Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) confirmed to ABC News Wednesday that his daughter, Adia Cummings, had been using a car with his congressional license plates to work as a driver for ride-sharing company Lyft.

In a statement Wednesday, the Maryland congressman told ABC that Adia, who graduated from Howard University in Washington, D.C., in May, had been working for Lyft part-time to earn some extra cash.

“In an effort to earn some extra money to pay her expenses at school, she signed up for a part-time position with one of the ride-sharing companies,” he wrote. “They, in turn, gave her a sticker to apply to the windshield of the car,” Cummings said in a statement.

A photo of Cummings’ black Honda was was posted Monday on the local Washington blog, Popville.

The Maryland Democrat apologized and said that Adia has since removed his congressional plates from the vehicle, which she still uses as a Lyft driver.

Cummings’ office told ABC that the car was not a campaign vehicle or an official vehicle.
