Charles “Corky” Leon Wood, 80, of Harrisonville, fell asleep in death in his home on Monday, May 2, 2016.

Charles is survived by the love of his life, Joyce, of 57 years; their children Vickie (Ted) Mitchell of Grandview, Janet Roscher, Matthew (Becky) Wood, Mark (Sabrina) Wood, all of Harrisonville, grandchildren Joyce (Amadeo) Mejia, Clayton Luke Roscher, Kendra Roscher, Caleb John Wood; one great-grandchild, Caison Isaiah Roscher; siblings Rosie Allen, Faye Gillis and Eva Marie Taylor all of Stockton. and Jackie Wood of Delaware County, Okla. along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents Wiley Martin and Rosa (Elder) Wood; siblings Willie Lea Shook, Louise Roe, Wiley Jr. Wood, Claude Wood, Thomas “Frank” Wood and Ruben Wood and granddaughter Faith Mitchell.

Charles was born in Delaware County, Okla. on March 1, 1936. After graduation from Colcord High School he relocated to Kansas City, Mo. to find employment.

Eventually he worked his way from a machinist to a tool and die maker for Drover’s ,where due to his expertise he was flown around the United States for troubleshooting. From there he continued his career at Whitaker Cable in Excelsior Springs, Mo. After a satisfying career, Charles retired, in 1995, from Hettich in Harrisonville.

Charles married Joyce on Nov. 1, 1958 in Kansas City. Their life together is a testament of true love. In 1972, Charles was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. His faith gave him much joy and he in turn treasured sharing Bible truth with others. Fishing, camping, boating and riding ATVs brought Charles refreshment and relaxation. Other hobbies included listening to country music, watching rodeos and Western movies, with family time always being his top priority and where he found the most happiness.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to John Knox Village Hospice for their loving care and support.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses located at 21909 E 283 St. in Harrisonville.
