Planting vegetables in a 5-gallon bucket is a great way for beginners to start growing their own vegetable garden.

To get the scoop on this popular, portable gardening method, we met up with Zack Snipes, a County Agent with the Horticulture Program at the Clemson Coastal Research and Education Center in Charleston, South Carolina. Check out the video to see his tips on how to grow a successful vegetable garden right out of a bucket.

Grisly animal sacrifices for Eid combined with heavy rains have made the streets of one city run red with blood.

Police in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka had allowed the traditional slaughter to take place in certain designated areas of the city.

However heavy downpours made many of the spots impossible to use.

The blood from the slaughtered liverstock, killed by some Muslims to mark Eid al-Adha, or the Feast of Sacrifice, mixed with the flood water - as can be seen in these dramatic pictures.

During the celebration, goats, sheep or cows are killed to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim's test of faith.

NEW YORK — Hillary Clinton unexpectedly left Sunday's 9/11 anniversary ceremony after feeling “overheated” and retreated to her daughter's nearby apartment. Her campaign said later the Democratic presidential nominee was “feeling much better.”

Clinton spokesman Nick Merrill said in a statement that the former secretary of state attended the morning ceremony for 90 minutes “to pay her respects and greet some of the families of the fallen.

“During the ceremony, she felt overheated so departed to go to her daughter's apartment, and is feeling much better,” the statement said.

The statement offered no additional details, including whether the 68-year-old Clinton required medical attention.

Donald Trump supporters have tried to make the case that she's physically unfit for the White House, citing a concussion she sustained in December 2012 after fainting. Her doctor attributed the episode to a stomach virus and dehydration.

She was among the many dignitaries at the annual event at ground zero in lower Manhattan, joining New York's Democratic senators, Chuck Schumer and Kirstin Gillibrand, as she stood during the ceremony.

Trump also attended the memorial service. Neither he nor Clinton spoke at the event, in keeping with the solemn nature of the annual remembrance of the deadliest terror attack on American soil.

Hyundai: How to turn a used car into an $80,000 luxury ride

    MOHENIC GARAGES

Seoul, South Korea (CNN)A 20-year-old beat up Hyundai SUV isn't anyone's idea of a dream car.

But used Hyundai Gallopers, priced between $2,000 to $3,000 at second-hand car markets, are making a comeback -- reborn as upwards $80,000 luxury vehicles at the hand of former furniture designer Henie Kim.
Kim -- now the CEO of Mohenic Garages, a car rebuilding company based in Paju -- has transformed the boxy classic into one of South Korea's most highly-desired cars.
"As a former designer, I wanted make everything perfect."

      Design process

The remade "Mohenic G", as they're known, take their design cues from the 1990s and come in a variety of custom colors from "mint racing green" to "midnight cerulean blue".
Demand for the "Mohenic G" has steadily risen, and the waitlist is long. Since 2013, only 43 cars have been rebuilt and 48 customers are on a waiting list.
Production is slow -- though since the company expanded, they're able to produce 30 cars a year, or about 2 cars a month. A team of two dozen workers transform each car in a meticulous process that includes prying the car cabin from its frame, sanding, removing corrosive substances, polishing and painting. • Burning Man is an annual gathering that takes place at Black Rock City—a temporary community erected in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada. The event is described as an experiment in community and art, influenced by 10 main principles, including "radical" inclusion, self-reliance and self-expression, as well as community cooperation, civic responsibility, gifting, decommodification, participation, immediacy and leaving no trace. First held in 1986 on Baker Beach in San Francisco as a small function organized by Larry Harvey and a group of friends, it has since been held annually, spanning from the last Sunday in August to the first Monday in September (the U.S. Labor Day); for example, Burning Man 2016 was held between August 28 and September 5, 2016.

At Burning Man the community explores various forms of artistic self-expression, created in celebration for the pleasure of all participants. Participation is a key precept for the community – selfless giving of one's unique talents for the enjoyment of all is encouraged and actively reinforced. Some of these generous out-pourings of creativity can include experimental and interactive sculpture, building, performance, and art cars among other mediums, often inspired by the yearly theme, chosen by organizers. The event takes its name from its culmination, the symbolic ritual burning of a large wooden effigy ("the Man") that traditionally occurs on the Saturday evening of the event.[2][3][4][5]

Burning Man is organized by the Burning Man Project, a non-profit organization that, in 2014, succeeded a for-profit limited liability company (Black Rock City, LLC) that was formed in 1997 to represent the event's organizers, and is now considered a subsidiary of the non-profit organization. In 2010, 51,515 people attended Burning Man.[6] Attendance in 2011 was capped at 50,000 participants and the event sold out on July 24;[7] the attendance rose to 70,000 in 2015.[1] Smaller regional events inspired by the principles of Burning Man have been held internationally; some of these events are also officially endorsed by the Burning Man Project as regional branches of the event.

