Alzasior Lutor reacted to Queen Esther in BERN HOSPITAL IN SWITZERLAND REFUSES TO MAKE A SURGERY WITHOUT TRANSFUSION ;-(
A hospital in Bern refused to operate a Jehovah's Witness. The patient would not have accepted blood transfusion in an emergency. The man filed a complaint for racial discrimination, but he flashed in court.   ( pay  attention  Brother's & Sister's... )
"Be thou determined not to eat the blood, for the blood is the soul, and thou shalt not eat the soul with the flesh."
There are such and similar passages in the Bible which prompted members of Jehovah's Witnesses, often referred to as a sect, to renounce blood transfusions in medical treatments.
For doctors, however, this wish is a dilemma for complications during surgery: on the one hand, the salvation of life is a simple measure, on the other the patient's self-determination right.
A list hospital in the canton of Berne recently completely avoided this problem. It refused to allow Jehovah's Witnesses to carry out surgery on a herniated disc.
The patient was then treated in another clinic, but filed a complaint with the prosecutor's office. The accusations are, among other things, attempted coercion against the hospital supply law and racial discrimination.
The prosecutor, however, did not take the case. On the other hand, the Jehovah's Witnesses filed a complaint. Now the Supreme Court also concluded, in a leading judgment, that the hospital had not violated any law.
    Emergency situation for patient?
The story began in September 2015. At that time, an attending physician registered Jehovah's Witnesses in a first hospital for the operation of discus hernia.
After an interview with the anesthetist, the patient refused to sign a declaration of consent specially created for members of the religious community. It should be noted that blood transfusions may be carried out in an emergency.
Because the patient did not want this, the anesthetist informed the doctor that the operation could not be performed. For the hospital was not ready to "let a patient bleed to death".
However, the Jehovah's Witness believed that "there was no reason to consider a blood transfusion." It was a "small, routine operation."
If he had not mentioned that he was a Jehovah's Witness, blood transfusion would never have been an issue, he believes. With the declaration of consent, the hospital had brought him into an emergency situation in which he had to decide between his conviction of faith and his "acute endangering" state of health.
    No racial discrimination
On the other hand, the first-treatment hospital argued that non-discrimination of a particular religious community was the aim of the consent declaration.
The point is that treatment can also be carried out in the event of an emergency according to the rules of medical art - so-called lege artis. In addition, the risk of a stronger hemorrhage "is not simply negligible".
Both the public prosecutor's office and the judges appear to be on the side of the hospital. In particular, the facts of racial discrimination are not applicable.
Although a list hospital is in principle subject to treatment. Moreover, the Jehovah's Witnesses would fulfill the prerequisites for being protected as a religious group by the Racism Discrimination Act.
The decisive factor is not the size of the group, but it is regarded as such by its members and externally.
    Bleeding always possible
Racial discrimination would, however, be present only if a clinic refused to provide services to individuals on account of their race, ethnicity or religion on the same terms as those offered to the public. In the current case, this is not true.
For the Jehovah's Witnesses demanded a restriction in the form of a renunciation of blood transfusions. He also accepted his death in complications. However, professional ethics requires a doctor to do everything in his power to save a human life.
For this reason, the health care law provides that no medical doctor can be compelled to seek treatment that does not correspond to his "ethical or religious convictions". It is also not relevant, as is probably a strong bleeding during an operation. This is always always possible and must be taken into account.
    Operation was not an emergency
The judges also regard the accusation of the attempted coercion as untenable. It was not an emergency or an urgent operation. In the case of planned interventions, a hospital has the freedom to decide whether a treatment is acceptable under the desired conditions or not.
In addition, the clinic did not want the Jehovah's Witnesses to be removed from his confession. She wanted to prevent the medical staff from being "forced to leave a possible sensible measure in a treatable emergency situation."
Finally, the judges also conclude that the case is purely theoretical. After the cancellation, the physician could find another hospital in which the operation could be performed under the conditions desired by the patient and even on the originally scheduled date. The disputable service had thus been provided in its entirety. (Bernese newspaper)

“This is my 16 year old son JJ, who is in Pioneer Service School this week with five other pioneers from our congregation in tiny Ignacio, Colorado, USA just like so many other pioneers at the end of this service year.
    ??????
