That's always the case. One side note. As I mentioned, if you weren't around that time and weren't aware of some circumstances, there were also imposters promoting and feeding such nonsense to the brotherhood. I believe the word gullible can rightfully be used in this instance.
If you do some additional research, you will find how a little church in New York started a "rumor" about the company logo of Procter and Gamble in the 80s. They linked that logo to devil worship. Soon after, some pretenders started floating the idea, it was coming from the Watchtower and Jehovah's Witnesses. That link started affecting the brotherhood. In some cases, JWs had stopped buying products from that company. That rumor spread until the Watchtower put a stop to that also.

    Oh boy. 1975 Again? 😕

All I would say about this is that there are some who did assume something entirely different about 1975, and the whole world ending thing for 1975 was drummed up through some people hearing differently. This is why even today, people are getting quite annoyed with the 1975 thing spoken by only one side who says they were right, effectively trying to defame JWs at the time. Technically, when it comes to these things some people (as seen here) bring up the topic of 1975 for one sole reason: to brand Jehovah's Witnesses as 'False Prophets' by their own definition, ignoring what is meant by the word 'prophet' and what was intended by WBTS publications, even during those days.
I can also say that the 1975 ordeal did not occur until the book, titled "Life everlasting in the Freedom of The Sons of God" was released; published in 1966.
I realize whenever the discussion of 1975 does come up, many things are taking out of context (even snippets), numerous times to make it seem that Jehovah's Witnesses at the time assume Armageddon would come in the year 1975, which is untrue because like I said, things taken out of context.
For example, often, if not most times, the quotes are never addressed by the one side party.
What I have listed here are several examples, but there are more, often times ignored, but they all speak in the same effect.
Now there were numerous people around that time, and there were arguments around that time and the people who knew about 1975 often times won out.

Further information I found, thanks to Quora:

But real talk though, I don't see why people try to spin it differently to make it seem that the wrong claim for 1975 to be true.
There are many people who are still alive who were around that day, in their experience who never assume what is being suggested here. And because of the wrong information being used to point fingers, it shows not only some here rely on a False Witness, but they are not being truthful in their hearts.
You can't really say you follow the Christ if you're one sided on something, namely shown to be associated with rumors and or speculation. To those people, you kinda know who you are.
Seeing the discussion on where it started, I already know the party who won that debate; and by winning is the fact that the other party cannot really bring up anything claiming Armageddon was said or written to come in 1975...
Jesus wants us to be truthful, one can't be if they're leaning on being misinformed heavily with a heart tainted by hate.

To the readers. What @Patiently waiting for Truth is selling to you here is fertilizer.
An account of a real Jehovah's Witness experience.
"I was baptized in 1966 so I was there in 1975 and it had absolutely no effect on me nor anyone in my very large family. The reason that it had no effect on 99.9% of Witnesses is because most were listening to what was really being said and not speculating. They were NOT saying that the end would come in 1975."

Yes! Let's remember where the speculation arose from? Foolish Witnesses, NOT the Watchtower or its GB.

You're so funny. So don’t you see that you have stuck to an intellectual trap and a mistake in the logic found in the claims I wrote, on purpose. Because I have a "motive" :)).

    Truthers do not lie.
    Christians do not lie.
    All Truthers are Christians.
    All Christians are Truthers.
What is wrong with these claims? It does not include all other groups of people. So what was written is not true. Every man, religious or atheist or agnostic or whatever, is capable of telling the truth and is capable of lying and is capable of speaking half-truths and speaking half-lies.

Let's remember, again,  where and from whom the "speculations" arose? Within WT organizations by the JW members* themselves.

