It is interesting, this "stuff", the truth. I think, truth can't make us free or miserable. The truth is "just" reality, nothing more. Our "understanding" about what truth "is" or what truth "is not", can make us feel in this or that way. When we come to some sort of "revelation" about our new position in some circumstances, that is what changes our feelings. I said feelings, as first "wall" of our self made image about own position in life and in the world, in a particular society or a group, family.
As in words above. Terms "free" and "miserable" are mainly, firstly connected with human feelings, not with mind, brain. Our mind often makes artificial sort of truth aka lie or deceived, false truth. Our awaking from that state generates, produces liberation from mental or spiritual slavery and as one of steps in that process can be sort of misery. It depends of what is about.
Also, it is about what issue is in question. Is it about some personal, intimate thing, some religious questions etc. Every of those specific items making different levels of "suffer".

Neither I or my wife have ever taken an annual "flu shot" (vaccine).

"So last year 37,000 Americans died from the common Flu," Trump tweeted Monday morning. "It averages between 27,000 and 70,000 per year. Nothing is shut down, life & the economy go on. At this moment there are 546 confirmed cases of CoronaVirus, with 22 deaths. Think about that!"
    ==================================
    So ..... think about that!
One thing to consider is which is the most dangerous ... in your PARTICULAR  case ...considering age, immune system, underlying health conditions, and other things applicable to you personally, is whether or not you want to take the risk of the Coronavirus being a threat to life, or long term health ... or a vaccine rushed to market.
I just got this email from an Elder in my congregation:
" Good evening everyone. Tomorrow evening our service group is assigned to do the light cleaning, which means we are responsible for disinfecting "all frequently touched surfaces in the Kingdom Hall including but not limited to door and fixture handles, microphones, seat arms, hard surface furniture, sinks, toilets, urinals, and drinking fountains" after the meeting. (The whole congregation is invited to do this before the meeting.) The more hands we have the more quickly we can get this done. Thanks! "
I am pretty much going to ignore the whole virus apprehension/scare thing, but probably wash my hands more often.  I already avoid people.
Do we stop eating at restaurants, or handling canned goods at the grocery store, that some checker has bagged?
I understand a Dilbert character, Ratbert, intended to achieve immortality by living in a coffee can away from all of this, but after a day of hiding in a coffee can, found immortality to be overrated.

All that aside, Losch was in my opinion a craven coward for NOT appearing as ordered ... and chickened out on a magnificent opportunity to defend Truth, whatever it was.
He was the PMQ (Person Most Qualified), as determined by the California court system, as he was the only Governing Body Member whose institutional memory went all the way back to the beginning (?) of the CSA cover-ups.
He chose to subvert the determination of what is true, to save  a great deal of money, and a great deal of real estate.
Righteousness comes when TRUTH comes first, and your survival comes second.
He did not, at his age, want to be a greeter at the door of Wal-Mart, and live at poverty level.

If I "lied", (but not through my teeth which sounds extremely sinister), I apologize for erring in my assumption.  But I’m not sure that I really have lied, unlike someone I know who lives a sinister lie about who he is.  Honestly, I have no clue why the charades continue.
You are the lawyer or somehow connected with law; so, you would know better than me.  But this is what I see:
A subpoena and a summons are similar because they both give notice about a court proceeding. Differences between a subpoena and a summons include:
who they are given to when they are given what they are used for What is a summons?
A summons is an official notice of a lawsuit. It is given to the person being sued. If you sue someone, they need to know about it. This way, they can come to court and fight the lawsuit. When you serve the defendant with a summons, you officially tell that you are suing them. You must follow the rules for giving the summons to the defendants to properly file your case. For helpful videos on filing court papers, see the Law Basics Video Series.
    What is a subpoena?
A subpoena is a court order. You can use a subpoena to require a person to come to court, go to a deposition, or give documents or evidence to you. You must serve the subpoena on the person. https://www.illinoislegalaid.org/legal-information/what-difference-between-summons-and-subpoena

From what I am understanding, he received a “notice of deposition/subpoena because he was assumed to be a “managing agent” for the WT, and which he denied...in a cowardly way.

    https://law.justia.com/cases/california/court-of-appeal/2016/d066388.html
After contentious discovery disputes, the court issued two discovery orders against Watchtower: (1) compelling the deposition of an individual (Gerrit Losch) whom the court found was a "managing agent" of Watchtower; and (2) ordering the production of documents in Watchtower's files pertaining to other perpetrators of child sexual abuse. When Watchtower failed to comply with these orders, the court granted Lopez's motion for monetary and terminating sanctions, struck Watchtower's answer, and entered Watchtower's default.

