(CNN)Actor Luke Perry has been hospitalized.

A representative for the actor told CNN on Thursday that "Mr. Perry is currently under observation at the hospital."

The spokesperson would not elaborate about what led to his hospitalization.

Perry rose to fame in the '90s for his role on Fox's hit series "Beverly Hills, 90210," from 1990 to 2000. He currently stars as Fred Andrews on CW's "Riverdale."

A number of Perry's former "90210" co-stars took to social media to extend their support and wishes for a quick recovery.

Ian Ziering wrote on Instagram, "No words can express what my heart feels hearing today's shocking news. Let us all say a prayer for his speedy recovery."

'90210' star Luke Perry hospitalized after reported stroke; co-stars react to news

Luke Perry, who currently stars on CW's "Riverdale" but may be best-known for his long-running role on "Beverly Hills, 90210," has been hospitalized after paramedics responded to his home following a 911 call about a stroke.

His representative, Arnold Robinson, confirmed that "Perry is under observation at the hospital" but would not confirm the reason for his hospitalization. He has since denied a TMZ story reporting the actor has been placed in a medically induced coma, telling the gossip site and The Hollywood Reporter that he's merely sedated.

Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said a call came in from the neighborhood of Sherman Oaks at 9:39 a.m. PST Wednesday and that an ambulance transported one person to a local hospital. Humphrey could not identify the patient by name.

TMZ and The Blast both published audio clips from the 911 call in which the patient’s blood pressure is given and the word “stroke” can be heard.

Perry, 52, was one of the early breakout stars from "90210" thanks to his role as Dylan McKay, a latter-day James Dean type.

In an attempt to escape typecasting after "90210" ended, Perry sought out roles as different as possible, including playing a preacher in the HBO prison drama "Oz" in episodes from 2001 and 2002.

    • Should Christians place greater trust in human-created philosophies or should a genuine Christian ground their desires from the scriptural perspective on the frailties of the mind and body? Psychology often falls short when it clashes with personal beliefs, regardless of the intentions behind it. James 1:14, Romans 12: 2 It also acts as a guide to clarify misconceptions, such as labeling "shunning" as an evil act rather than recognizing it as a corrective measure or a personal choice. This suggests a misunderstanding on the part of experts, more so than scholars, regarding psychological matters. The forum is structured around Christian ethics.
