Owning a Tesla has inspired me in many ways I never thought possible. Among these has been the inspiration to live a more eco-friendly life and the inspiration to go to a car show to share my love of the car. It has also inspired me to want to keep the car clean when practical. The problem is, I love the car too much to subject it to an automatic car wash and spare time is a resource I do not have an abundance of. Actually, who am I kidding? Even if I did have all the spare time in the world, washing cars is not a strength of mine and so my better half does the heavy lifting in that area. But again, who has the time to hand wash a car regularly? After using it on our …

Generous people live happier lives

Date: July 11, 2017 Source: University of Zurich Summary: Generosity makes people happier, even if they are only a little generous. People who act solely out of self-interest are less happy. Merely promising to be more generous is enough to trigger a change in our brains that makes us happier, neuroeconomists found in a recent study. So as most of you can see I added a new "Conversation". (real-time chat) with typing indicators and FINALLY some threaded replies. You should also be able to post photos and I'm not sure yet about videos or emojis anyways.... the discussion will show up in the "recirculation" on the right hand side... look for a small blue box with a + sign in it. Now we have our own little social media atop a forum. Enjoy!

Following an intriguing SpaceX testimony before Senate committees in Washington D.C., Musk took to Twitter to share some thoughts on the state of the launch marketplace and SpaceX’s place within it. It didn’t take long for him to relate a somewhat common critique of the United Launch Alliance, SpaceX’s only American competition. While there can be no doubt that the actual gritty details of the ELC contracts deal explicitly with such possible outcomes, the lack of transparency (be that as a result of publicly inaccessible contract details or highly obtuse and lingo-heavy contract language) ultimately frames ELC contracts and the vehemence with which ULA defend…

A Volkswagen executive made a big announcement at a German auto show: Volkswagen’s I.D. will be listed for $7,000 or $8,000 less than the Tesla Model 3. The I.D., which most likely won’t be released until at least 2020, is Volkswagen’s new EV concept, a direct competitor of the Tesla Model 3. The news was originally reported by a German automotive website Automobil Produktion, and is in line with Volkswagen’s previous statements about leapfrogging Tesla in the EV industry. Thomas Sedran, chief strategist for Volkswagen, made the announcement at the Automobil Forum in Munich and pegged the I.D. concept to be around $28,000. The Model 3 is slated to be released …

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk is slated to be a speaker at the closing session of the National Governors Association, which today hosted Vice President Mike Pence. Incoming NGA chair and Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval originally made the announcement about Saturday’s big speaker. “Elon Musk has a vision of a connected world, where innovation and technology take center stage,” Sandoval said in a statement. “In Nevada, we share this vision and are proud to be home to the Tesla Gigafactory. By 2018, the gigafactory will reach full capacity to produce more lithium ion batteries annually than were produced worldwide in 2013 supporting the further electrification and…

A new color option for Model 3 fans has been spotted: midnight grey. Brian Armer spotted the beautiful new Tesla vehicle on his way to work on Page Mill Road heading west near Tesla’s Palo Alto headquarters. “Initial thought was it’s smaller than I expected. BMW 3 series-ish, which I guess shouldn’t be a surprise, but I’m used to seeing so many Model S out here I’ve gotten used to full sedan size,” said Armer. It’s “probably because I was secretly hoping Model 3 was just a cheaper model S.” The new color sparked discussion on social media as well, as Tesla fans everywhere began discussing how this would influence their potential choice for which Mo…

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has unveiled his X.Com, a domain he says he bought for sentimental reasons. Holding Tesla, Tesla Energy, SpaceX, The Boring Company, OpenAI and Neuralink in one spot would be a good way for the companies to be managed under a centralized resource, and makes more sense than dropping at least seven figures for the sake of nostalgia. We’ll keep you updated on what the mysterious CEO has in store for his latest acquisition. The post Source

Tim Hughes, the senior VP of SpaceX’s global business and government affairs, testified earlier this morning before the Senate Subcommittee on Space, Science, and Technology and the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Technology. He put forth a strong argument that it would be in the best interests of both NASA and the United States to encourage commercial competition in pursuit of the exploration of deep space, and that this could be done with concrete goals like improved interplanetary communications, vertically landing spacecraft on the Moon, and sending substantial amounts of cargo to Mars. Before joining SpaceX, Hughes was the central actor responsible for draft…

Tesla one day could break barriers in Japan’s lagging solar market after being featured at a Japanese photovoltaic technology exhibition. The solar industry in Japan is regulated by the government, and utility companies are required to purchase renewable energy at fixed prices. The program was introduced in 2012 and demand from homes, factories and other buildings for the high-priced technology was low. The set prices have since been lowered by the government, and Tesla’s low-cost solar cells were a big draw at the technology exhibition. Source

Forums v. Social Media

There has been a lot of chatter about social media taking over forums traffic. Do you think that social media has now created "forums" within themselves? Will forums catch up to social media and start to improve their messaging and threaded replies? I am starting to see a convergence of the two that I sometimes want to call forums 2.0. Even this forum has much more capability that the forum 1.0 of even 10 years ago. Your thoughts?

Mind Your Manners is a 1950s film which teaches teenagers that good etiquette should be cultivated in order to get along with peers and impress authority figures. Bad manners can result in poor social etiquette. Various situations are dramatized in the film, including telephone etiquette, table manners, and how to shake hands. Making the argument that good behavior should eventually become totally natural and integrated into normal behavior, the film maintains that a real desire to get along with others will lead to good manners. Teaching teens good manners has never been easy. Dining etiquette in particular is important for making good first impressions. Mind Your Manner…

"Do's and don'ts film portraying ways in which office etiquette contributes to success in office relationships. Follows a young woman who is seeking her first secretarial job and shows examples of good (and hilariously bad) on-the-job behavior."
