Sri Lanka has only one convention hall which is situated at 44, Agaraduguru Mawatha,Ekala,Ja-Ela WP. This was built on some where around 1990's. Now the Sri Lanka branch committee has decided to sell the property. I was informed that the minimum publisher requirement to have an Assembly hall is the reason for the sale. Sri lanka has only 6,000 publishers, if Sri Lankan publishers are not enough to own a Assembly hall, then why did the governing body build it in the 1990's?

This is a short clip based on the concept of the upcoming film written by Patrick Chilvers in collaboration with Alex Riker, a former Jehovah's Witness. Blood [working title] is a feature film about a woman torn between deeply held beliefs and the risk of losing her daughter. An electrician in just his second day of work at the downtown Los Angeles Wilshire Grand construction site fell 53 stories to his death Thursday, striking a vehicle and prompting an evacuation of the building. The man, who was identified Friday as Joseph Sabbatino, 36, of Palmdale, struck the rear of a woman’s car on Wilshire Boulevard around noon, according to Sgt. Barry Montgomery, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman. Turner Construction, the company that manages the building site, said late Thursday that the worker had no reason to be above the third floor. In a statement, the company said safety protections were not a factor in the fall. “We have confirmed with CalOSHA and LAPD that the incident which occurred at the Wilshire Grand project site today was not work-related,” the statement said. “After an initial on-site investigation, Cal OSHA has confirmed that no fall-protection violations were observed. Our hearts go out to the family of the deceased. We are also sending our deepest sympathies to our loyal and dedicated workers, for whom today’s tragedy is deeply saddening.” L.A. Times photographer describes moment when worker plummeted to death at Wilshire Grand hotel The building project will shut down Friday “to honor our workforce and out of respect,” and counselors would be available to help workers through “this very difficult situation,” the statement said. The man who died had been working on the tower’s 53rd floor, which does not yet have windows. However, the floor is outfitted with an eight-foot-high “integrity fence” — a metal barrier intended to keep construction workers, building materials and tools from falling out of the tower. Safety nets have also been hung to catch falling objects at some of the building’s highest points, but the man fell from a floor below those. Chris Martin, head of the architectural firm that designed the building, said the construction site was shut down after the man’s death. He said there would have been no reason for him to be doing electrical work that close to the edge of the building. “We extend our condolences to the family and wish them well ... in a tragic situation,” Martin told reporters Thursday afternoon. Neither Montgomery nor Martin would say if the man was wearing a safety harness. A spokesman for Cal-OSHA said the man was an employee of Irvine-based ASSI Security. The agency has also launched an investigation into his death. The man’s death prompted an immediate shutdown and evacuation of the tower, as construction foremen were asked to conduct head counts of the on-site staff. The process took about an hour, said Dave Snodgrass, an operator of a construction elevator. Martin said the project had a workforce of 891 people this week. No one had suffered a serious injury at the site until Thursday’s incident, he said. News of the man’s death stunned onlookers who milled around the police tape blocking traffic along stretches of Wilshire and Figueroa Street. Police erected a white tent in the middle of Wilshire next to the woman’s car, which sat idle in the roadway with its passenger door open. Maurice Lopez, who works outside at the nearby Bonaventure, has watched the building rise slowly over the last two years. He said he was disturbed to hear someone working on the project had died. “That’s crazy. Usually when you walk by here, you see the guys up there attached to something,” said Lopez, 50, of Los Angeles. “Now I’m gonna feel sick walking by here.” Reached by telephone Thursday, Michael Willey, owner of ASSI Security, said the company had been notified of the employee's death but was not yet prepared to comment. Upon completion, the 1,100-foot Wilshire Grand tower will be the tallest structure west of the Mississippi. The $1.2-billion hotel and office project is scheduled to be completed next year. The practice of using donated funds from Jehovah’s Witnesses to purchase a very high probability of “winning” an award is not new for the Watchtower organization. Since at least 2002, Watchtower has amassed a collection of certificates and statues, the result of dozens of submissions to numerous for-profit organizations, bypassing legitimate and critical sources of acclaim. Located just outside the Brooklyn, New York office of senior Governing Body aide Robert Wallen stands a bookcase featuring a plethora of Telly and Aurora certificates and statues, purchased over a 14+ year period. A glass wall is all that separates this display from tens of thousands of Jehovah’s Witness tourists who pilgrimage to Brooklyn Heights each year. The next best thing to having actually won an Emmy award is apparently having someone think you won that award. For a few witty entrepreneurs, a golden opportunity emerged. According to its website, the Telly Awards was founded in 1978 and “is the premier award honoring outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest video and film productions, and online commercials, video and films.” [NOTE: – in their press release package, Telly declares 1979 as the date of their founding instead of 1978] Combining a website with a shopping cart, clever marketing campaigns and a contract with the same manufacturer who produces the Oscar and Emmy statuettes, Telly zeroed in on an untapped market of emerging video creators who would jump at the chance to showcase a trophy which bears a striking resemblance to the Emmy statue. Official Emmy Award How does it work? When Watchtower produces a video or online news release, it uploads the video or URL to Telly using a web submission form, paying for this opportunity according to the number of entries and categories chosen. Per the Telly website: “The Telly Awards Final Entry Fee is $105 (U.S dollars) for single entries and $190 (U.S Dollars) for campaign entries.” After the published “deadline” for entries, Telly contacts the “contestant” and advises them that they have won, in most cases, either a silver or bronze award. Once notified, the organization must cough up $210 U.S. for the trophy, which weighs approximately 4.5 pounds, one half the weight of an Oscar. You would think that a frame-able certificate would come with your victory, but sadly, this too is for sale – for $45.00.