Falsehood and deception?   If you indeed "call it out", you would question just why 1975 was a topic among the leadership of the Watchtower, since false prophets are described in Deut 18:20-22,  labeling the Wt's leaders as such, when all of the Armageddon dates failed.  You would question their continuous change in doctrine, when Jesus told his disciples to "produce fruit that would last". (John 15:16)  You would question why they push men's doctrine that contradicts the word of God, since Jesus blamed the Pharisees for teaching doctrine of men. (Mark 7:7)
Instead, you take a topic and narrow down your focus onto one thing, letters of words that to you "prove" 1975 is...what, NOT a lie, NOT a false prediction?  Then, you call exjws, the liars because they know how the organization works.  You disregard the point that Watchtower danced around the topic every way they wanted, successfully misleading thousands to believe them - that Armageddon would arrive in 1975.  And then, when it didn't happen, the members receive the blame for the leadership's lies.
That - the fact that the leaders are false prophets, and not following the teachings of Jesus Christ, is what you could "call out"; but instead, you seem to defend the leaders and their lies.   What sort of "Truther" Preacher are you?
Here is a backward glance to 1975, which targets the year:
"In modern times such eagerness, commendable in itself, has led to attempts at setting dates for the desired liberation from the suffering and troubles that are the lot of persons throughout the earth. With the appearance of the book Life Everlasting-in Freedom of the Sons of God, and its comments as to how appropriate it would be for the millennial reign of Christ to parallel the seventh millennium of man's existence, considerable expectation was aroused regarding the year 1975. There were statements made then, and thereafter, stressing that this was only a possibility. Unfortunately, however, along with such cautionary information, there were other statements published that implied that such realization of hopes by that year was more of a probability than a mere possibility . It is to be regretted that these latter statements apparently overshadowed the cautionary ones and contributed to a buildup of the expectation already initiated.  Wt 3/15/1980

Did they stress it as "only a possibility" one hundred percent of the time?  No.  They bolstered their lie, and then they downplayed their lie.   As I said, they danced around, back and forth:
"Yes, the end of this system is so very near! Is that not reason to increase our activity?...Reports are heard of brothers selling their homes and property and planning to finish out the rest of their days in this old system in the pioneer service. Certainly this is a fine way to spend the short time remaining before the wicked world's end." (km 5/1974, p. 3)
'It also tells us that this millennium must be preceded immediately by the most destructive war in all human history. We can now see the political rulers... being gathered... for that War of all wars....' (Wt 7/1/1974)
    Post 1975 -
"It may be that some who have been serving God have planned their lives according to a mistaken view of just what was to happen on a certain date or in a certain year. They may have, for this reason, put off or neglected things that they otherwise would have cared for. But they have missed the point of the Bibles warnings concerning the end of this system of things, thinking that Bible chronology reveals the specific date." Wt 7/15/1976
Oh!  Now they are chastised for neglecting their homes and property that they were commended for selling, in order to pioneer.
Who "missed the point"?  Who had the "mistaken view"?  Well, who "published" the articles?  Who approved the articles?
This religion is an organization built on lies from the beginning.  It's leaders are false prophets, according to the word of God.  If one looked into their Insight book under "prophets" it clearly proves that Wt  leaders are false prophets. So, I will continue to call them out for it, just as you are trying so hard to call me out as a liar.
You, spin your wheels trying to take down people who realize this - people who lived it, lived the lie of 1975 and all the other failed dates, as well as their continuous need to change their "understanding".  Their biggest lie?   Hmmm.  1914
"Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him: We ask you, brothers and sisters, 2 not to be easily upset or troubled, either by a prophecy or by a message or by a letter supposedly from us, alleging that the day of the Lord has come. 3 Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way. For that day will not come unless the apostasy[c] comes first and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. 4 He opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he sits[e] in God’s temple, proclaiming that he himself is God."  2 Thess 2:1-4

Tell him to take it up with Jesus. That’s the one he seems to have a beef with:
“Jesus said: “Truly I say to you, no one has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for my sake and for the sake of the good news  who will not get 100 times more now in this period of time—houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and fields, with persecutions—and in the coming system of things, everlasting life. “ (Mark 10:29-30)

Oh do be quiet SM. (That was being polite)  Show me exactly where I said the above about JWs. We all know it was promoted amongst JWs from the mid 1960's. Someone even showed a W/t magazine from around '67 which wrote about being in the 'last part of the last day', and then there was some mention of a JW Elder saying from the platform "Stay alive 'till 75".
I have a close relative who is a JW Elder and he knows that JWs WERE selling their houses and leaving their jobs, to preach full time. Just because the Leaders didn't print it in the Watchtower does not mean that they were not promoting it in other ways. But you, like all others, only believe what you want to believe, because it fits your agenda.
And what 'community' exactly do you say I belong to ?
Dimmy has one thing right. There is NO spirituality here.

