BRANDON, Miss. — Almost immediately after she found out she was pregnant, Brandon resident Jordan Thiering began preparing for her baby. She bought outfits and stocked up on cloth diapers. She and husband Doug assembled baby furniture and decorated the nursery with the name they had chosen for their son; they would call him Roman, middle name to be determined. They packed a bag, ready for that moment they had to rush off to the hospital. In a multitude of ways, Thiering was prepared for her baby’s arrival. One thing she was not prepared for, however, was to go to court. At 33 weeks pregnant, Thiering got a court order giving her the rights to her placenta. …

This article first appeared on: Lucid Air just hit the astonishingly high speed of 235 mph during its latest round of testing. Lucid previously fitted one of its prototypes with a roll cage to prep for a series of high-speed tests intended to explore the limits of the platform. The prototype, the Lucid Air Alpha Speed Car, was first tested in April 2017. The car was given aerodynamic aids and a parachute for the initial tests to slow the car abruptly in case the straights didn’t prove long enough to reach desired speeds and slow down for the following turns. For this first test, the top speed was software limited to 217 mph, with the driver exiti…

The Wall Street Journal released updated data yesterday on how the elimination of Hong Kong’s vehicle-registration tax waiver for electrics impacted Tesla sales, and the results weren’t stellar. Data analysis from the publication shows that zero new Tesla Model S sedans and Model X SUVs were registered with the Hong Kong transport department in April after the tax break was discontinued at the start of that month. In May, five electric cars were registered for the whole month. Tesla sales boomed before the April 1 rule change, with 2,939 Tesla vehicles registered in March, making for a total of nearly 3,700 for the first quarter of 2017. The end of the tax …

We haven’t seen a Tesla drag racing video in quite some time so needless to say we were pleasantly surprised when we across a new video by Florida-based DragTimes that showcases their Ludicrous+ Model S P100D against a heavily modified, 1,000 horsepower turbocharged Toyota Supra. It comes as no surprise by now that even the world’s quickest supercars will fail when it comes to beating Tesla’s flagship Model S in a heads up drag race. But how does the Tesla fare against brute horsepower from a turbocharged beast equipped with racing slicks? Tesla’s technologically advanced electric drivetrain provides instantaneous response with unparalleled traction, as we recen…

As solar energy expands its presence in the United States, traditional utility companies are citing homeowner affordability and freeloading in their fight against the alternative option. According to the New York Times, solar installations declined 2 percent this year, the victim of saturated markets, financial issues at top manufacturers and a targeted lobbying effort from traditional power companies. In states like Indiana, where solar markets are just being established, lobbying efforts are making some lawmakers rethink just how beneficial solar energy is for their state’s overall power outlook. Lobbyists argue that because utility companies no longer ha…

Three launches, two recoveries, two coasts Just over two weeks ago, SpaceX accomplished its most impressive feat of cadence yet, both launching and recovering two separate Falcon 9s in approximately 49 hours. Two weeks later and two days after conducting a third launch in 13 days, residents of Los Angeles, California and Cape Canaveral, Florida both coincidentally reported that the two recovered boosters from the previous two launches had both gone horizontal and appeared ready for transport. After docking in Port Canaveral for the second time, Core 1029 was seen entering SpaceX’s LC-39A integration facilities on Friday. The booster on the West coast, 1036, was l…

Tesla CEO Elon Musk gave the world a glimpse of the first Model 3 production car over the weekend when he tweeted photos of the gorgeous electric sedan in black. One of the photos showed the Model 3 set in front of the large Tesla logo at the company’s Fremont, California factory and Supercharger site. A video would soon follow, posted by TehBestGamer505 to YouTube, showing Musk’s serial number 1 Model 3 getting positioned for its first official photo shoot. Finally, at the 1:32 minute marker of the video, the Model 3 driver can be seen pushing on the skinny front portion of the aerodynamic door handle to unlatch the door. The front door can be seen automaticall…