CNN)They arrive in parts -- on the back of semi-trucks or hitched to trailers -- after being shuttled up America's Interstate 80 highway to Nevada's Black Rock Desert, the site of the annual Burning Man festival.

Here, on the region's salt flats, the individual pieces -- steel, wood, papier-mâché and a myriad of other materials -- are assembled into one of the festival's most striking pieces of art: Mutant Vehicles.
These often spectacular cars would fail any standard road test, but must pass the criteria set by Burning Man's Department of Mutant Vehicles (DMV) to be granted a festival license.
This means they must "be completely mutated -- showing little or none of the original base vehicle," according to the DMV, who strive to ensure a "balance" of mutated machinery.
The strict criteria means only 650 licenses were granted this year. Other motorized vehicles are largely banned, and most of the tens of thousands of attendees must travel by foot or bike.
Photographer Scott London has spent over a decade documenting the festival, chasing the vehicle's owners on a "janky old bike". His images have recently been published in a revised edition of Burning Man: Art on Fire, a book that documents the festival's art.
Here, he discusses the mutant rides with CNN Style.
CNN: How is documenting Burning Man different from your other photography projects?
London: Burning Man is a laboratory for creative expression -- whether it's showing a skill like stilt walking or fire dancing, an outfit, an art car or art installation...already that's fascinating; you see things you don't get to see elsewhere.
It's also an uncommonly beautiful natural landscape. The dry lakebed there, known as the playa, is made out of alkaline dust. It's almost white and reflects light. So it's a tabula rasa, or blank slate, from a photographer's standpoint. It's nothing like you've ever seen anywhere else.
CNN: One of the main subjects that you've photographed at Burning Man is the festival's thriving culture of art cars. Tell us about your fascination with these mobile art vehicles.
London: Necessity is the mother of invention, and that's how these vehicles came about. It goes back to the early 90s, when people needed to get around in something that wasn't quite a car.
So, if you brought a car and decorated it enough, it was then considered 'art', and you could drive it around the playa. In some ways it inspired today's maker-faire culture. Burning Man was encouraging people to make stuff early on. The cars show just how wild and fanciful these artists' imaginations are.

CNN: What sort of "mutant vehicles" have you seen?

London: There's a real spectrum -- ranging from fine art, to rolling nightclubs, to glorified golf carts.
Some vehicles are by bonafide artists who dedicate a lot of love and artistic flair, and create something outlandish -- like a submarine, magic carpet, or shark. This is what they do, these are their life works and their pieces are mobile art in the true sense.
One of my favorite works, "El Pulpo Mechanico", is a mechanical octopus by Duane Flatmo that is taken around the country and shown at art fairs and festivals. It's eye-popping. It's such a crowd favorite. As soon as it comes out, crowds flock to it. It shoots out flames from its tentacles. It's a real original.
CNN: How have the art cars evolved through the years?
London: For better or for worse, the cars as a whole are becoming bigger, more expensive, and more sophisticated.
We have seen some well-heeled theme camps (groups of Burning Man participants) with money to burn, commission things that are pretty amazing. Last year, there was this giant rubber duck built on top of a big bus with a dance floor and laser displays.
CNN: How do you get around to take photos and are you able to photograph all the mutant vehicles each year?
London: Sometimes I get rides on art cars. But if you ride on someone else's art car, you're stuck with where they want to take you, and often that's at 5 miles per hour -- the Burning Man speed limit -- which is very slow. I can ride faster on my bike. I have a janky old bike.
I'll be on my bike, and chase after them. I'll talk to the artists while they're driving and exchange a few words. 'What is the name of this art car? What is this? How many years have you been here?'
As Burning Man becomes more popular, the distances become increasingly vast. Now it's a 5-mile stretch. I only see a fraction of the hundreds of cars in passing. It's impossible to see everything.

George W Bush's reaction tothe 9/11 attacks in America has been detailed in full for the first time by his press secretary, highlighting the former president's immediate determination to "get the b-------" responsible.

