The SpaceX steamroller continues to roll on, and the company’s recent launch of KT SatÂ’s Koreasat 5A satellite is no exception. The 16th Falcon 9 of 2017 took flight from Kennedy Space Center on October 30 and successfully placed its payload into a high-energy geostationary transfer orbit. Before the satellite had even separated from the second stage of Falcon 9, first stage 1042 had already successfully landed aboard SpaceXÂ’s East coast drone ship OCISLY. The floating landing pad extinguished a small fire that was seen creeping up the booster. Barely 72 hours later, the drone ship and its Falcon 9 cargo arrived back at Port Canaveral, docking soon after. Launch photog…

Tesla has begun to send official email invitations to attend its upcoming truck unveiling event, to be held on Thursday, November 16 from the company’s Design Center in Hawthorne, California. The invitation teases with a new photo of the semi-truck thatÂ’s taken from the front three-quarter angle. While weÂ’re not able to see much of the vehicle beyond the large wind deflector thatÂ’s mounted above the main cabin and the attached tractor, the silhouette resembles the shape of a presumed TeslaÂ’s Semi that was captured in a recent spy photo. Details of the Tesla Truck event are light thus far, with the only information being provided in the RSVP form is the 7:00pm openin…

Model S owner and the Tesla community’s resident DIY expert, Erik Strait or otherwise known as DÆrik from his YouTube channel, is back at it with another impressive project: building a life-size Tesla Supercharger for his garage. One might recall that Erik previously showed us how to transform a home garage into a Tesla showroom, and fittingly, this time around giving us insight on how to install a personal Tesla Supercharger into oneÂ’s garage. ItÂ’s first worth noting that this isnÂ’t your standard Tesla DIY project given the projectÂ’s complexity and cost. Erik spent weeks planning for the project, first meticulously measuring every dimension including all radiuse…

Tesla has opened up a new “Secret Level” in its seemingly ever-expanding referral program, this time inviting Model S and X owners to witness a SpaceX Falcon Heavy launch if they fulfill their “Level 3” requirements. With much of the space community anxious to see SpaceXÂ’s inaugural Falcon Heavy launch, which the company has described as the “WorldÂ’s most powerful rocket” (when it launches), the invitation to potentially witness history in the making is, yet, another one of TeslaÂ’s rare and exclusive “amazing adventures” being offered to owners and aimed at stimulating company sales. We recently reported that Tesla owner and YouTuber, Ben Sullins, won a Next G…

It’s no secret that Porsche is looking to soak up market share away from Tesla when the automaker releases its long range, all-electric Mission E in 2019. Arguably one of TeslaÂ’s strongest potential competitors, with decades of manufacturing expertise and support from parent company Volkswagen AG, the German automaker specializing in high performance vehicles is preparing to face financial headwinds as it aims to electrify its fleet. PorscheÂ’s CFO, Lutz Meschke, recently spoke with Automotive News Europe about the companyÂ’s plan to stay profitable as it invests billions into its electric vehicle program. “Today Porsche packs 8,000 to 10,000 euros in added conte…

Based on information released by NASASpaceflight.com, a highly reliable source of insider details, SpaceX’s first Falcon Heavy rocket could roll out to the LC-39A launch pad before the end of November, less than a month away. While the first roll-out (or two) will be dedicated solely to “Wet Dress Rehearsals” (WDR), this will be the first time the iconic vehicle makes it to the pad, and will be a historic event regardless of what follows. No earlier than (NET) “late-November”, the first WDR will see Falcon Heavy go through the usual motions of propellant loading while also conducting an array of systems checks and validations to verify that things are proceeding as e…

Can you really die from a broken heart?
by Guest Nicole- 2 replies

Extreme emotional distress can cause the heart muscles to weaken. When someone loses a loved one or endures a terrible loss, people might say they have a broken heart. But that’s a figure of speech, of course, typically meant to describe the mental pain associated with losing someone extremely close to you. But a proverbial broken heart can cause physical symptoms, too. And sometimes, in rare cases, those physiological changes—often accompanied by other underlying conditions—can be life threatening. A number of high-profile examples over the years have hinted at this: The most recent is Debbie Reynolds, who passed away last December just a few days after her dau…

Tesla CEO Elon Musk provided additional insight on the company’s plans to operate a factory in China during the company’s third-quarter Q&A call with analysts on Wednesday. When asked by Deutsche Bank’s Rod Lache on whether Tesla had plans to invest in building a factory in China and what the impact might be on the company’s capital expenditures, Musk noted that Tesla will not have any significant expenditures in China next year. “In respect to China, I wouldn’t expect any significant CapEx on China until 2019. It won’t be material in 2018.” Musk’s response follows reports that Tesla has received approval from the Shanghai municipal government to operate a factory in…

Tesla has confirmed the source of its Model 3 production bottleneck to be the battery module assembly line at its $5 billion Gigafactory 1 facility in Sparks, Nevada. The Silicon Valley electric car maker noted in its third-quarter 2017 earnings report that the manufacturing process for Model 3Â’s battery modules – processes that were “done by manufacturing systems suppliers” – were taken over and “significantly redesigned” by Tesla, thus causing the delays. “To date, our primary production constraint has been in the battery module assembly line at Gigafactory 1, where cells are packaged into modules.” reads the statement from Tesla in its update letter. Furtherm…

However, following recent stock price declines amid concerns over Model 3 manufacturing bottlenecks and reports of supplier constraints, Baron’s Alex Umansky still maintains a positive outlook for the Silicon Valley-based electric car maker. “In today’s market environment, everyone is trigger happy because we are bombarded with information,” says Umansky. The star fund manager thinks long-term, emphasizing a patient investing approach. “It becomes very difficult for investors to do nothing.” Umansky points to Amazon and Tesla as stocks th…

SpaceX completes 16th launch of 2017, aims for at least 19 before year’s end Following the successful separation of Koreasat 5A from SpaceXÂ’s Falcon 9 second stage, the rocket company has completed its 16th flawless mission of 2017. Several launches still remain in the 2017 manifest, leaving SpaceX with as many as 20 successful launches this year if all goes as planned, and this bodes well for SpaceXÂ’s 2018 goal of 30 or more missions.  Currently coasting in a comfortable geostationary transfer orbit after a wild ride aboard Falcon 9, the launch of Koreasat 5A exemplifies SpaceXÂ’s ever-maturing expertise and comfort with rapid and routine launches and booster…

All eyes are on Wednesday’s Tesla 3Q earnings report and the expected update by CEO Elon Musk on Model 3 production numbers. One might recall that the California-based electric car maker reported an unremarkable 260 Model 3 vehicles produced and 220 delivered in the third quarter, citing “manufacturing bottlenecks” as the reason for missing its original guidance of 1,500 Model units produced by the end of September. However, despite the downbeat production numbers, Wall St. firm Oppenheimer & Co. documented in a research note sent to investors that Model 3-specific machinery at Tesla’s factory was already operational and vehicles were making their way through the pro…