    My goodness, what a liar.
    G. Jackson:
“Mr. Stewart, what you need to understand with regard to our organization…is a faith-driven organization.  Now the governing body realizes that if we were to give some direction that is not in harmony with God’s word all of Jehovah’s Witnesses world wide who have the Bible, would notice that and they would see…as a wrong direction.  If direction is given based on the Bible, we would expect them to follow that…"
When “the Assyrian” attacks, the elders must be absolutely convinced that Jehovah will deliver us. (3) At that time, the life-saving direction that we receive from Jehovah’s organization may not appear practical from a human standpoint. All of us must be ready to obey any instructions we may receive, whether these appear sound from a strategic or human standpoint or not.   W 13/11/15 p 20

For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, will multiply teachers for themselves because they have an itch to hear what they want to hear.  2 Tim 4:3
The driving force/faith is toward the organization, that it will NEVER mislead its adherents.
If anyone teaches false doctrine and does not agree with the sound teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ and with the teaching that promotes godliness, 4 he is conceited and understands nothing, but has an unhealthy interest in disputes and arguments over words. From these come envy, quarreling, slander, evil suspicions, 5 and constant disagreement among people whose minds are depraved and deprived of the truth, who imagine that godliness is a way to material gain.  1 Tim 6:4,5
False doctrine?  Yes.  The organization has a very long list of it and none of it was "sound teaching/doctrine".

Yes, of course.  G. Losh did when he received the subpoena to show in court.  As a coward, he had his lawyers devise a "legitimate" excuse not to appear.  With all your lawyerly background, did you have something to do with that?
Yes, of course.  And they pay the consequences.
What does that have to do with it?

They have, by hiding child abuse cases instead of reporting to the police where mandatory.

from 3:15 G.Jackson said how WTJWorg is driven BY FAITH (his literal words are: "faith driven organization"). This is interesting, because publication speaking about "spirit guided (driven) organization". Here we see some specific and very new moment in GB Vocabulary, about what power and impetus is behind this Organization.
Now, about my previous quote about G. Jackson testimony. Just continue to listen, and please, have concentration.

Being guided also usually involves feeling that what's being done is important, but there isn't the compulsive aspect. What there is is the sense that when the person involved gets to a point where the way forward is unclear, just the right people, information, funding, etc. seems to appear in an inexplicable way. 62 views

As an interesting aside, dovetailing with another discussion I started  of "WHY ... does God not consider Warfare .... Murder ?" (paraphrased?) ...here is how the United States viewed General Lee's waging of war against it.
    ===========================================================
From the Spring 2005 Issue of " Prologue Magazine"::
" On a spring day 140 years ago, Union Gen. Ulysses S. Grant and Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee met face to face in the parlor of Wilmer McLean's house in Appomattox Court House, Virginia. On that historic occasion, April 9, 1865, the two generals formalized the surrender of Lee's Army of Northern Virginia, thus bringing an end to four years of fighting between North and South.
After agreeing upon terms of the surrender, the generals each selected three officers to oversee the surrender and parole of Lee's army. Later that day, Lee and six of his staff signed a document granting their parole.
On May 29, 1865, President Andrew Johnson issued a Proclamation of Amnesty and Pardon to persons who had participated in the rebellion against the United States. There were fourteen excepted classes, though, and members of those classes had to make special application to the President.
Lee sent an application to Grant and wrote to President Johnson on June 13, 1865:
"Being excluded from the provisions of amnesty & pardon contained in the proclamation of the 29th Ulto; I hereby apply for the benefits, & full restoration of all rights & privileges extended to those included in its terms. I graduated at the Mil. Academy at West Point in June 1829. Resigned from the U.S. Army April '61. Was a General in the Confederate Army, & included in the surrender of the Army of N. Va. 9 April '65."
On October 2, 1865, the same day that Lee was inaugurated as president of Washington College in Lexington, Virginia, he signed his Amnesty Oath, thereby complying fully with the provision of Johnson's proclamation. But Lee was not pardoned, nor was his citizenship restored. And the fact that he had submitted an amnesty oath at all was soon lost to history.
More than a hundred years later, in 1970, an archivist at the National Archives discovered Lee's Amnesty Oath among State Department records (reported in Prologue, Winter 1970). Apparently Secretary of State William H. Seward had given Lee's application to a friend as a souvenir, and the State Department had pigeonholed the oath.
In 1975, Lee's full rights of citizenship were posthumously restored by a joint congressional resolution effective June 13, 1865.
At the August 5, 1975, signing ceremony, President Gerald R. Ford acknowledged the discovery of Lee's Oath of Allegiance in the National Archives and remarked: "General Lee's character has been an example to succeeding generations, making the restoration of his citizenship an event in which every American can take pride." "
    ===========================================================
Perhaps it is because of conscience, that God does not consider warfare, murder, as all non agenda driven men of conscience fully realize.

Even in the military, if one Officer gives another subordinate Officer a legal, but clearly humiliating order .... such as scrubbing the bathroom floor with a toothbrush ... he is obligated  to obey that order ... or resign his commission as an Officer in that military.
Robert E. Lee, a Union Army  Military Officer, was ordered to wage war against those States in rebellion, including his native Virginia, during the American Civil war.
He disobeyed that lawful order, stating "I cannot raise my sword against my native Virginia", resigned his commission in the United States Army, and joined the Confederate States of America, and DEFENDED Virginia against invasion, and waged war against the United States of America.
Sometimes a REAL man has to disobey legitimate authority over him, to obey the dictates of his own conscience.
You have to be a man first ... before you can be a theocratic man, and of course that applies also to women.
    Insects have males and females.

If GB consider how particular secular law is not opposite to Bible principles then they will obey such secular law.
What part of Romans 13 GB don't understand? Or do they interpret it under own preference? And how issue of obeying secular law depends on individual or group understanding of subject inside particular time frame and circumstances?