Ari Fleischer's six handwritten pages of notes from on board the president's plane, Air Force One, which have been released ahead of Sunday's 15th anniversary of the attacks, reveal Mr Bush's shock and anger on the day.

"We're at war," Mr Bush told Dick Cheney, the vice president, by telephone from the plane.

Hanging up and turning to his aides, he added: "That's what we're paid for boys. We're going to take care of this, when we find out who did this they are not going to like me as president."

The notes, some of which Mr Fleischer has referenced before but were released in full to Reuters on Friday, reveal that the former president was quick to establish the need to retaliate after the atrocities.

"I can't wait to find out who did it," he adds. "It's going to take a while and we're not going to have a little slap on the wrist crap."

The attacks, involving four hijacked passenger planes, killed 2,996 people and injured more than 6,000 others in New York City, Virginia and Pennsylvania.

There was concern from the US Secret Service that Mr Bush's plane was a target, but the former president was insistent that he had to return to Washington from Florida.

"I want to get home as soon as possible," he said. "I don't want whoever this is holding me outside Washington."

In another conversation with Mr Cheney, Mr Bush stated that it was important that the American people saw that government was continuing to function.

"We're going to get the b-------," he told his vice president. He later declares: “It’s the new war. It’s the faceless coward that [attacks].”

Mr Fleischer's notes include a reference to a communication heard on the plane from the ground that "Angel is next". Air Force One's code name at the time was "angel" and there was worry on board that the plane was a target.

Mr Fleischer said an armed guard was stationed outside the door leading to the Air Force One cockpit, in case someone on board was a threat.

Mr Bush's concern for his wife Laura and their two daughters Barbara and Jenna is also highlighted in the notes.

He was quick to make sure they were safe and moved to a secure location. He also asked about his beloved Scottish terrier.

          "Barney?" Mr Bush said.

"He's nipping at the heels of Osama bin Laden now," replied Andy Card, his chief of staff.

Later on, during the afternoon of Sept 11, Mr Bush spoke to the First Lady.

“I’m coming home. See you at the White House. Love you … go on home,” he said according to the notes.

“If I’m in the WH and there’s a plane coming my way, all I can say is I hope I read my bible that day.”

Wind in the Willows was written nearby and it is painful to witness such high handed behaviour.Philip Nugus,

The trees and meadows of Winter Hill on the banks of the River Thames in Cookham Dean have a special place in the history of children’s literature.

It was this bucolic setting, after all, that was the inspiration for Wild Wood – home of Mole, Rat and Badger in Kenneth Grahame’s much loved 1908 novel The Wind in the Willows.

But a bitter dispute has now broken out over the future appearance of Winter Hill, following revelations that its owners, the National Trust, are to chop down many of the trees lining its slopes.

The Trust has told residents in the area that it intends to restore much of the wood, near Maidenhead, to what it says was the hill’s original grassland.

It says the site, which it took over in 1934, had been a chalk grassland slope with views across the Thames Valley that over the years became scrubby woodland

Residents whose homes dot the slopes of Winter Hill have condemned the plans however, describing them as destructive and at odds with the National Trust’s duty to preserve the landscape.

Philip Nugus, 68, a retired documentary maker who lives on Winter Hill, said: “The National Trust has just announced without any proper consultation with adjacent residents that they are going to cut down half the wood and poison the rest.”

He added: “This is arrogant behaviour and is diametrically opposed to their mandate as this is a Conservation Area within an Area of Special Landscape importance. The Wind in the Willows was written nearby and it is painful to witness such high-handed behaviour.”

Many residents fear the removal of the trees will live their homes exposed to more noise and intrusion from visitors and passing traffic.

Grahame wrote The Wind in the Willows using the bedtime stories he had told his son Alastair as a basis for the adventures of Rat, Mole, Mr Badger and Mr Toad in and around "Wild Wood" and the river bank.

He drew inspiration from the area around the home at Cookham Dean where he had been raised by his grandmother.

The row over Winter Hill comes at a delicate moment for the National Trust. Earlier this week the charity was accused of "autocratic and out-of-touch behaviour" by Conservative former cabinet minister Lord Patten during a debate in the House of Lords.

The Trust has recently come under fire over its decision to buy more than 300 acres of farmland in the Lake District without purchasing the accompanying farmhouse.

Critics say this threatens the viability of the flock of rare Herdwicke sheep kept there.

