I was baptized before the red one (1942) but I have the red one, published in 1944, on my piano now. I played at the KH for years, starting very young since I  was taking piano lessons.  While I do enjoy the wonderful arrangements now in use, I do miss the "local flavor" of the past pianists. 
I will miss the song "Flee to the Kingdom" which was song #45 in the red song book

I was baptized in 1942 but I don't remember the song book being used then.   The one I remember quite well is the Kingdom Service Song Book which has a date of 1944.  I was learning to play the piano at the time so was able to play some of the songs in the book (which I still have) at meeting.

Yes this testimony seems definitely biased. While Almighty God has granted us the freedom to make choices of our own volition, having that freedom doesn't mean we are always wise. 30 years ago I had a friend who was convinced he was wiser than Jehovah's organization. So he left. And after many horrible experiences over a span of ten years, one near fatal, he decided to return to Jehovah's house. He came to realize that "like a blind man I was not aware of the danger that was in front of me each day". Truth is not something we can merely wish away.

It must have been a wonderful experience !??

In the 1980's and 90's, my husband and I used to take groups (25) of JWs to New York (50 at a time) to visit Bethel.  Our highlight of the trip was to escort any who wanted to go to meeting Sunday morning to the KH in the 107 building.  There would be visitors from all over the world,  along with various members of the governing body and their wives.  While escorting the groups through the various buildings, we would run over to the 107 to visit with  Russell Kurzen who was at the front desk.  When we went to Europe on the Arosa Star in 1955, we met him, along with many other "old timers", and it was always encouraging to renew our friendship with him.