Governing Body member Leo K. Greenlees was forced to resign and leave Bethel in late 1984. He entered the Toronto, Canada Bethel in 1936, eventually becoming treasurer of the Canadian branch and of the IBSA of Canada. In 1964 he went to Brooklyn Bethel, and in 1965 was elected as a director of the Society's New York corporation. As a director Greenlees automatically became a "governing body" member when that body was formally instituted in 1971. He often spoke at Gilead graduations, and was the concluding speaker for the day at the Watchtower Centennial business meeting at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on October 6, 1984. A 1982 Watchtower mentions him as being on the Teaching Committee of the Governing Body. Greenlees' last mention in Watchtower publications is in the December 1, 1984 Watchtower where he is said to have passed out diplomas at the September Gilead graduation. In late 1984, Greenlees was allegedly convicted by the rest of the Governing Body of molesting a ten year old boy. My information is that the boy's parents had complained to the Society and it took action. Greenlees was a friend of the family and often visited them. After leaving Bethel Greenlees served as a Special Pioneer and eventually an elder in the "Downtown" congregation in New Orleans, Louisiana. He died in the late 1980s. Interestingly, the boy who Greenlees molested applied for Bethel service a few years later, around 1991, and was rejected. Watchtower leaders apparently feared that other Bethelites would tell him the 'rumors' about Greenlees, not knowing that he was Greenlees' victim, and cause the young man to know that justice had not been done. He might then have confirmed the rumors.

Information regarding this former member of the Governing Body is hard to find. This is a snippet of some information found online about him: I think in today's world the situation would have been handled differently since nowadays they have made a distinction between homosexual tendencies / thoughts and a "practicing homosexual". -------------------------------------------------------------- Governing Body member Ewart Chitty (born ca. 1898) resigned his position in 1979. He entered the London Bethel in 1921, began to work in "the office", and by 1938 held some sort of official position, as two 1938 Watchtowers have him reporting to J. F. Rutherford on the attendance of Bethel family members at the "family" study. By 1942 Chitty was the secretary of the International Bible Students Association (IBSA; the Society's British equivalent of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York, Inc.). Somewhere along the line he was appointed as secretary-treasurer of the IBSA, which position he held until his appointment to the Governing Body in November 1974. After his 1979 resignation from the GB, Chitty remained in Brooklyn working in Writing Correspondence, so he was certainly in good standing. A 1981 Awake! article has Chitty making comments about people having lost their love of neighbor and God. Apparently by this time Chitty was drinking heavily, according to close acquaintances. Likely this contributed to his being dismissed from Brooklyn and reassigned to the London Bethel a few years later. There he worked at an assignment of little responsibility, but was appointed an elder in a local congregation. Chitty died about 1993. As to Chitty's alleged homosexuality, the information I have is mixed. He certainly made some remarks in his 1963 life story in The Watchtower that leaned in this direction. By then he had roomed with the same man for 30 years and just about gushed when speaking about him. See the email comments below for one Brit's take on this. When in Brooklyn, Chitty seems to have preferred younger men as roommates. The actual charge brought to the GB against Chitty was made by a former roommate and involved some sort of inappropriate conduct. The GB concluded that Chitty had homosexual tendencies, whatever that means, and asked him to resign. Chitty could hardly do anything but comply with the rest of the GB's wishes, since his only alternative would have been to leave Bethel at age 81 and after being there for 58 years. It may well be that the GB didn't view Chitty as guilty of homosexual activity, since he remained a Bethel member in Brooklyn or London, but it may also be that they made a deal: Chitty would remain quiet about where "the dead bodies" were buried as long as the Society cared for him in his old age.