What is remarkable about his story…is that he almost didn’t make it. On June 29 (from archives) while traveling home from the regional convention, we were involved in a terrible accident, all 5 of us in the lower picture were injured, but JJ was lifeflighted to university hospital because of extent of his internal injuries.
    ??????
Because of Jehovah’s help and the strength of his faith (he was baptized at age 9), this young man’s remarkable recovery speed allowed him to reach this important milestone. We are so proud of him, and other young people say they now want to pursue pioneering in their youth, just like JJ. The prayers of so many righteous ones were favourably heard!”

On Monday, July 17, the Russian Supreme Court rejected an appeal of an earlier rulingsanctioning Jehovah’s Witnesses as an extremist group. As a last ditch effort, Russian Jehovah’s Witnesses intend to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights. But, as of now, Jehovah’s Witness gatherings and preaching are criminal offenses in Russia. The Russian government also has the legal authority to liquidate any property held by Jehovah’s Witnesses as an organization.
There are over eight million Jehovah’s Witnesses in 240 countries worldwide. Russia, with a population of more than 150 million, has a total of 117,000 Jehovah’s Witnesses—one Jehovah’s Witness per 850 people.

Who are Jehovah’s Witnesses, and why would the Russian, or any, government consider them to be a threat?
    Early history
The story of Jehovah’s Witnesses begins in the late 19th century near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with a group of students studying the Bible. The group was led by Charles Taze Russell, a religious seeker from a Presbyterian background. These students understood “Jehovah,” a version of the Hebrew “Yaweh,” to be the name of God the Father himself.
Russell and his followers looked forward to Jesus Christ establishing a “millennium” or a thousand-year period of peace on Earth. This “Golden Age” would see the Earth transformed to its original purity, with a “righteous” social system that would not have poverty or inequality.
Russell died in 1916 without witnessing the return of Jesus Christ.
But his group endured and grew. The name “Jehovah’s Witnesses” was formally adopted in the 1930s.
Early Jehovah’s Witnesses believed 1914 to be the beginning of the end of worldly governmentsthat would culminate with the Battle of Armageddon. Armageddon specifically refers to Mount Megiddo in Israel where some Christians believe the final conflict between good and evil will take place. Jehovah’s Witnesses, however, expected that the Battle of Armageddon would be worldwide with Jesus leading a “heavenly army” to defeat the enemies of God.
They also believed that after Armageddon, Jesus would rule the world from heaven with 144,000 “faithful Christians,” as specified in the Book of Revelation. Other faithful Christians would be reunited with dead loved ones and live on a renewed Earth.
Over the years, Jehovah’s Witnesses have reinterpreted elements of this timeline and have abandoned setting specific dates for the return of Jesus Christ. But they still look forward to the Golden Age that Russell and his Bible students expected.
Given the group’s belief in a literal thousand-year earthly reign of Christ, scholars of religion classify Jehovah’s Witnesses as a “millennarian movement.”
    What are their beliefs?
Jehovah’s Witnesses deny the Trinity. For most Christians, God is a union of three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Instead, Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that Jesus is distinct from God—not united as one person with him. The “Holy Spirit,” then, refers to God’s active power. Such doctrines distinguish Jehovah’s Witnesses from mainline Christian denominations, all of which hold that God is “triune” in nature.
But like other Christian denominations, Jehovah’s Witnesses praise God through worship and song. Their gathering places are called “Kingdom Halls,” which are ordinary-looking buildings – like small conference centers—that have the advantage of being easily built. Inside are rows of chairs and a podium for speakers, but little special adornment. Jehovah’s Witnesses are best known for devoting a substantial amount of time to Bible study and door-to-door evangelizing.
Their biblical interpretations and missionary work certainly have critics. But it is the political neutrality of the group that has attracted the most suspicion.
Jehovah’s Witnesses accept the legitimate authority of government in many matters. For example, they pay taxes, following Jesus’ admonition in Mark 12:17 “to render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s.”
But they do not vote in elections, serve in the military or salute the flag. Such acts, they believe, compromise their primary loyalty to God.
    A history of persecution
Jehovah’s Witnesses have no political affiliations, and they renounce violence. However, they make an easy target for governments looking for internal enemies, as they refuse to bow down to government symbols. Many nationalists call them “enemies of the state.”
