet or purple in Advent help us to remember that we are preparing for the coming of Christ. Lent, the season of penance, repentance, and renewal, also uses the colors violet or purple,” noted the Archdiocese of Boston website. The Christian Resource Institute noted, “Purple can symbolize pain, suffering, and therefore mourning and penitence. It is the liturgical color for the Season of Lent.”

    Quote

In the Methodist tradition, of which Hillary Clinton comes, purple represents both royalty and penitence. That is why she is wearing it. As Boston Globe writer Matt Viser pointed out, the more likely meaning, since Clinton is a Methodist, was to symbolize royalty and contrition.

    Quote

CNN journalist and commentator Carl Bernstein called the image of both Clintons wearing matching purple was ““a tableaux of the Clintons and the best of what they stand for.”

Clinton has frequently chosen symbolic colors during her presidential campaign. When she accepted the Democratic nomination, the former first lady wore suffragette white in order to honor the history of America’s women’s rights movement.

During Donald Trump’s acceptance speech early Wednesday morning, the businessman-turned-outsider-politician called for unity among Americans. Clinton echoed that message just a few hours later.

“We have seen that our nation is more deeply divided than we thought, but I still believe in America and I always will,” she said. “If you do, then we must accept this result and then look to the future. Donald Trump is going to be our president. We owe him an open mind and the chance to lead.”

Had a long week? Well, you've come to the right place because we're about to show you something that will make your day.

Say hello to Piper, Pixar's latest short film. It tells the tale of a ridiculously cute sandpiper bird and her quest to go out into the world on her own. It's six minutes long, but we promise it's the best six minutes you'll experience today.

Everything from the bird's cute little chirp to her fluffy feathers makes Piper possibly the most adorable—and visually stunning—Pixar short film to date. If the bird looks familiar, that's because Piper first aired in theaters before Finding Dory, so you may have seen it before. Even so, we're sure you want to see this precious little creature one more time.1478284873-piper-bird.jpghttp://www.countryliving.com/life/entertainment/a40429/pixar-new-short-piper/

Some of country music's most iconic venues are also the spookiest. Certainly there are country songs that can be described as "haunting," but country music isn't typically associated with paranormal activity. So you may be surprised to learn that some of country music's biggest legends are believed to still haunt the genre's most well-known venues—and they're not the only ones doing the spooking. These boot-scootin' hotspots are also popular hangouts for the ghosts of former employees, murder victims, and more. According to Matthew Swayne's Ghosts of Country Music, these are some of the spookiest places in the country music world.

While shopping at a Walmart last weekend with his wife, Lupita Cruz, Phoenix resident Jose Avalos de Leon, who at the time was riding a Walmart scooter as per a toe injury, suddenly began to feel an itchy sensation creeping over his back.

As the itch only worsened, de Leon decided to stop by the restroom and stand back up so as to inspect the chair. It was then that he and his wife made a sickening discovery.

“The chair was full of bed bugs and his whole back was bit,” his wife wrote on Facebook in a post that has since gone viral.

The couple then tried calling over a manager, but the manager denied seeing anything, despite the evidence being quite clear.

Lupita even tried to take photos to prove the manager wrong, but even that failed.

“The lady manager that was called to come to us (Shannon) took it as if she had seen this already and didnt (sic) care and just told my husband to do an incident report,” her post continued. “After the report was done he asked for a copy and she said she couldnt do that for him yet on the paper it said he could ask for one. She also didnt sign it.” This has been the worse customer service i have ever had,” her post concluded. “Please be aware before u sit on anything!  SEE LINK FOR MORE

  10. (RNN) - Across the country, millions of people will be heading to polling places Tuesday to vote.

    But why Tuesday?

For the answer, we have to look back to 1845. That's when a law was passed by Congress naming the Tuesday after the first Monday in November as Election Day for national elections.

There's a website called WhyTuesday.org dedicated entirely to explaining "why Tuesday" and advocating for "not Tuesday." But everyone from NPR to The History Channel to John Oliver have all discussed this democratic curiosity.

The reason has everything to do with the law being passed in 1845.

    Quote

The law came into being because the previous practice was to allow states to set their own date as long as it fell within a certain timeframe. But news travels, and people who hear results from a different area may be influenced by those results, so Congress unified the voting process.

Tuesday became the standard due to the agrarian nature of 19th Century America. It could take a long time to travel to the polling location because of the large rural population. Also, there were no cars.

Religion also played a role. Since most people were devoted to their Sunday worship services, the weekend wasn't an option.

Wednesdays wouldn't work because that was the day farmers sold their goods at market.

But Tuesday was perfect because they could attend church Sunday, travel to their county's courthouse to vote Monday, vote on Tuesday and be at the market by Wednesday.

And, while we're at it, why November?

Because it's after the harvest, so the farmers wouldn't miss time in their fields.

And it had to be guaranteed Election Day didn't fall on Nov. 1 because that is All Saints' Day. Again, religious reasons.

So, they chose the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November.

Two goats wander across the roof of Prague's famous Lucerna Palace - the first beneficiaries of a new push to open up public spaces high above the packed streets of a crowded city.

The animals were guests of honor at the opening of a terrace on the city-centre landmark, whose lower floors hold the Czech Republic's oldest cinema, a theater, a music venue, restaurants and an ornate shopping arcade.

"I brought the goats ... to have an atmosphere of the farm here, to communicate the idea that roofs should get green," said the project's manager, activist Ondrej Kobza.

"Our goal is to have a community garden here, so that people could raise tomatoes, for example," added Kobza, who has rented a 1,000-square meter space on top of the building completed in 1921 by the grandfather of late President Vaclav Havel.

Risking everything to make it to Europe, thousands of migrants tackle this perilous journey from Libya to Italy each week. Onboard the Responder, we watch the crew whose mission is to save lives at sea. Day and night, the Migrant Offshore Aid Station rescued rubber boat-loads of men, women and children, brought them onto the main deck where they were body-searched and sat in rows one after the other.

Dusk, 347 migrants in total, given a medical check, food and water, helped by members of the Red Cross. Golden foil blankets providing a little warmth as the ship heads north - towards mainland Italy. Most coming from sub-Saharan Africa; fleeing poverty and violence; traveling through the desert to Libya and paying people smugglers to help them cross the Mediterranean.

Many migrants were floating at sea for up to 16 hours, some even losing loved ones, drowned in the waves just hours earlier. Exhausted and helpless, they don't care where they are going. They say anywhere is better than what they have left behind.

After two days at sea, the Responder arrives at dry land, docking in the port of Brindisi, southern Italy. The migrants disembark, handed over to the Italian authorities and registered in reception centers, many with just the clothes on their back.

The EU is determined to get tough on illegal migrants making this journey. Anyone whose life is not immediately in danger is to be sent back. These migrants have made it to Europe, but for many, their journey is not over yet.