Dmitar got a reaction from Patiently waiting for Truth in Are JWs in America back on the 'door to door' work now ?
No, since there are other avenues for preaching. Therefore, householders are NOT denied that spiritual work.
Actually, the only one playing games is you by misrepresenting the facts. The facts are, the preaching work continues regardless how you want to manipulate the Watchtower literature.
The question a visitor should ask, can a manipulator of Watchtower literature and facts be trusted? That is a burden that should way heavily on former Jehovah's Witnesses. Finding different excuses to criticize the Watchtower. Remember, Just like Jesus didn't allow such criticism sway his conviction, neither does the Watchtower.
JWs are not pushing away people from learning about God and Christ, former Jehovah's Witnesses are doing that. This is why I express it too, @Witness since she believes she still holds the foundation of Christianity within. She is wrong!
A Christian with cracks on that foundation is no Christian.
    "1 Co 11:17-22
For, adds he, there must be heresies also; not only quarrels, but factions, and perhaps such corrupt opinions as strike at the foundation of Christianity, and all sound religion. Note, No marvel there should be breaches of Christian love in the churches, when such offences will come as shall make shipwreck of faith and a good conscience."
You only need to look deep into this website, with TWO forums in particular. JW closed forum, and JW open forum. They both defile the teachings of Christ. What good does it do to have your outer garments cleansed when your heart and mind are spoiled. It makes no sense to the readers, nor does it promote trust in God, when they themselves fail to do so.
Here, Jehovah's Witnesses and former Jehovah’s Witnesses are equally guilty. In any case, former Jehovah's Witnesses plant themselves as "light" after darkness. You only need to see there is NO light resonating to know that the person is an apostate. People can tell by their manipulation and deception. Especially those that are so vested in disparaging their former institution. Even those that say they are active members resonate no substance equal to former members.
So, apostates have a tail, and they cannot hide from God, just like Adam and Eve couldn't.

There are several local churches that go around placing flyers on doors or vehicles to encourage people to attend church. That has gone for decades in the USA. My local church did that for years until it closed its doors. But at some point, the lack of trust will become an issue with all Christian denominations. People won't know who is a real minister or a fake one. That has already begun with some unscrupulous people pretending to be JWs.

Sure, as long as you know it's your madness, and not the truth within your madness.
What is shows, there was ignorance perpetrated by a falsehood that was generated in part by imposters that the Watchtower had to finally take action. It has nothing to do with your kind of nonsense.
No shifting to those that understood. Now, to the uneducated, they can call it anything they like.
How can I skip something if I posted the entire article. What you highlighted is nothing more of you not wanting to fully understand.
If you don't get the representation of what this "generation" means and everyone here has not explained it to you, since they don't understand it either, what makes you think, you have made a point?
The blind cannot lead the blind to God's truth.
Once again, this is the ignorance here of not understanding what generation really means. Foolishness perpetrated by foolish people.
You're incorrect. I don't need to defend 1975 to the foolish. I just need to show the reader how foolish the attempt is to establish a false narrative coming from present and former Jehovah's Witnesses.
Until you get a clue on what the Watchtower was trying to convey, you will still be ignorance. Remember, no one here to what I've read hasn't a clue either, so I will not engage in another obtuse argument about that.

You made pure repetition from WT magazines. Nothing unknown to me.
Obviously you skipped some WTJWorg articles. AGAIN! :))) Here are quotes just from one WT study magazine. For "stellar mind" would be enough.
Especially since the spiritually invigorating year 1919, the anointed remnant of Christ’s brothers fearlessly presented God’s judgments, powerful messages of calamity, to Christendom. ..............
Over the last seven decades, in conjunction with proclaiming the glorious hope of Jehovah’s incoming Kingdom, Jehovah’s Witnesses have spread around the world a veritable flood of denunciation and judgment...............
Have Jehovah’s Witnesses toned down God’s judgment? True, we live in an age when criticizing another religion is not considered the thing to do. Nevertheless, Jehovah’s Witnesses’ publications are spelling out the same message of judgment for Christendom as always..................
Therefore, Jehovah’s Witnesses will continue to visit the people of the nations with a message that stings the majority as an unpopular judgment but is happifying good news for a minority—the good news of God’s Kingdom