As a result, they have often suffered persecution throughout history in many parts of the world.
Jehovah’s Witnesses were jailed as draft evaders in the U.S. during both world wars. In a Supreme Court ruling in 1940, school districts were allowed to expel Jehovah’s Witnesses who refused to salute the American flag. Through subsequent legal battles in the 1940s and 1950s, Jehovah Witnesses helped expand safeguards for religious liberty and freedom of conscienceboth in the United States and Europe.
In Nazi Germany, Jehovah’s Witnesses were killed in concentration camps; a purple triangle was used by the Nazis to mark them. In the 1960s and ‘70’s, scores of African Jehovah’s Witnesses were slaughtered by members of The Youth League of the Malawi Congress Party for refusing to support dictator Hastings Banda. Many Witnesses fled to neighboring Mozambique, where they were held in internment camps.
    Now it is Russia.
The Russian Supreme Court maintains that the country needs to be protected from disloyal religious fanatics.
But given their commitment to God above all things, Jehovah’s Witnesses see themselves as being persecuted by those who value loyalty to country over any other principle. They also believe that the Russian government has “trampled on the guarantees of their own laws.”
Many Jehovah’s Witnesses still attach a great importance to dates. Many Jehovah’s Witnesses are filled with foreboding, as April 20, the day the Russian Supreme Court first ruled against them, is also the birthday of Adolf Hitler.
Their memories of persecution have not faded with time.

Do You LIve in Fear? - What Can Your Do About it? - Why is there Fear? - Does God Care? ~ YOU ARE NOT ALONE! ~  (Long but we need to Cope!) I am a Survivor!
    ????
(1 Peter 3:13-15) . . .Indeed, who is the man that will harm YOU if YOU become zealous for what is good? 14 But even if YOU should suffer for the sake of righteousness, YOU are happy. However, the object of their fear do not YOU fear, neither become agitated. 15 But sanctify the Christ as Lord in YOUR hearts, always ready to make a defense before everyone that demands of YOU a reason for the hope in YOU, but doing so together with a mild temper and deep respect."
    ????
Why Do So Many Live in Fear?
A CLIMATE of fear envelops mankind. It is an invisible but discernible mood, an atmosphere that affects nearly everyone, even though it often goes unnoticed. What has produced this atmosphere? What makes some people feel frightened when they leave the house? Why do many feel unsafe at work? Why do many fear for the safety of their children? What dangers make people fearful in their own home?
Of course, there are numerous causes of fear, but we will consider four dangers that can affect people constantly—urban violence, sexual harassment, rape, and domestic violence. First, let us examine violence in cities. The subject is especially timely now because almost half of mankind live in urban areas.
    ????
    You have Dangers in Cities
The first cities were probably built for protection, but many people now see cities as danger zones. What was once seen as sheltering has become frightening. Crowded city centers provide ideal conditions for muggers, and in some cities, poor neighborhoods with few streetlights and few policemen are dangerous to enter. In many countries a vast gulf has developed between the living standards of the rich and the poor, resulting in simmering resentment. Hordes of people who feel deprived of basic needs have ransacked the exclusive neighborhoods of the elite. That hasn’t happened yet in some cities, but the situation seems like a ticking time bomb that is bound to explode—no one knows when.
The threat of thieves and revolutionaries would seem enough, but there are other causes of anxiety adding to the climate of fear.
    ????
    The Horror of Sexual Harassment
For millions of women, whistles, obscene gestures, and lecherous stares are a daily nightmare. Says Asia Week: “Surveys reveal that one Japanese woman in four has been sexually assaulted in public, with 90% of the incidents taking place in trains. . . . Only 2% of victims take any action when mauled. Most cited fear of their molesters’ response as the main reason for their silence.”
    ????
    Fear of Rape
Women have more to fear than just the loss of their dignity. Sexual harassment sometimes implies a threat of rape. Understandably, rape is a crime that many women fear even more than murder. A woman may suddenly find herself alone in a place where she fears she may be raped. She may see a man she doesn’t know or doesn’t trust. Her heart races as she frantically tries to assess the situation. ‘What will he do? Where can I run? Should I scream?’ Frequent experiences like that exact a cumulative toll on women’s health. Many people choose not to live in an urban area or prefer not to visit cities because of such fears.
