A former public elementary school teacher who is a Jehovah’s Witness has filed a lawsuit against the suburban Detroit school district where she used to work because, she claims, school officials ordered her to organize a classroom Valentine’s Day party and then sacked her because she refused.
People who belong to the Jehovah’s Witnesses, a millenarian Christian sect, do not celebrate Valentine’s Day. Thus, the teacher, Yvonne Lemmons, is suing for religious discrimination reports Michigan Live.
The defendant in the lawsuit is the Southfield Public School District in Southfield, Mich.
Lemmons, 56, says in her lawsuit that she had been a fourth-grade teacher at MacArthur University Academy, a public magnet school, for 10 years and had faced no issues concerning her religious beliefs prior to the Valentine’s Day party kerfuffle.
“She’s really a good woman devoted to teaching students,” Kathy Bogas, an attorney representing Lemmons, told Michigan Live. “Her abilities were never questioned until she challenged this directive.”
According to the lawsuit, on Feb. 12, 2014 — a Wednesday — the principal at MacArthur University Academy instructed Lemmons to throw an in-class Valentine’s Day party.
Lemmons refused, citing her status as a Jehovah’s Witness.
In the past, Bogas noted, parents of the students in Lemmons’s classes organized Valentine’s Day parties.
It’s not clear what was different about 2014. The lawsuit doesn’t say, and the school district would not comment on the lawsuit.
In any case, Lemmons did not show up for work on the day of the party — presumably Friday, Feb. 14, 2014.
Then, in June 2014, she was sacked.
Lemmons believes her dismissal is directly related to her refusal to organize be any part of the Valentine’s Day party.
“Defendant rejected all the Plaintiff’s suggestions that would have permitted students to have a holiday celebration without Plaintiff violating her religious beliefs,” the teacher’s court pleading states.
Lemmons and her attorneys argue that the school district’s refusal to accommodate her genuine religious belief and her subsequent job loss amount to illegal religious discrimination.
The lawsuit lists no specific dollar amount.
Lemmons has found work at an unnamed charter school since she was laid off.
Jehovah’s Witnesses object to Valentine’s Day because they seek a restoration of their notion of first-century Christianity. Valentine’s Day involves Cupid — the Greek god of erotic love — and one or more possibly martyred, third-century Roman saints named Valentinus.
Other holidays that Jehovah’s Witnesses spurn include Halloween. There’s no love for the Easter Bunny, either, because said bunny is, of course, a rabbit, and thus “a pagan symbol and has always been an emblem of fertility,” according to the official Jehovah’s Witnesses website
It’s not clear how Lemmons handled Halloween parties in her classroom, if they occurred.

      You will note that some of the prophets drew attention to the luxurious lifestyle of people who were neglecting the worship of JEHOVAH. The prophets admonished GOD'S people to ‘set their heart upon their ways’ and to transform their lives. (Haggai 1:2-5; 2:15, 18; Amos 3:14, 15; 5:4-6)
      Yes, the prophets were showing the people how to live. Those who accepted that exhortation showed that JEHOVAH is their Sovereign, thereby proving Satan a liar. JEHOVAH will prove loyal to such ones when HE annihilates HIS enemies.—2 Samuel 22:26.
      This description may be figurative, but we can conclude from it that GOD'S acts will bring disastrous effects on the earth and its inhabitants. Not on all humans, though. Being stuck out at sea among the icebergs and sea ice can make you pretty restless and uneasy. Why did Jesus hesitate to heal this woman's daughter?
On one occasion, Jesus and his apostles were in the vicinity of Tyre and Sidon. While there, they met a Greek woman who begged Jesus to heal her daughter. At first, Jesus ignored the woman. But when she kept on insisting.
Why did Jesus at first refuse to help this woman? Was Jesus testing her to see how she would react, giving her an opportunity to display her faith? His tone of voice, although not revealed in the written text, did not discourage her. His use of the term “little dogs” softened the comparison. 
So perhaps Jesus was acting like a parent who intends to grant a child’s request but withholds any outward sign of that intent in order to test out the child’s seriousness. 
Whatever the case, once the woman expressed her faith, Jesus willingly granted her request. ( Mark 7:28-30)

RED SEA: Archaeologists Discover Remains Of Egyptian Army From The Biblical Exodus
The discovery of the remains of a large Egyptian army at the bottom of the Gulf of Suez, 1.5 km offshore from the modern city of Ras Gharib, has been announced this morning by Egypt’s Antiquities Ministry. The team of underwater archaeologists was in search of ancient shipwrecks and artifacts from the Stone and Bronze Age trade in the Red Sea when they came across a huge pile of human bones dated back to the 14th century BC.

