0:17 / 01:49 Facebook already tailors its feed of news, sports scores and viral videos to show you what you want. Now Google is going to do it too. In a classic case of Silicon Valley "Anything you can do I can do better," the search giant on Wednesday updated its free Google app for iPhones and Android phones with a feed that uses artificial intelligence to show you things like news stories or movie trailers. Google is expanding the features in its search app's news feed. The feed itself isn't new -- Google introduced a basic version of it in December that shows you content you might be interested in, based on your Google searches. But on Wednesday, G…

Two Tesla Model 3s have been spotted and Tesla fans are roaring about two things: a spacious back seat and the 7th production vehicle off the line. Photos surfaced early Thursday morning on Reddit of the midnight silver Model 3 and one in blue, the same color as the one we first spotted in April. A photo of the vehicle’s temporary registration ID affixed to the lower right corner of the windshield reveals the VIN. Using the Model 3 VIN decoder, we see that 5YJ3E1EABHF000007 is Tesla’s 7th production car built in its Fremont factory. Rumors earlier this week were also sparked after a fan found a vehicle that could have been Elon Musk’s SN1 personal Model …

In response to journalist Jeff Foust of SpaceNews, Elon Musk replied on Twitter that SpaceX chose to cut development of propulsive landing for Dragon 2, and thus Red Dragon, in order to jump directly into propulsively landing “a vastly bigger ship” on Mars. SpaceX had previously delayed Red Dragon to 2020, which happens to be the same year a tentative schedule from the Guadalajara presentation pegged SpaceX’s first attempt at sending ITS to Mars. With approximately 30 months between now and 2020, there is almost no chance SpaceX could mature Raptor and develop an entirely new, massive launch vehicle and spacecraft in time for the 2020 launch window. Musk…

Rumors swirled early Tuesday morning after a series of Model 3 photos rumored to be Elon Musk’s personal first production “SN1” vehicle were captured at Tesla’s Palo Alto headquarters. US Air Force veteran Jeff Meinke, and Teslarati app user who goes by “Crush”, submitted detailed pictures of the Model 3 interior, including a close-up look at the never-before-seen mounting point for the center display. In speaking with Jeff and asking him why he didn’t take a photo of the Model 3 VIN, which would have surely confirmed whether the vehicle was Musk’s personal car with a 0001 trailing serial number, he tells us that it was just a matter of nerves and he wasn’t thinking a…

ISS R&D 2017 – Washington D.C. Answering questions from audience members, serial tech entrepreneur Elon Musk validated a large number of SpaceX rumors by confirming that the company’s Mars update at the International Astronautical Congress in late September would demonstrate a leaner architecture. Musk noted that the team has aimed partially at improving the economic viability of the vehicle, making it more applicable and useful for Earth orbit activities. This would involve downsizing the booster and spaceship, although Musk quickly added that it would be “a little bit smaller, but still big”. Video of Dragon 2 hover test from SpaceX Musk also confirmed rumors t…

Tesla has lost a top solar executive. Peter Rive, a SolarCity co-founder, will be leaving Tesla in search of other opportunities following the company’s purchase of the solar company. The departure comes just eight months after Tesla purchased SolarCity for $2.6 billion in a move that Elon Musk pegged as integrating solar operations to drive the Palo Alto-based vehicle company toward its goals for a sustainable future. His decision to leave was also motivated in part “to spend more time exploring the outdoors, more time with my family, and helping non-profit solar projects in the developing world.” With Rive gone, more questions surround Tesla’s solar roof develo…

After working on Tesla’s Autopilot team for 2.5 years, Andrew Kouri and Erik Reed decided to start their own self-driving, AI-based company rightfully named lvl5. Together with iRobot engineer George Tal, lvl5 aims to develop advanced vision software and HD maps for self-driving cars. Instead of turning to expensive LiDAR technology, lvl5’s computer vision analyzes its environment for stoplights, signs, potholes, and other objects. The system can be accurate to 10cm, a notable measure considering it’s derived from simple cameras and smartphones. In comparison, LiDAR systems can cost over $80,000 but are accurate to 3cm. So how will lvl5 map roadways in the worl…