    ????
“The fear, the anxiety, the distress are all a daily part of urban life for many women,” says the book The Female Fear. “Women’s fear of rape is a sense that one must always be on guard, vigilant and alert, a feeling that causes a woman to tighten with anxiety if someone is walking too closely behind her, especially at night. It is . . . a feeling women are never totally free of.”
    ????
    Fear of Violence at Home
The private practice of beating wives into submission is a gross injustice carried out worldwide—and only recently recognized as a crime in many places. In India one report claimed that “at least 45 per cent of Indian women are slapped, kicked or beaten by their husbands.”
    ????
Spousal abuse is a serious global health hazard. Concerning women between the ages of 15 and 44 in the United States, the Federal Bureau of Investigation reports that more are injured by domestic violence than by car accidents, muggings, and rapes combined.
    ????
Domestic violence is therefore much more serious than an occasional argument that develops into an exchange of slaps. Many women live in fear of injury and death at home. A national survey in Canada showed that a third of women who had suffered domestic violence had at some time feared for their lives. In the United States, two researchers concluded: “Home is the most dangerous place for women and frequently the site of cruelty and torture.”
    ????
Does Fear Affect the Way You Act?
Living as we do with fear all around us, we may be unaware of how many of our daily decisions are governed by fear. How often does fear affect the way you act?
    ????
Has fear of violence led you or your family to avoid arriving home at night alone? Does fear affect your use of public transportation? Have the dangers of commuting affected what employment you take? Or has fear of fellow workers or fear of people you would have to deal with affected your choice of work? Has fear affected your social life or the entertainment you can enjoy? Perhaps fear of meeting unruly drunks and crowds has dissuaded you from going to certain sports events and concerts? Has fear affected what you do at school? For many parents, fear of their children becoming delinquents is a factor influencing their choice of schools, and fear certainly explains why many of them choose to pick up their children who could walk home or use public transportation.
    ????
Indeed, mankind lives in a climate of fear. But fear of violence has been with us for most of mankind’s history. Can we really expect anything different? Is freedom from fear just a dream? Or is there solid reason to expect a future in which no one will fear anything bad?
    ????
Common Now but Not Forever! ***?
Will It Get Worse or Better?
What does the near future hold as respects fear? Will fear keep on increasing, or will it be overcome? Let us again note what Jesus told his apostles.
    ???
He pointed to something that lies in the near future—great tribulation. Here are his words: “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then the sign of the Son of man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will beat themselves in lamentation, and they will see the Son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.”—Matthew 24:29, 30.
    ???
(Matthew 24:29-30) 29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 And then the sign of the Son of man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will beat themselves in lamentation, and they will see the Son of man . . ."
    ???
So we can expect that the great tribulation will soon begin. Other Bible prophecies indicate that its first part will be a reprisal on false religion around the globe. Then will come the shocking developments just quoted, including celestial phenomena of some sort. What will be the effect on millions of people?
    ???
Well, consider a parallel account of Jesus’ reply, where we find amplified prophetic comments:
“There will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth anguish of nations, not knowing the way out because of the roaring of the sea and its agitation, while men become faint out of fear and expectation of the things coming upon the inhabited earth; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.”—Luke 21:25, 26.
    ???
(Luke 21:25-26) 25 “Also, there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth anguish of nations, not knowing the way out because of the roaring of the sea and [its] agitation, 26 while men become faint out of fear and expectation of the things coming upon the inhabited earth; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken."
    ???
That lies ahead of us. But not all humans will then be in such fear as to make them become faint. On the contrary, Jesus said: “As these things start to occur, raise yourselves erect and lift your heads up, because your deliverance is getting near.”—Luke 21:28.

Alzasior Lutor reacted to Queen Esther in Jehovah in English - Basic statement by Jehovah's Witnesses...
Jehovah in English  -  Basic  statement  by  Jehovah's Witnesses:
The Hebrew Name of God יהוה rendered generally as YHWH and thought to be pronounced in Hebrew something like Yahweh or perhaps Yahoweh is properly translated into English as Jehovah.
    Argument by opposers:
That is not the correct way to do it,  because Someone from the US named John who visits Mexico or Spain is not Juan;  they are   still John.