Over 400 different skeletons have been discovered by the team of scientists lead by Professor Abdel Muhammad Gader from the Faculty of Archaeology at Cairo University. The discovery also includes hundreds of weapons and pieces of armor, the remains of two war chariots, dispersed over an area of nearly 200 square meters. According to the archaeologists, more than 5,000 other bodies could be scattered over a wider area, which implies that itÂ’s possibly a large army that had disappeared in this area.

The image shows a superb blade from an Egyptian khopesh, which was a very important weapon at the time. As it was discovered near the relics of an ornately decorated war chariot, the team believes that it possibly belonged to a prince or nobleman.
The numerous clues found at the site have led Professor Gader and his team to believe that the bodies are related to the well-known Exodus. Namely, the ancient soldiers appear to have died on land, because the researchers didnÂ’t find any traces of boats or ships in the area. Plus, the position of the bodies, along with the fact that they were stuck in clay and rock, indicates that the warriors had possibly died in a mudslide or a tidal wave.
Also, the large number of bodies points toward a big-sized army. All of these facts support the biblical version of the Red Sea Crossing when the army of the Egyptian Pharaoh was destroyed by the returning waters that Moses had parted.
The recent discovery confirms that during the reign of King Akhenaten, there truly was an Egyptian army of large size destroyed by the waters of the Red Sea.

REFUGEES,  WITNESSES  IN  FINLAND
Russian Jehovah's Witnesses who have come to Finland in search of asylum. Also a Finnish presidential candidate mentioned that the highest percentage of asylum seekers in a particular Finnish refugee center at this time are the Russian Jehovah's Witnesses. The immigration office states that 1,000 Russian Witnesses have sought asylum last year and even earlier.
Apparently, there was systematic harassment of Witnesses in Russia and a law was passed that the Witnesses can lose custody of their children, if it is proved that the children are indoctrinated by their parents.

RUSSIAN WITNESSES FLEE FROM RUSSIA
The plight of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia is considered an asylum application. Representative of the Finnish Movement: "Some have been expelled from work and schools, their homes have been ruined and the meetings are blocked."
The Finnish Immigration Service has also taken note of the Russian decision to ban the business. Most Jehovah's Witnesses are still waiting for their asylum decision.
The plight of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia is reflected in Finland as a request for asylum.
According to the Finnish Immigration Service, last year, "several dozen" members of the movement arrived in Finland as asylum seekers, while in previous years the cases were mostly isolated.
The decision of the Russian Supreme Court last April to ban the movement as "extremist" is underlying. The result was the closure of the national headquarters of Jehovah's Witnesses in St. Petersburg, the official abolition of hundreds of local divisions and the confiscation of business ownership.
The consequences of the decision of Veikko Leinonen, the spokesperson of the witnesses of the Finnish Jehovah's Witness, have also been suffered by the members of the movement. "Some have been expelled from work and schools, their houses are smashed and spiritual activities and meetings are blocked," says Leinonen.
"It started last summer when the Jehovah's Witnesses started arriving to some extent in Finland, a big crowd here will hardly come, but I think there are still dozens."
According to LEINONEN, a total of around a thousand Jehovah's Witnesses left Russia. However, most of them went to Finland: Ukraine, Poland and Germany.
"One thousand is the number we mentioned, when the Finnish Immigration Service asked us what the total amount would be." Leinonen says that the witnesses of Finland Jehovah strive to demonstrate Russia arrivals family of faith and sisters in the hotel trade, but nothing organized apukampanjaa not in his opinion, has started.

When this Hebrew name was transliterated in the Greek Septuagint (2,000 year old Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible) it was written as ?????? (iesous). The Greek alphabet had no "Y" sound, so it used the "I" sound. The Greek alphabet has no consonant "H," or equivalent, so this sound is dropped. The Greek alphabet also had no "Sh" sound, so it used the "S" sound. Then, Greek male names end with "s," so the "s" was added. And this is how ????? (yehoshu'a) became ?????? (iesous) in the Greek. It is common for names to shift and evolve when transferred from one culture to another. For instance, the German name Ludwig is Louis in France and the Spanish name Juan is John in English speaking countries. The Hebrew name ????? (yehoshu'a, Strong's #3091) is ???? (yeshu'a, Strong's #3442 [Latinized as Jeshua]) in the Aramaic language, such as we see in Ezra 2:2.