At the same time it has been accused of planning to turn parts of the Lake District into a “second-rate Alaska”, after a leaked memo revealed a proposal to alter the path of the River Derwent to relieve the risk of flooding.

The broadcaster Lord Bragg, who has spoken out over the Trust’s purchase of the land at Thorneythwaite Farm in Borrowdale, has now joined criticism of its plans for Winter Hill.

He told The Telegraph: “This is yet another example of the National Trust’s ignorance and arrogance. Their behaviour around the place is truly shocking.”

The National Trust argues that its plans to fell trees on Winter Hill will restore views across the Thames Valley, bring back some of the chalk grassland that has been lost and “improve the experience for visitors and local residents”.

The Trust said its plan was only to remove many of the smaller trees on the upper half of Winter Hill, while retaining the tree cover around the homes built along the bottom of the hill since 1934.

          wild_wood2-large_trans++ZgEkZX3M936N5BQK

          Quote

In its letter to residents the Trust pointed out that tree cover in the UK has increased from around four per cent in 1900 to 13 per cent today while at the same time the country has lost 98 per cent of its unfertilised grassland.

It said: “Whilst woodland has great habitat value, some of our most threatened species are those that rely on other habitats. Many of these habitats have been lost or become fragmented, so sustainable populations cannot be maintained.

“By removing tree cover we will, after several years, get a beautiful band of grassland colonised by orchids, butterflies and other invertebrates. This will blend into a scrubby woodland edge and then into denser woodland at the bottom of the slope.”

Rachel Forsyth, National Trust's lead ranger,  said: “Winter Hill had very few trees until the 1940s when grazing ceased and scrub began to encroach on the chalk grassland. We are keen to create a better environment for the people who use Winter Hill.

“Approximately 15-20 per cent of the current tree stock will be removed. This will enable us to re-establish the chalk grassland and restore a valuable link in the chain connecting up these nationally declining habitats.”

Brusthom Ziamani was turned in to an Islamist fanatic by followers of the hate preacher Anjem Choudary after he was kicked out by his Jehovah’s Witness family.

The teenager was targeted by extremists after attending a south London mosque while homeless and drawn in to their warped world.

He was given a bed in a Camberwell flat which became a hotbed of extremism and was radicalised with alarming speed.

Just months before his arrest for terrorist offences he was a sports-mad London teenager involved in boxing and the specialist hobby of parkour, where people jump around every day obstacles such as buildings, walls and roofs.

He was also involved in petty crime. But within weeks of converting to Islam he was ranting extremist messages and attending protests before ultimately plotting to behead a soldier.

Ziamani, 19, who was known as Bruce before converting to Islam, was brought up in south London and went to school in Peckham.

He lived with his nursery nurse mother and psychiatric nurse father, who originally came from the Congo and are Jehovah's Witnesses. He had a strict religious upbringing.

As a child he was taken to knock on people's doors to “prosthelytize and evangelise” in an attempt to convert them to his religion.

His faith meant he never had a birthday or celebrated Christmas and as a “young black guy” growing up in south London he grew away from his faith, he told the Old Bailey.

He became involved in boxing and parkour and a big fan of rap music.

But he also become involved in stealing people's credit cards and went to a "play house" to have sex with prostitutes.

It was his love of rap music that drew him to Islam, he claimed.

In the spring of 2014 he converted to Islam. He would hide his Islamic clothing from his father by tucking in his robe when he was on the house.

His parents discovered he had become a Muslim after finding photographs of people in Islamic clothing on his phone.

His father threw his bible at him and the pair had furious rows, according to one neighbour.

He was told he could either stay and abide by their rules or be a Muslim and leave the house.

When his then girlfriend, who cannot be named for legal reasons, rejected his attempts to convert her he threatened to “wipe her out”.

He started attending Camberwell mosque and would sleep there before a friend offered him a place to stay around the corner.

But the flat was a focal point for members of the banned group Al- -Muhajiroun and were all followers of its one-time leader and hate cleric Anjem Choudary.

Clinton's decision to mark the anniversary at the World Trade Center site has a precedent: in 2008, the last time an incumbent wasn't running for the White House, Barack Obama and John McCain set aside their political differences to make a joint appearance at the site in New York.

Trump and Clinton are the first New Yorkers to become their parties' nominees for president since nearly 3,000 people died in the Sept. 11 attacks. Both candidates have made their experiences that day part of their campaign narratives.