    Counter-argument by Jehovah’s Witnesses:
Jesus is not God’s Son’s name either; it is properly rendered in the Hebrew as Yeshua or Yehoshua, and even the Greek is Iesous, yet the opposers do not complain about it being rendered as “Jesus”  in English.
Other Hebrew names are rendered or translated into English with no complaint.
Bibles in English use John and in Spanish Juan, etc.
To settle this problem, what we need is Biblical example. That should settle the matter to the satisfaction of all.
“But in Joppa there was a certain disciple named Tabitha, which, when translated, means Dorcas. She abounded in good deeds and gifts of mercy that she was rendering.”—Acts 9:36.
(“Dorcas” is the Greek and corresponds with “Tabitha” which is the Aramaic;  both names mean “Gazelle.”)
So, which one is her name, Tabitha or Dorcas? Let’s continue reading in Acts 9:39 & 40:
“At that Peter rose and went with them. And when he arrived, they led him up into the upper chamber; and all the widows presented themselves to him weeping and exhibiting many inner garments and outer garments that Dorcas used to make while she was with them. But Peter put everybody outside and, bending his knees, he prayed, and, turning to the body, he said: “Tabitha, rise!” She opened her eyes and, as she caught sight of Peter, she sat up.”
So, both names are used interchangeably!
Even the Apostle Peter, whose name means “A Piece of Rock,” is named in five different ways in the Scriptures: by the Hebrew “Symeon,” the Greek “Simon” (from a Hebrew root meaning “hear; listen”), “Peter” (a Greek name he alone bears in the Scriptures), its Semitic equivalent “Cephas” (perhaps related to the Hebrew kephim´ [rocks] used at Job 30:6; Jeremiah 4:29), and the combination “Simon Peter.”—Acts 15:14; Matthew 10:2; 16:16; John 1:42.
And need we even mention “Saul, who is also Paul” as stated in Acts 13:9 ?
Therefore, based upon these Scriptural precedents, the English Jehovah is as correct as the Hebrew יהוה when referring to our Almighty God, the Most High over all the earth.—Exodus 6:3; Psalm 83:18.
One thing for sure: יהוה is NOT LORD nor GOD, which is what most Bibles replace it with.

Three days of collective Bible study: Jehovah's Witnesses in the wide round of the Frankfurt football arena.
Baby carriages on strollers stand in front of the main entrance of the stadium. A young mother crouches on a stone, concentrates on her cell phone. Her daughter sleeps in the baby carriage. Through headphones the young woman follows the sermon in the arena. Thanks to the Bible app on the smartphone, she can also work diligently during the morning sleep of her child. The Jehovah's Witnesses congress attracted some 14,000 visitors yesterday to the Waldstadion in Frankfurt. And for today and tomorrow, speaker Erika Krämer expects similar figures. The visitors have made a striking appearance. Most women wear clothes, the men come in shirt and tie. And they all have a name tag. In this fellowship, you are a brother and sister to you. 1400 folders are in use, volunteers who control the pockets with an apologizing smile. In times of terror, one must be more careful, says Krämer.
The folders themselves are more of a service provider. Anyone looking for the map is immediately surrounded by several helpers. "It is a long time here." If you still look irritated, you will be taken to the square - unobtrusive but definitely. In the upper tier, a whole block is reserved for "old people". Courtesy is trump, no one would speak of "old" here. The elderly have the best view of the speakers who preach to the congress topic "Do not give up". They sit, listen and make notes. For a congress of Jehovah's Witnesses means work. First and foremost. The printed Bible holds only a few in this hand. God's word is stored on the mobile phone. A volunteer center is set up at the entrance to the arena. Those who would like to contribute during the three-day congress will be able to report.
"With money it is such a thing"
The snake in front of the switch is long. "There are always small things to do," says co-ordinator Jens Wilke. To distribute water to the "old", for example. Or waste garbage. The helpers enter with their handynummer on a list. If an assignment is waiting for them, they will be notified by SMS. Wilke said that this would be very discreet, after all, that the other congress visitors would not be disturbed. The largest number of volunteers he needs to guard the donation boxes, adds the coordinator. Finally, the congress, which attracts visitors from Hesse, the Palatinate, Saarland and Baden-Württemberg, is financed by donations. The rent for the three days in the Waldstadion is expected to hit just half a million euros.
