Elon Musk revealed the first teaser image and new information about the upcoming Tesla Model Y compact SUV during Tuesday’s 2017 Tesla Shareholder Meeting. Tesla initially planned to have the Model Y ride on the Model 3’s platform, but Musk confirmed in the Q&A segment of the shareholder meeting that Model Y will be riding on a completely new platform. Musk believes that a newly engineered platform will allow the company to manufacture the car in a, “way that a car has never been built before,” from a dedicated factory for the production of Model Y. He also stated that he believes the Model Y’s demand will exceed the demand of Model 3, which is already sold out u…

Today, Tesla started the rollout of a new software update for its fleet of vehicles equipped with second generation Autopilot hardware. The new update features what CEO Elon Musk called a ‘silky smooth’ new control algorithm for Autosteer, as well as automatic perpendicular parking and automatic display brightness adjustments. Update: the software update also includes full speed Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), which was previously restricted to low-speed. A Tesla spokesperson confirmed to Electrek that the update is not being pushed over-the-air yet, but it is being rolled into the new vehicles coming out of the Fremont factory and vehicles going into se…

Fed by the virtually unlimited supply of money emanating from the Koch Brothers to influence the media, plenty of people are convinced that electric cars are not as green as they pretend to be. That includes Teslas that recharge at Supercharger locations. After all, they have to get their electricity from somewhere and in many places worldwide, that somewhere is a coal-fired generating plant. The critics ask, what good is it to have zero tailpipe emissions if the stuff that makes the car go is derived from burning coal? One such critic posed that question to Elon Musk yesterday and got an unexpected response. As usual, Musk is at least one step ahead of the…

President Barack Obama signed a letter to the United Nations in 2016 accepting the Paris climate Last week, President Trump announced that the United States would withdraw from the Paris climate agreement. But it will take more than one speech to pull out: Under the rules of the deal, which the White House says it will follow, the earliest any country can leave is Nov. 4, 2020. That means the United States will remain a party to the accord for nearly all of Mr. Trump’s current term, and it could still try to influence the climate talks during that span. So the next four years will be a busy time for climate policy. Mr. Trump’s aides plan to keep working …

We’ve all heard the real estate mantra: location, location, location. As far as price is concerned, where a house is located is typically more important than the actual features of the home. That’s why you can buy a sprawling six-bedroom, six-bath house for less than $250,000 in some markets and pay close to $1 million for a tiny one-bedroom condo in New York City. Beyond real estate values, location also affects the overall cost of living – what you pay not just for housing, but also for food, transportation, healthcare and other everyday expenses. Salaries, of course, play an important role: A smaller salary goes further in places with a lower cost of living, while…
