SpaceX has been granted an additional $40.7 million in funding by the U.S. Air Force for development of the company’s Raptor engine. According to a U.S. Department of Defense contract published on October 19, 2017 on defense.gov, the new funding will go towards development of a new liquid oxygen and liquid methane engine for the department’s Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle (EELV) program. Each Raptor engine is expected to have three times the thrust of SpaceX’s Merlin 1D engine that’s currently used in the Falcon 9. Tesla has reached an agreement with the Shanghai municipal government to set up a factory in the region, according to a report by . the Wall Street Journal. Under the new deal, the California-based electric carmaker will be able to build a factory in China without needing to partner with a local manufacturer if it agrees to operate within the city’s free-trade zone. Having a manufacturing presence in China will not only allow Tesla to lower its production costs and streamline its Asia supply chain, but also strengthens the company’s relationship with the Chinese government, which may open new doors. Vehicles produced in the country’s free-trade zone would still incur a 2…

Tesla Model 3 owners are beginning to experience the benefits of Autopilot as they continue to log more miles driven and assist in calibration of the vehicle’s suite of cameras, radars and ultrasonic sensors. YouTuber stannous2 who previously gave us a look at Model 3Â’s newly enabled Parallel and Perpendicular Autopark feature is back with a video that shows how Model 3 handles stop-and-go traffic with Autopilot engaged. As a bonus, we also get a glimpse of TeslaÂ’s psychedelic ‘rainbow roadÂ’ easter egg being applied on a Model 3. With Autosteer engaged as denoted by a solid blue steering wheel icon that appears on the left edge of Model 3Â’s touchscreen, the vehicl…

Forty years ago Lynard Skynard's plane went down, killing six. I didn't know it at the time. It was during my righteous period when I was not listening to music. But in the years since I have heard song after song that I have liked, starting with 'Sweet Home Alabama,' only to find it is one of theirs. My righteous period lasted nearly 20 years. It didn't end until my kids reached the age where they wanted to attend concerts like their friends and I wasn't too happy about it. But I realized you cannot stop lava and so I gave in, with the stipulation that I would go along too. The first concert was Weezer. Everyone held their hand out in line to get stamped, so I held m…

When Tesla first announced that it would be expanding its Supercharger network into high density, metropolitan areas with ‘Urban SuperchargersÂ’, press images showed a slimmer and overall more compact installation that was ground-mounted but did not include the traditional Supercharger support base. Teslarati was able to get a close-up look at TeslaÂ’s newest Urban Supercharger in Chicago, capturing details of the chargerÂ’s increased cable length and overall profile, while also discovering a few surprises related to its charging speed. As noted in our review of TeslaÂ’s Urban Supercharger, the slim design is perfect for underground parking garages and parkades where…

Consumer Reports has fired back at Tesla, issuing a statement that defends its recent report that predicts Model 3 to have “average reliability”. “Tesla appears unhappy that CR expects the new-to-market Tesla Model 3 to be of average reliability, which is generally a positive projection for any first model year of a car.” says CR in a press release sent to Teslarati. The nonprofit organization that aims to educate consumers on the value of product, that can be anywhere from a household vacuum cleaner to an automobile, through its product testing reinforces its methodology for making predictions. “Here’s how we make the prediction” notes CR, addressing Tesla’s claim …