Clinton has frequently highlighted her efforts — including at her party's convention this summer — to aid those affected by the World Trade Center collapse. She made frequent trips to the attack site and her staff has highlighted her efforts to help secure medical benefits for first responders sickened at ground zero.

Trump, meanwhile, has said he donated construction equipment to the recovery effort and gave $100,000 to the memorial after touring it for the first time earlier this year. But he also received widespread criticism for claiming that "thousands and thousands" of Muslims in New Jersey celebrated when the towers toppled, a claim for which there is no proof.

The initial remarks were made during a star-studded fundraiser in downtown New York, which Barbra Streisand headlined.

On Friday night, Clinton said that Trump has "given voice" to "irredeemable" individuals who engage in "offensive, hateful, mean-spirited rhetoric." The other "basket," she said, is comprised of people who feel that the government and the economy has "let them down."

If 66% that were born witness are no longer ‘identifying’ as such, don’t see how they can be forcing people to stay like some comments are saying. Most of them make it sound like they are actually kicking people out, not making them stay. Live it or leave it, I can respect that. At least they stick to their code of conduct, instead of backtracking every time someone gets upset like most religions do. All you churches out there need to make up your minds! I still am not gonna believe in God, but at least you won’t look so stupid! Makes me think the commentors are actually just mad they got kicked out of a religion that accepted Prince!

          Dear Librarian,

Let us be vigilant lest we inadvertently post spoofs and inaccurate "news" like this one!

These moderators and other posters try to always post factual reports. That is not always possible as these stories appear on many news sites constantly. No individual can be aware at all times of everything that is posted, as to the truthfulness of the story. If one is in doubt about the news, why not check it out ourselves, and try to tactfully post a correction. We all want to know the truth  in all things, so we try to post what we believe in sincerity is true, and we also must be willing , and be thankful, if we are corrected, as by this we learn. Who knew News Thump is such a no-truth site? Probably not many.-_-

The tribe argues that the pipeline, which crosses four states to move oil from North Dakota to Illinois, threatens water supplies and has already disrupted sacred sites

Ground-breaking work on synthetic organ transplants made Paolo Macchiarini one of the most famous doctors in the world. But some of his academic research is now seen as misleading, and most of the patients who received his revolutionary treatment have died. What went wrong?

          Quote

n July 2011, the world was told about a sensational medical breakthrough that had taken place in Stockholm, Sweden. The Italian surgeon Paolo Macchiarini had performed the world's first synthetic organ transplant, replacing a patient's trachea, or windpipe, with a plastic tube.

The operation promised to reshape organ transplantation. No longer would patients have to wait for a donor organ, only to run the risk of biological rejection. Plastic tracheas - and possibly other organs - would be produced quickly, safely, and made-to-measure for each patient.

It was a story that befitted the reputation of Dr Macchiarini's workplace, the prestigious Karolinska Institute, whose professors decide each year who will receive the Nobel Prize in Medicine.

But five years on, Macchiarini's headline-making work has brought KI and its sister organisation, the Karolinska University Hospital, no glory. Of the nine patients that received the treatment, in Sweden and elsewhere, seven have died. The two still alive have had their synthetic tracheas removed and replaced with a windpipe from a donor.

Finally the doctor admits in an irritated tone, "We didn't do any animal study that involves large animals - of course not, we didn't have the time. The material was proven, the material was studied. We used fibres that were approved by the FDA [the US Food and Drug Administration]. And now all the studies are coming."

Lindquist called his documentary series The Experiments. The implication is that Macchiarini was treating humans as guinea pigs, instead of doing preliminary research on animals.

The Experiments will be broadcast in the UK as part of BBC4's Storyville strand in October 2016

          Honest.

NewsThump is a satirical and spoof news website, taking a daily swipe at current affairs from the UK and around the world. It is published and owned by Thump Publishing Limited.

We aim to be equal opportunity piss-takers and have no particular affiliation or political preference. It is our stated aim to mock absolutely everyone, eventually.

We are not afraid to skip a few steps like checking facts or corroborating sources, and we never let the truth ruin a funny story (it’s much easier just to make everything up). So, for clarification – If you read a story on here, then you are NOT supposed to believe it. It has been completely made up purely for entertainment purposes. It’s also worth noting that we regularly use rude words and stuff, so you need to be 18 to be reading this.  All images are courtesy of iStockphotos/Getty and are used for illustrative purposes only, and anyone depicted is a model.