But the visitors turn out to be generous. "We do not leave the boxes alone. It's such a thing with money, "says Wilke. Sultry and hot it is on Friday morning. Trays and drinks are unpacked. For the lunch break everyone has brought something. It is shared, it is laughed. We know each other. "This is like a family meeting with Jesus," says Kramer. The high point of the congress is, however, for many of the visitors only today: At 11.45 hours, about a hundred baptized people will decide publicly in accordance with the principles of the Bible under the eyes of their "brothers and sisters".

    Jesus’ Birth—How It Brings Peace
    ?????
THE proclamation of “peace among men of goodwill” was not the only prophecy connected with Jesus’ birth. In addition to what the angels announced to the astonished shepherds, heavenly messengers had made divinely inspired declarations about the newborn Jesus to Mary and her husband, Joseph.
    ?????
A consideration of these messages will enable us to gain a broader perspective on Jesus’ birth and to understand the real significance behind the angelic promise of peace among men.
    ?????
Gabriel explained: “Look! you will conceive in your womb and give birth to a son, and you are to call his name Jesus. This one will be great and will be called Son of the Most High; and Jehovah God will give him the throne of David his father, and he will rule as king over the house of Jacob forever, and there will be no end of his kingdom.” Mary questioned how this was to be, since she, a virgin, was not having intercourse with a man. Gabriel responded that the child would be conceived by means of God’s holy spirit. This would be no ordinary child.—Luke 1:28-35.

    A Foretold King ?
Gabriel’s words must have helped Mary to discern that the son she would bear was the subject of ancient prophecies. The disclosure that Jehovah would give Mary’s son “the throne of David his father” would make her—and indeed any Jewish person acquainted with the Scriptures—think of the promise that God had made to King David of Israel.
    ?????
Through the prophet Nathan, Jehovah had told David: “Your house and your kingdom will certainly be steadfast to time indefinite before you; your very throne will become one firmly established to time indefinite.” (2 Samuel 7:4, 16) Jehovah stated concerning David: “I shall certainly set up his seed forever and his throne as the days of heaven. His seed itself will prove to be even to time indefinite, and his throne as the sun in front of me.” (Psalm 89:20, 29, 35, 36) Thus, it was no coincidence that Mary had descended from the house of David, as had Joseph.
    ?????
These were not the only prophecies in the Hebrew Scriptures regarding a royal son of David. Mary would also have been familiar with Isaiah’s prophecy: “There has been a child born to us, there has been a son given to us; and the princely rule will come to be upon his shoulder. And his name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. To the abundance of the princely rule and to peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and upon his kingdom in order to establish it firmly and to sustain it by means of justice and by means of righteousness, from now on and to time indefinite. The very zeal of Jehovah of armies will do this.”—Isaiah 9:6, 7.
    ?????
What Gabriel announced to Mary, then, was much more than the miraculous birth of a baby boy. Her son would be the royal heir of King David—the permanent, everlasting heir to a divinely ordained Kingdom. Gabriel’s prophecies concerning Jesus’ future role have profound significance for all of us.

Germany Awards Order of Merit to One of Jehovah’s Witnesses
SELTERS, Germany—Mathilde Hartl, one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, was presented the Order of Merit on February 22, 2013, by the Prime Minister of Bavaria, Horst Seehofer. The Order of Merit is the highest tribute the Federal Republic of Germany awards to individuals for services to the nation.
Ms. Hartl, who lives in Bavaria, was honored for the long-term personal care she has provided for her disabled son Martin, now 26 years old. As a child, he was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), a disorder characterized by progressive muscle degeneration and weakness. As a result, Ms. Hartl gets up throughout the night to attend to his needs, which includes regularly monitoring his breathing and clearing his airway of bronchial secretions to avoid infection or pneumonia. Her other son, Max, also had DMD along with a mental disability. Ms. Hartl lovingly cared for both Martin and Max for many years. Sadly, Max died in 2008, at 19 years of age.
Asked where she gets the strength to provide such comprehensive care, Ms. Hartl answered: “From my religious beliefs. As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, I highly respect life. As long as I can, I want to contribute to my son’s joy in life despite his disability.”
Prime Minister Seehofer praised Ms. Hartl and her fellow honorees when he stated: “Every single one of you has made the world a little bit better.”
